Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 40 comments Hello, my name is Stephanie and I live near Minneapolis. I read a lot of different genres including scifi, mystery, thriller and fantasy. I love cozies for their easy plots and generally warm nature (ok..there is a body usually, but you get me).

The only cozies I don't really like are ones that completely ignore police procedure - in other words, the sleuth hides or destroys evidence and nothing happens to her. Just unrealistic and usually a sign that the author has done little research.

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Welcome Stephanie! I think a lot of us see cozies as book comfort food.

I find for a lot of the amateur sleuths I have to be willing to suspend reality, which only works if the writing is really good, and I like everything else. But there are some where it's too implausible and if I roll my eyes too much, I give up and find something better.

Lisa (lisamary) | 3 comments Hi! I'm Lisa from Connecticut:) I've been going a little cozy crazy lately. I just can't get enough! I'm hunting for my next series and it looks like this is a great place to find it. I'm looking forward to chatting cozies. Happy reading, everyone!

Melinda | 1 comments Hi all! I'm in the UK but originally from Texas. I love reading cozy mysteries, especially those set in the South. I read other genres as well but CMs are just SO good! I've just finished the Lexi Graves series and I've recently read series by Ali Brandon, Jana Deleon, Krista Davis and E.J. Copperman. Am trying to decide on what's next.

Hi Melinda! Good luck on deciding what's next, there are so many to choose from. Maybe you'll get some ideas from our members' favorites.

message 759: by Tam (new)

Tam May (tammay) Hi! My name is Tam and I live in West Texas. I've always loved cozy mysteries both in novel form (mostly the classics) and in film and TV (love the Poirot, Miss Marple, and Murder She Wrote series). I'm also a writer and have wanted to write a cozy mystery series for some time. I took the plunge during last year's NaNo but I've hit a snag because I feel clueless about how to write a cozy. So I joined this group in the hopes of encouraging me to read lots of cozies and see how they work (and how they don't work) to help me write my own.

Since I joined really late, I decided to start with next month's selections and I'm looking forward to it.

Tam

Katrina Wiese (katrinawiese) | 4 comments Hi! I'm Katrina and I am a Cozy-Addict! :) I love all cozy mysteries and have many series on my bookshelves. My Kindle has just encouraged my addiction. I thought it would be a lot of fun to be around others like me and to get some more suggestions on series that I must read! Nice to meet you all!

Welcome Tam! I hope you'll find some inspiring cozies here. My PBS station is currently showing Poirot in it's Masterpiece Mystery series.

Hi Katrina! I hope we can enable your addiction :) I've found a lot of interesting sounding series - now I need to find time to read them.

message 764: by Steve (last edited Sep 05, 2014 05:27AM) (new)

Steve Hello,
I'm Steve based in the West Midlands area of the UK. I've enjoyed mysteries for most of my life (I blame an early exposure to the Joan Hickson Miss Marple TV show personally) but I've only just started to read cozy mystery books.

I'm currently working my way through a huge back log of books on my ereader including many 1st books of cozy mysery series that were free.

My personal preference is for mysteries that can be worked out by clues in the book, i.e. not holding back evidence until the last possible as a resolution, but a good story with good characters sometimes over comes that.

I've not dipped into the paranormal cozy mysteries yet (as I'm not sure if I'll enjoy them, seems too much of a mashup of genre in my mind's eye) but there's a few on my ereader so I'll at least give a couple a go.

I've joined up to see what series people recommend or if any interesting books get mentioned.

message 765: by R. (new)

R. Marquez Hello,

I'm fairly new to Goodreads. Though, I write cozies, I love all sorts of mysteries and thrillers. I'm currently reading a book by James Swain, and I'm on the waiting list at the library for the latest books by my favorite writers. Goodreads has already pointed me in the direction of two new authors that I plan to try. I love finding someone who enjoyed a book I loved. When I see that, I shoot them a message so I can get their take on the book. Goodreads is the ultimate reading club.

