I want to read Flowers for Algernon! haha! I can't find cheap copies kasi. Actually, I've read one of Daniel Keyes book
kaya it made me want to read Flowers for Algernon :)
Emir wrote: Flip, I assume you've read both the short story and the novel. Mas gusto mo ba yung maikling kuwento o yung nobela, bakit?"Emir, kasi mas maiksi. :)

I'm planning to finish some series and trilogies on my TBR this week. I'll probably start with
seriesthen
seriesand lastly
series.Hopefully I'll finish them this summer. :)
Since I can't decide which books i should read for the next three weeks, i ask Randomizer to help me. LOLIn priority:
1. A Monster Calls > reco by Tina
2. Beautiful Chaos
3. The Reapers are the Angels
4. Paper Towns > for Aaron :)
5. Ashfall
6. The Monstrumologist > reco by Tina
7. The Maze Runner
8. Last Sacrifice
9. Intangible
10. The Immortal Rules
I think i can follow this one (OC-OC ako sa mga list eh). nyahaha AJA!
Beautiful Chaos, book three of Creatures and Darkness? Didn't like much the first two. Slow paced. Where did you get your Ashfall?
@Rollie: You can download it online. If you want, I'll give you a copy. Baka si Maria, she got it from Netgalley.
Kwesi: Thanks but since there aren't printed copies available yet in bookstores, might prioritize first the ones I have. Or next time if I get a kindle. :)
gonna read
next.gonna reread
and
before I read
and
cannot read YA for sometime coz I broke my NOOK T___T
Rollie, i got it nga from NG pero i saw it once sa NBS. :)LS: sure! let me set the date, is that ok? dami ko pa currently reading eh. :)
LOL
ung buong hannibal series...THe last watch by Sergei Lukyanenko..
Reading Lolita in Tehran..
Basides... I also have almost 30 ebooks I got free from Goodreads authors na anging friends ko... Guys I highly encourage you to make friends with Goodreads authors, kahit ung international... Wag kaung mahiya mababait sila,, I think I have almost 70 plus author friends na lahat mababait tapos minsan pag sinabi mong interested ka mabasa sila, bbigyan ka ng free copy ng isang book nila or minsan, in my case, lahat ng books hahaha =P
May ilan lang akong friends. Ayaw ko yatang marami. Kasi di pa sila tested. Kaya binabasa ko ang 1001, 501, Pulitzer, Nobel, Booker, Oprah, Time 100, Newsweek 100, Modern Library, etc. Kasi ayoko ng hit/miss approach. Life is too short to spend with authors and books na di tested. Of course, the new GR authors would appreciate you spending time with their works. May nago-offer talaga, more often than not, I refuse. Sabi ko marami akong tbr. 2,000 books will last me 8 more years to finish.

I can just wikipedia their summary... so I concentrate on discovering new talent =P malay mo, mas maganda pa... i discovered a lot of really good but relatively unknown writers.. kaloka ang mga plot at stories sobrang tindi.
grabeh ang creativity ng mga weird and bizarre authors ngaun... so i did add almost 50 plus of them... mahirap kasi wala taung access ng books nila dito sa philippines kaya di natin maapreciate... most are indie and self-published like me pero wag ka, super ganda ng concepts and ideas nila!
i think they are the future of mainstream... nafefeel ko na eto.. yung mga weird books pumapasok na rin sa popular genres... the weirder sometimes, the more na nananalo ng award... namamatay na yung mga classic-style writing at yung mga super gasgas na na plots... ngaun, mukhang the more weird your plot is, the more interesting ung books.
just to name some:
a haunted vagina which is the gateway to the underworld..
people eating babies as if they're nothing...
hermaphrodite characters..
alternate worlds na super grabe pa sa lord of the rings..
post-modern novels na OH mY GOd ang mga concepts ( i love this genre so much) talo pa sina John Fowles, Julian Barnes, Jeanette Winterson and others...
besides, natutuwa ako pag nadiscover ko na yung favorite writers ko in real life nandito sa goodreads so add agad!
Rollie: if you like Game of Thrones with magics and assassins minus the heavy HEAVY details you will love it. MY Tamayoshi (name of my nook)!!
Ayaw ko kasing mag-branch out. Yong "Story of the Eye" ni Bataille, 1001 yan. What that means is may mga ganyan na sa 1001 na hindi kailan man mapupunta sa Pulitzer or Booker kasi goody-goody ang mga nananalo dyan eh.
Ignore that last sentence, I was just trying to catch Angus' attention hahahaha. "The Sense of an Ending" is edgy. Not goody-goody at all.
John, I prefer a novel with nothing extraordinary in it and yet is very capable of stirring my emotions. Only sheer talent can make something so trivial become so monumental. One has to give credit for that. An example (since you mentioned him) is Julian Barnes's The Sense of an Ending. Short, plotless, and yet, a winner in every sense of the word.
Angus wrote: "John, I prefer a novel with nothing extraordinary in it and yet is very capable of stirring my emotions. Only sheer talent can make something so trivial become so monumental. Iba naman kasi si Julian... I love his Flaubert's Parrot and Talking It Over and I am obsessed with collecting all his works.. Ang hirap hanapin waaaahhh.. Pero post-modern naman kasi siya which is kinda popular naman.. not that weird pero cool pa rin =P ngaun lang super focused lang ako na ipromote ang weirdness =P
Rollie wrote: "Maria: Weh?"dude, truth ang sinasabi ko. ;P
Chami, emotions lang ba tlg ang nass-stir sayo?!!! LOL
John, i don't usually add authors as friends, kasi more often than not, they offer me their recent books for review. pag hnd nila nagustuhan ang review ko, sumasama lang damdamin nila, kaya wag na lang.
Rollie wrote: "Maria: What branch?"(biglang may amnesia)
ano nga ulit ung book na pinag-uusapan naten? LOL
i can't remember. baka nga sa FB ko pa nakita kz nung naka-display sya, naisip ko na nasa wish list mo un.

Tricia wrote: "@Kwesi: natawa ako. I bought an omnibus, but 1st book lang binasa ko. Nakakatamad eh."Huwag pilitin kung boring. Move on to the next book :)
@Tricia: Next time, I suggest buying one book at a time. It's not worth reading an Omnibus copy because of it's size and consider your doubt of liking the book. For me, okay lang, since I bought it in Booksale last five years. Five years na and still in my TBR! Omnibus are for collection purpose only lang talaga.@Charles: I'm doing that in the past and change my habit. I have to finish it no matter what happens. Haha. Trying hard much!
