When magic and mystery become a part of adult memory, and children only know the hushed whispers in dark corners, people expect trouble at every turn.
For Gin, her safety relies on those dark corners and the danger of the grimy British streets. Magic and fantasy are a long buried dream; until she meets the candle-maker. Thrust into his secretive world with just a sullen, shadowy guide for company, Gin clings to the edges until the heavily guarded line between life and fantasy blurs.
As she chases her inevitable future to escape the echo of what lies behind, the world and all she knew of it becomes one final step into the unknown.

Hey everyone,
Here's my new book of short stories. A quick read with three YA/NA themed stories that people are loving so far. If you're interested I'm selling exclusive signed copies with a handwritten commentary click the link below. My book is available through other retailers listed below.
Three charming tales of that never ending roller coaster called life, each one sure to pack a sweet punch of candy for the heart. One story involves a girl and a mystery box with handwritten song lyrics. The second follows a guy on the road with memories of the girl that got away, and finally a teen girl who can actually speak to the source of her angst…her heart.
Audio Frequency
Geraldine works the counter at Audio Frequency, a small music store that was once the hub of the local music scene. The best part of her day is a little brown box that is delivered to the store with song lyrics written inside, a playful guessing game between a mystery guy who seems to totally get her. Geraldine finds she is ready to make big changes at Audio Frequency and thankfully her best friend Sam just scored her a ticket to the biggest music benefit in town. Geraldine may get everything she wants when she discovers that her mystery guy may be at the event.
A sweet little story about friendship, expectations, and the leaps that must be made to take the love you want.
Legal U Turn
Gwen and Dean share an awkward drive home for their first college break because of convenience. But with hate comes a confiding friendship that may mean more to Dean. After his true feelings slip during a trip home, his friendship with Gwen ends abruptly and they don’t speak or see each other again.
Two years later Dean finds himself driving the same route he and Gwen used to take home years ago and it’s accompanied with the best memories of Gwen. A journey filled with a fun combo of memorable road trips and not so great first impressions causes Dean to wonder, is there a possibility of rekindling one of his greatest friendships?
Heart Set on You
A funny thing happened to Ellie when she woke after her heart transplant. Her donor didn’t exactly die. Instead he stayed behind to both of their confusion and can only be seen by Ellie. Ellie is unable to make friends at school and her only confidant is her heart donor, who she coincidentally nicknames Heart. After thinking she would always be socially challenged, she comes across someone who could change everything. Can this new someone help free Ellie and Heart from their bond? Or will new feelings arise that neither of them expected?
A unique story that reveals how friends can compliment and challenge each other told with fun sarcastic humor and heart.

''Just Married, Please Excuse'' is the story about a young mis-matched couple as they journey into marriage.

''Sorting Out Sid'' is about a man who happens to be the master of denial, and is pretending that his life ISN'T Falling apart!
Would love to know how they sound to you.

Frank Flutie is a lexicographer who has waged war on the "perils of adultolescence" by leaving a high-paying job as a copywriter for an advertising company called The Banker and taking a low-paying job in a bookstore instead, ostensibly so he can write the first ever all sexual dictionary.
The "war" (and his dictionary), however, aren't going particularly well and, under the stress of his "self-imposed exile" from affluence, Frank has become petty and fatalistic -- "a shit hoarder whose dictionary would be better utilized as a flyswatter, a doorstop, or a paperweight".
Always broke, but too proud to accept charity, he rarely sees his few friends and cannot get the virginal Marlene in bed because (or so he believes), "If you got no dough, no woman will love you."
On the mantle in Frank's shabby apartment is a sickly but unkillable pet sea lamprey -- a jawless fish he abhors as the banner of the sort of "clockwork universe" he is fleeing from in his downward spiral.
In the course of his misadventures, we become grindingly aware that his radical solution to the problem of the money-world is no solution at all -- that in his desperate reaction against a monstrous system, he has become something of a monster himself.
"The Dude Who Did Dictionaries" is a behemoth valentine to Boston and a gritty, sprawling, depiction of today's recession-inflicted state of affairs.