Welcome to the group R! GR groups are great places to find new authors and books, leading many of us to have overwhelming tbrs. I hope you'll introduce yourself and your work in the Authors and Bloggers section.

Sue Star | 24 comments Hi! I'm new to this group, a mystery fan and author in Colorado. I love mysteries in general, especially the ones that are lighter in tone. Although sometimes a darker one pops out and grabs me, like Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin recently did. I look forward to interacting here and sharing some thoughts on books.

NotQuiteAllHere Hello my name is Ami! I live is a small town in the mountains of Colorado and I love it. I have been a book nerd since I was a teenager and yes that includes comics and mangas. Mysteries are one of my favorite genres, though I am not particular to only cozies. I will read just about any mystery if it isn't too predicable. I have a horrible knack for figuring out plots and love to be taken by surprised. I am looking forward to trying some new mysteries and chatting with all of you!

My favorite season is summer. I love the warm weather, flip flops, cookouts...everything the season is about
My mood decides whether I'm reading a book in print or on my eReader
I look forward to connecting with everyone and chatting about out awesome reads!

I look forward to chatting with you and getting to know you better.

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 182 comments Hi, NotQuiteAllHere! I have been to a lot of small towns in the mountains of Colorado. You have a grand spot to sit and read books (unless, of course, you have to commute down to Denver. In which case, audio books are your friend!).

message 775: by NotQuiteAllHere (new)

NotQuiteAllHere Thanks I really love it... The whole 40 minutes to the nearest Walmart or 20 minutes to get to a grocery store is all part of the charm ;) well that's how I see it.

It just encourages planning. I lived that far or farther from a grocery for a couple of years. I learned, though there was a little shop where I could buy a quart of milk at highly inflated prices if I was desperate.

message 777: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanafarrell) | 2 comments Hi, I’m Alana from Montreal, Quebec. This is my first group on GR, so still trying to find my way around. I’m a huge reader of different genres, but haven’t read a mystery in years. I’m relatively new to cozy mysteries. I have read a few Agatha Christie books (thanks to my mom) and have read a couple of the China Bayles mysteries, but didn’t realize they were a part of a certain genre (other than being called a mystery!) Went shopping on the weekend to get November’s selections (was able to get State of the Onion, but not Death on Demand) and ended up buying 14 cozys! Have finished two already (M.C. Beaton’s Death of a Gossip and Death of a Cad), and have just started Tempest in a Teapot, the first book in Amanda Cooper’s new Teapot Collector’s series. Looking forward to reading and learning more about the different series.

Welcome to the group Alana! We're happy to be your first group, and if you have any questions, we'll be glad to answer them. It sounds like you had a good time on your shopping trip :) I've heard mixed things about Tempest in a Teapot, so I'll be interested in what you think of it.

I've *stolen* Blood Song from your shelf and added it to mine :)

P.J. (pjdoolittle) | 1 comments Hello everyone ~~ My name is Pat and I live in the upper Midwest. I've been reading cozy mysteries for awhile now, but only recently learned that they are a genre all of their own! I'm currently working my way through Victoria Laurie's two series - The Psychic Eye Mysteries and The Ghost Hunters Mysteries, while waiting for the new Jess Laurey book to come out after the New Year. Happy Holidays, all!

Welcome Pat! With mysteries having a lot of sub-genres now - it's sometimes a bit confusing to me. I have several books left to read in VL's series, and hope to catch up on them and several others next year.

Bridget's Quiet Corner (chaptersandscreens) Hi, my name is Bridget. I read a variety of books but found myself picking up a cozy for the first time last year (Miss Julia books) and have been hooked/curious ever since. Although I only read a couple of the Miss Julia books (by Ann Ross) they had me looking for more books. Now that I have my kindle back..I can find more cozies (for free) and enjoying them until I find authors I can really enjoy. :-)
