Chris Stanley Richard Armitage - perfect for it

JAnet again...my perfect actor for this part!

Oh, and he was kind of a dick to Demi Moore in 'G.I. Jane,' too.

Kathleen Heather wrote: "For some reason Matthew McConaughey springs to mind for the role of matthew, although I'm unsure whether he would be able to do the voice"

Too much twinkle in his eyes. Face too young. Need someone a bit more weathered (considering he's over 1500 yrs old.)

message 155: by Tiger (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tiger I agree that Matthew McConaughey has too much twinkle in his eye. He's more suited to the daemons. And I think Jim Caviezel is more suited to one of the evil witches or vampires. There's something about his mouth that makes him look sly like a fox.

Tiger pretty eyes, but I still feel they're sly. Sorry Jim.

Dlnurmi So far like the suggestions of: Henry Cavill or Richard Armitage. I love ALex O'Loughlin, but he's probably busy with Hawaii Five-O and rehab. Besides, he's played a vampire on TV before - anyone remember Moonlight??

Michelle Tiger wrote: "I agree that Matthew McConaughey has too much twinkle in his eye. He's more suited to the daemons. And I think Jim Caviezel is more suited to one of the evil witches or vampires. There's somethi..."

I agree. I think he'd maybe be good for the main witch guy that's after Diana...his name escapes me at the moment...the one that her father knew and hated.

message 160: by Ashley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ashley Gilles Marini, Gilles Marini, Gilles Marini!!!!

Hot as hell, actually French, correct age...he's perfect.

message 161: by JAnet (new) - rated it 5 stars

JAnet No complaint with Gilles Marini....so good in Brothers snd Sisters.....but have only seen him in that role....Richard Armitage in Robin Hood, Monet, Mi-5...the BEST!

message 162: by Angela (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angela I pictured Christian Bale the whole time I was reading the book. Matthew McConneghy would be a better Marcus. I think he was described as having a surfer look. I would love to see Natalie Portman as Diana, Charlize Theron as Ysabeau, Julianne Moore as Sarah, and Stockard Channing as Em.

message 163: by Tiger (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tiger I don't picture the chemistry between Julianne Moore and Stockard Channing, but I think the latter is a brilliant idea. I'm not as enthusiastic about Christian Bale. I still think Matthew should be a daemon. The right character for him may show up in the next book. Charlize Theron I think is too old to be Ysabeau. She's described as looking younger than Matthew, obviously younger when she was made a vampire. I'm reading the book (again) right now, and I'm picturing Vanessa Paradis as Ysabeau. She's also got the tiny build that Ysabeau is supposed to have.
Natalie Portman works for me, though she doesn't set me on fire like the idea of Stockard Channing does. I keep picturing Diane Lane, though I think she's too old for the part.

message 164: by Karen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Karen Hagerman Moseley Definitely Richard Armitage...he has the eyes, the simmer, the body. Yep.

message 165: by Stacey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stacey Henry Cavill

message 170: by Tiger (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tiger I've not heard a thing, except for what's on the last page of the first book . . . and I can't wait to 'meet' Shakespeare and Marlowe!

Lynne Thanks for telling me. I went back and took "the" out of the title.Hadn't noticed that I had put it in.

message 173: by Jon (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jon You can get a extended first chapter of Shadows through ibooks as a preview.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the guy I have always imagined as Matthew, Diana I have pictured as Jessica Biel. Purely because of her physicality.

message 174: by Tiger (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tiger Bethany wrote: "i vaguely recall Mathew's brother...i swear he was ginger? And rather burly and broad, but I'm not entirely sure, its been a few months since i finished the book :P all i know is that i couldn't pi..."

he's large like Matthew, but has copper colored hair. I just finished re-reading Discovery, and it occurs to me we'll have plenty of opportunity to find 'homes' for our favorite actors. Because Matthew & Diana are going back in time, we'll likely have the opportunity to meet Philippe, Matthew's father. And we might get to know Baldwin a little better. AND, Matthew has two other brothers we've not met. And then there is Miriam's husband who was Matthew's best friend until WWII.
I lOVE the idea of Benedict Cumberbatch in some role. I agree that he's not burly enough to be Matthew, but there's got to be a role for him. Maybe he could be Kit Marlowe!

message 176: by JAnet (new) - rated it 5 stars

JAnet He's my choice....and quite a few others....

message 177: by Lori (last edited Jul 08, 2012 01:39PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lori Todd I wasn't familiar with most of the suggestions to play Matthew but looked some of them up and can definitely see them as possibilities. Jonathan Rhys Myers definitely comes to mind for me. If you've seen him play King Henry VIII in The Tudors series you know he has the brooding, quick-switch mood change thing going. You can also see his natural command of power and leadership in that role. And he was downright scary at times. And he's the right age.

message 178: by JAnet (new) - rated it 5 stars

JAnet he's good too ..loved him in The Tudors..but still Richard Armitage for me...

message 179: by J (new) - rated it 5 stars

J Benedict Cumberbatch has always been "Matthew" to me. Although Tom Hardy would do nicely.

message 180: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy I always picture Goran Visnjic (ER) when I read and envision Matthew. :)

I completely understand that! I typically buy from stores like Target or Walmart. They put them slightly more on sale than stores like Barnes and Noble. But they still are a little too expensive for my blood.

Yes, I discovered this when I bought
Fifty Shades of Grey with a coupon at Barnes and Noble, only to discover it was cheaper at Target without a coupon.

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook You are all more patient than me ... It will be close to a year before SON come out in paperback. I preordered the kindle edition and it was on my kindle when got up this morning

Haha! Aren't E-readers great in that regard?! I got out of work at midnight last night and was downloading it when I got home. Glad to see I wasn't the only one! I didn't pre-order it though. I bought Discovery before I had my Noook and was on the fence on if I wanted the Hardback of SON. (Bc I am nerd like that. I wanted to match) But once I saw Deborah tweet about it my mind was made up and I couldn't wait any longer. So I downloaded it and put my other books on hold.

How are you liking it so far?

Wondering did anyone else get an e-mail to this effect about the book?