Divorced thirty-something Claire doesn’t know who’s in her dating pool—but she’s doing her best to avoid shark infested waters. Leaving her clueless and insensitive husband behind was a smart move after losing her fertility, but now she’s riding the wave of flying toupees, strange men in leather thongs and drunken nights in painfully impractical shoes. Claire desperately wanted to be a mother, but now she’ll settle for one middle aged man worthy of a second date.
After a long drought, men are flooding her shores and she’s drowning in choices. There’s Justin, the 25-year-old IT boy-genius with the GQ looks and cougar fetish, who won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. A woman would have to be a blind, lesbian nun not to fall for him, but he reminds Claire of her wasted youth. And then the charming but mysterious Dr. Nathan appears, but he’s cheating on her with his medical mistress—a demanding cardiology practice.
To further rock her boat, Claire’s ‘stable’ career in publishing has been tossed about by her floundering company’s launch of a new line of trendy, salacious books. Cookbooks aren’t selling these days, but erotica is flying off the shelves—and challenging Claire’s attitude about sex, work . . . and her tempestuous new life.
When her best friend convinces her to buddy up to the aspiring writer who just moved in across the street, Claire rejects the idea—he has already caught her in more than one embarrassing and scantily clad situation. Giving in to her friend’s nudging, she tries to ignore the details she discovers about him, including his hard rock night gig and his mesmerizing blue eyes, in the hopes his literary talents can pull her publishing house up from the bottom of the ocean.
Claire’s dilemma begs the question: Are there NO men or TOO MANY?

Approximately 10 years ago, my mother and best friend, JoAnn, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After wallowing in self-pity for a minute, I opted to alter my perspective, focus on the positives in her life and stop making everything about me. I’m hopeful that by offering the truth about my experiences, as well as suggestions on how to exercise humor and grace, it helps those of you encountering a similar situation to better cope with your loved one’s behavioral changes.
Excerpt: Diagnosis: Alzheimer’s disease. Now what?
Each and every day millions of individuals are facing this exact situation and have no idea what to do. Their easiest course of action is to scour the Internet in search of information, when all they really want is to hear from someone who’s actually been through it. I understand - I’ve been there. Despite my best efforts to deal with everything I made plenty of mistakes, the largest of which, was feeling sorry for myself. My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s; it wasn’t about me. I decided to approach the situation from a very different perspective and because of that newfound positivity, I became a much more effective advocate for her.
Perspective is everything and altering mine was just what the doctor ordered.

Snow Tales and Powder Trails, by Steve Baldwin
Thanks for this opportunity :)
Available as a paperback and an e-book, "Snow Tales and Powder Trails" is a collection of short stories and photographs, telling of a lifetime journey through snowy lands and mountains, using skis as a mode of transport and artistic medium.
The experiences of the author come to life on the page, mirrored by images of stunning snow-covered peaks and landscapes. Using vast untracked snowfields as a blank canvas, the author draws line after line with his skis, etching his signature temporarily into the earth's surface, only for the next snowstorm to come in and cover any trace of human existence.
The book explores some of the different aspects of skiing, mostly in deep fresh powder, and illustrates the adventures and elation that the mountains in winter can offer.

My debut novella, The Masks of Monsters, is about a young Darius Burke of Farnham and an ancient vampire named Aeron. They both struggle to come to terms with the worlds they left behind. It is about humanity struggling with its monstrosity, an exaggeration of what many people face within themselves.

