I still think Rodrigo Guirao Diaz has the right face for Matthew. He just needs to be 5 years older!Look up 'Rodrigo Guirao Diaz 2012' on google

OK. I could go with him. He's got the right look. :-)
How about Tom Ward from Silent Witness..old enough, rides a horse, fences, looks right, and he is English
Anne wrote: "I think a lot of people forget that Matthew is French!"Gaspard Ulliel < I vote him... He is french & sexy !
Stephanie wrote: "Yeah, I agree as well, Richard Armitage does look just like how I pictured Matthew too. Funny. Never heard of the actor though, is he good?"Wait till The Hobbit movies come out he is in those as Thorin Oakenshield I think...he is great
GET MI-5 on DVD...fantastic show and he is eventually in it..I first saw him in Robin Hood and became a big fan! MI-5 and Robin Hood are BBC shows....I have now watched everything he has been in including Monet. There is another guy in MI-5 that might be good as the brother. I need to look him up.

It's gotta be someone that matches the description in the book. Black hair, solid build, muscular and a little on the larger size and maybe a classic looking.
I just hope they don't use some ditzy blonde girl to play Diana. She has to be smart, pretty and built like an athlete. Not some anorexic model.
I love Joe Manganiello but I feel like he's too rugged looking. I agree that Fassbender should play Matthew. He looks more clean-cut and has a more intense presence. Henry Cavill is too young and Jim Caviezel is too old. I also agree that Diane should be played by an unknown.
Diana Bishop = Brit Marling. Check Sept 2012 InStyle spread, and the preview for "Sound of My Voice." Something about her strength and vulnerability says Diana to me. And she is American, and age-appropriate.
My Matthew vote is for Christian Bale. But I think he is perfect for every male role, so I might be biased. Michael Fassbender would be my unbiased vote.
Matthew is over six feet. In his thirties. Black hair. Green eyes [but I'll take blue]. Jim Caviezel was a hunk in his prime and I absolutely could see him in this role BUT, I think he has past his prime for this role. When he did "Count of Monte Cristo" he absolutely was the right age, height, and rakish demeanor then. He was brutally, achingly handsome and seductive in that movie. That is the Matthew we are looking for now. None of the aforementioned suggestions has hit the mark.

That's why I think the movie should be made in 3d animation like Avatar. That's the only way the 'real' Matthew can be captured.
Manuela wrote: "How about Ian Somerhalder? :) He plays wonderfully as Damon in TVD...So I think he would be fitting..."Ian Somerhalder would be an excellent choice :)
Just googled Ian Somerhalder..looks to sweet....remember everyone the budget for this movie might not be big so you can forget the big name stars....
Henry Cavill for Matthew. Who I picture as late 20's-early 30's and a bit rugged but distinguished. I believe he was turned fairly young. Also, the actor should be dark haired, blue eyed. And european/british. I can't see an American actor pulling this off.http://images2.fanpop.com/images/phot...
I have to say I think Gwyneth would kill the film. So I vote heavily no to her. Plus I picture Diana a bit more delicate with strawberry blonde hair.
I can get behind the Jessica Chastain idea. She's amazing. And has just the right delicacy, and fire to make it work.
I adore Jessica Chastain's work, and I agree she is gorgeous. But my mind's eye has someone a bit less obviously beautiful. A little more eccentric, especially remembering her trying to tame her hair and jump into old, worn leggings. And yet, the actress needs to be able to pull off an Elizabethan look as well. My vote still goes Brit Marling. Does anyone remember the end of Pride and Prejudice (the newer film adaptations) when Mr. Darcy comes striding through the field at sunrise with his shirt open and cloak billowing behind? Matthew McFayden has a little Clermont in him as well. (Just avoid thinking "Death at a Funeral"....)
..still love Richard Armitage....as much as I love Matthew McFayden...Mi-5..I can't see him in this movie. I do love his wife if she can do a good American accent
For whatever reason I kept picturing Colin Farrell as Matthew the whole way through. He cleans up well, that's for sure.. ;)
OMg i lovedddddd these books!!!! I am thinking maybe josh dumel (has to learn french accent) or Gilles Marini, or Dan Cortese to play Matthew one of these guys would pop into mind.. and saw nicole kidman as diana
Matthew doesn't have a strong french accent and has huge english influence. So the actor doesn't need to be french. Nicole Kidman is too tall, too old and too slim. Diana has an athletic physique. She can't have too much of a slender frame.
I think that Rob James-Collier would make an excellent Matthew de Clairmont. He has the intelligent looks, hauteur, and charisma that is evident in the vampire.
man, i do love trying to cast people into roles for stories i LOVE LOVE LOVE! i personally had a hard time thinking of a current actor to imagine playing Matthew while i was reading the books. i agree that Michael Fassbender would be a wonderful choice, but seeing Giles Marini (all French and stuff) would send me reeling in bliss. Giles is so amazingly delicious. i am NOT saying anything against other choices being unattractive either. i do have to take exception to the suggestions for actors who are really young (in their 20's) and those who have already played or are currently playing roles of vampires. really? i don't see an actor like that taking on yet another vampire role to be good for either the role of Matthew or the actor's career (everyone will then think of him as 'that vampire actor guy' and nothing else).
as for Diana, lots of the suggestions were for women who are well into their 40's (Diana is in her early-mid 30's people). looking up the suggestion of Brit Marling was SPOT ON for how i imagined her.
i'll try not to get too hung up on who i think should play specific roles though. when i do, i am horribly disappointed in the choices the actual casting agents make. (like the guy they chose to play Finnick Odair. pretty sure he's a great guy and good actor, but NOTHING like i imagined him to be. :-(