Sixteen-year old Toby was trained by a family of hunters to kill shape-shifters — but he has a unique weapon in his arsenal. With a touch of his hand, Toby can lift the magical protection shape-shifters use to disguise themselves as human. It’s an unusual skill for a hunter, and he prefers to kill monsters the old-fashioned way: with a blade.
Because of his special skill, Toby suspects he may be a monster himself. His suspicions deepen when William, a jackal-headed shape-shifter, saves him from an ambush where Toby’s the only survivor. And Toby doubts William helped him for purely altruistic reasons. With his list of allies running thin, Toby must reconcile his hatred of shifters and the damning truth that one saved his life. It’ll take both of them to track down the monster who ordered the ambush.
And Toby needs his unlikely ally because he has a vicious enemy — the infamous Circe, who has a vendetta to settle against the hunters. Toby has to unravel the mystery of his dual nature. And he has to do it on the run — before Circe finds him and twists him to her own ends.

Readers have suggested this is a grandmother/granddaughter read, with both generations learning about the other's social media (think text messaging vs pulling the telephone into a closet so Mother won't hear, but you have to leave the door open for the line that connects the whole thing to the wall.

Here's the blurb:
Emerging from the collapse of the Great Mound Centers and the crumbling of old alliances, The People of One Fire craft a new confederacy beneath the encroaching shadows of the British, Spanish, and French empires. For thousands of years, the Keepers of the Adjik Hata have preserved the White Path of the covenant with Ofvngv. In this turbulent time of conflict and change, the Spanish attempt to forcibly convert the Adjik Hata. Mvhvlv, the last Keeper, dispatches his tvbalv, Little Bird, with a secret message to Emperor Brim and entrusts to his niece, Morning Light, a strand of medicine beads containing the ancient lore of the Adjik Hata.
As her uncle perishes, Morning Light flees the ruin of a burning chapel with the beads to seek out Hiram at Ocmulgee. But war is brewing, so Hiram sends Morning Light to the unlikely haven of Charleston. As Morning Light struggles to adapt to the strange, new ways of the whites, Little Bird is drawn into the brutal Apalachee raids by his desire for vengeance and the machinations of Emperor Brim. During the war, Little Bird discovers a dark sorcerer and a Fallen Hiyaulgee instigated the destruction of the Adjik Hata to seize the beads, annihilate The People of One Fire, and usher in an age of darkness and corruption unseen since the Adjik Hata shut the way between the worlds. In the shattering aftermath of battle, Little Bird is directed to Ocmulgee. Meanwhile, Morning Light, troubled by dreams of tragedy for her adoptive family and destruction of the beads, is also urged back to Ocmulgee. Will they uncover the answers they desperately seek – or a destiny more wondrous and perilous than any they could envision?
Set in the colonial southeast during the 1700’s, ‘Trekking to Ocmulgee’ is more than just a historical fiction of a little known period of Native American and colonial conflict. It is also a coming of age story spiced with fantasy, filled with romance and suspense, drama and adventure, and peopled with characters struggling with the grim realities of the clash of Native American and colonial culture. More intimate saga than sprawling epic, ‘Spoken World’ weaves together Muskogee Creek myth, migration legends, and culture with historical events to spin a yarn of fantasy which reveals the rich tapestry of Creek Indian Ways.

Britain at War 1939 to 1945: What Was Life Like During the War?
I would like further reviews of my 135 page history of world war 2 – enlivened by personal experiences and quotes from Churchill. The publishers are re-launching it in view of the excellent reviews from UCL People (University College London) (March 2009) and The Historical Association – a British charity for teachers in primary and secondary education and other academics.
The book is available as an e-book as well as in paperback and was written to make the history available to the general public in readable form.
My earlier offer of review copies was oversubscribed but produced only one review, admittedly five star. I discovered that other recipients simply added the book to their to-read list, in some cases with enough books in it to last a lifetime! Anyone interested in actually writing a review, please contact me at james.lingard872@gmail.com.

In the bestselling tradition of Smashed and Glass Castle, this raw, eye-opening memoir tells the powerful story of Elizabeth Garrison’s fractured childhood, descent into teenage drug addiction, and struggle to overcome nearly insurmountable odds. Elizabeth invites the reader behind the closed doors of a picture-perfect Christian family to reveal a dark, hidden world of child abuse, domestic violence, and chilling family secrets all performed in the name of God under the tyrannical rule of her father. Like countless teenage girls, Elizabeth turns to drugs and alcohol to escape. With smack-you-in-the-face honesty, Elizabeth chronicles the dark realities and real-life horrors of teenage drug abuse, living on the streets, foster homes, and treatment centers. She paints an unsparing portrait of scratching and clawing her way out of the grips of child abuse, addiction, and betrayal to find the strength within herself to save her own life.
I'd love any feedback.
Hi, My name is David, I'd like to introduce myself and my latest work, a novella entitled, The Philosopher's Club @ Linwood and Ninety - Three. Set in America's modern day Rust Belt, it's a story of a man lost in his memory of the cities glory days, and a woman fleeing a lifetime of servitude, who cross paths in a simple twist of fate. In finding each other, they find themselves, and embark on an adventure to change the world.
I write novels with a strong romantic element to showcase a woman's mind. At one time I worked within the performing arts community, and I worked with many women who were so wonderfully creative, and possessed such an incredible depth of thought, that I was inspired to write in tribute to them.
Release date is planned for Valentine's Day (corny, I know), Thank you, for providing this opportunity to meet! Available through Amazon, at a cost of $5.99
Here's an excerpt from my story, I hope you'll enjoy it
When she walked into the diner, her attention was at first drawn to its décor, until she realized that there were no people. There was no cook, or waitress, or customers. Perplexed, she approached Johnny at his booth, and questioned, “Sir, are you the proprietor of this establishment?”
Johnny continued to eat his breakfast, with no acknowledgment of her presence. His gaze was fixed beyond the windows, at the clouds that had moved closer, and had become darker.
The woman again attempted to speak with Johnny,
”Sir, I ...”
In a tone flat and uncaring, Johnny interrupted her. “We're closed.” is all he said.
“But the sign reads open” she protested politely.
“I said, we're closed.” he repeated.
“But, I ...”
Again he interrupted her, “Yes, I am the owner of this place, and I don't serve your kind.”
The woman was somewhat taken aback, and replied, “Excuse me?”
Johnny set his fork down next to his plate and stood to face her, though she barely rose to his chest. Placing his hands on his hips, he leaned forward towards her and said, “Muslims, I don't serve Muslims. Now why don't you just go back to wherever it is you came from.”
The woman first looked at Johnny quizzically, then the hint of an amused smile crossed her face, and her full eyes shown with the flash of a mischievous challenge “Johnny... that's the name on the door, is it yours? No matter if it is or it isn't, as you've so freely batted names about.” Johnny opened his mouth to speak, but the woman held her hand up towards him, palm out, and spoke herself. “I'm really surprised at you, a black African acting this way. I would have thought with what you people have been through, you would be more tolerant.”
Now it was Johnny's turn to be taken aback, but he did find his voice after a moment, “What? Black African! Lady, I'm no more African than you are, I'm one-hundred percent all American. Now go on, leave, we're done here!” The clouds had by now become very dark, and had covered the sun.
“And I am no more a Muslim than you are!” She removed her hijab, or head scarf, and tossed it on the table. “I am one-hundred percent all American too!” she declared. Then she shook her hair loose, and placed her hands on her own hips.
They stood and glared at each other a moment, and just as Johnny was about to speak there was a flash of lightning, and a clap of thunder, and rain began to fall. It gave Johnny pause, and his hostility was somewhat subdued by curiosity. “You don't look American” is what he said.
The woman smiled, and removed her ayaba, the long black dress customarily worn by Muslim women, then tossed it onto the booth's seat. “And how about now?” she asked. She stood before him, her long, silky black hair fell well past her waist, and framed a voluptuous body. She was an attractive woman, simply dressed in blue jeans and a t-shirt. Johnny almost laughed, as she was obviously unused to, or uncomfortable with, her attempt at striking an alluring pose.
“It's raining.” he said.
“So it is.” She agreed.
