Twilight
discussion
Why do you think people hate twilight so much?

Some of us hate both

Why read them? Because it's a challenge. Personally I wanted to have my own opinion on it. My friend suggested and dared me to read the whole thing to gather my own personal opinion rather than just basing it on someone else's opinion. It was a challenge read for me, because I didn't like most of it, but I did find enjoyment out of the redeeming moments.
The relationship just bothered me.

It's popular to hate things just for the sake of hating it, especially among the internet. And the more popular you are, the easier a target you make. "
Yes, but that's typically a smaller group of people than you would realize. There are a lot of people that have actually read the books and find the relationship to just be... awful. Or just the writing by itself.

... Sorry but I felt a little sick reading that, I don't mean to be rude but... you should never never never control your partner like that no matter how much you "care". It's just inappropriate. Dismantling property (her car) and kidnapping (Alice slumber party) is NOT okay. Not to mention she was afraid of his anger (also known as walking on eggshells), which is not okay in a relationship. Fear of your partner means you are on unequal footing. It means they have power over you and that's not conducive to an equal and healthy love relationship.
Stalking someone and watching them while they sleep without their permission (also breaking and entering) is NOT okay and I don't see how people don't find that creepy? I mean it's not like they were dating yet. I would get a restraining order. His way of talking to her was constantly manipulative (just do it my way, Bella, just this once? --- which is ...all the time actually) and condescending. Not to mention fake apologies! In the second book he dumps her and then whilst apologizing to her ...in the same sentence begins to blame her
“I lied, and I'm so sorry—sorry because I hurt you, sorry because it was a worthless effort. Sorry that I couldn't protect you from what I am. I lied to save you, and it didn't work. I'm sorry.
But how could you believe me? After all the thousand times I've told you I love you, how could you let one word break your faith in me?”
She tries to make it seem so sweet, but as soon as you blame someone "But how could you believe me? (Blame and not taking responsibility) After all the thousand times I've told you... (Condescension) I love you, how could you let one word break your faith in me? (Complete blame and guilt trip)"
Oh and "...I hurt you, sorry because it was a worthless effort." (Manipulative attempt to gain pity...)
Just saying...

And lets not forget Jacob who in the beginning I thought was a fairly decent character but then he forced a kiss on her (sexual assault) and then threatened to kill himself if Bella didn't kiss him again. And again this is all supposed to be so touching and romantic.

I think one reason it's hated on is the movies. They suck. The actors just don't fit the part. I've read the book and apparently Bella is suppose to have really red cheeks and she blushes alot. Kristen Stewart does not blush, her cheeks are pale, and she's soooooo dull it ruins the image of Bella from the book. Even Edward is all wrong. How many times have I read from the book that he laughs? A billion, but Robert Pattinson does not chuckle or laugh at all, either that or he does and it looks all wrong.
Everyone has their own opinion.

VAMPIRES AND WEREWOLVES SOUND STUPID!!!!"
I don't even like Twilight, but I can already tell you're not the brightest bulb in the room.

I don´t like Justin Bieber or One Direcction but i don´t hate them

I agree Lauryn. I think every girl deserves an Edward and a Jacob. If only, hey?"
I think girls deserve better than a controlling, abusive stalker or a an abusive pedophile. call me crazy :)
Also the writing is terrible, as i mentioned on another board the example of: Aro laughed "ha ha ha" he chuckled. What a terrible sentence.

People don't like Rebecca Black, they like to hate her. Just because she's popular doesn't mean people like her; she's popular because people enjoy making fun of her. I heard her singing every Friday for months after her song came out, and trust me nobody was honestly enjoying it. Also I don't think people dislike Twilight just because of the movie. That might be the reason for some people but definitely not all. Maybe people continue to talk about it because there is satisfaction in having people agree with your opinions. Just a thought.

what i really hate about the series is pretty much breaking dawn. it had the biggest build-up for the war that never happened. the damn thing was anti-climatic because the author didnt have the backbone to kill any of her characters.

But what else does he have to his personality besides rich and hot? Not that there are any negatives to rich and hot, but he seems to have no passion, no sense of humour and no weird personality quirks. All those little things that you really notice and treasure when you love someone.

Also I think some people just hate it because of the constant talk about it and the screaming girls (and guys!) that people get so annoyed with.
The moves could have been better too, like seriously though, I want more than one face from Bella
Also I guess some people just hate vampires and werewolves or just don’t like them
BUT the one thing I hate, hate, hate and hate, hate, hate, hate about people who hate Twilight is if they haven't read the books. I hate people who immediately judge Twilight as a piece of crap and don’t read the books. If you do that how the HELL does you know what it's about, Huh?
P.S please stop comparing it to other books. It just hurts sometimes you know. People judge and they judge and seriously it annoys the HELL out or fans and it just gets pointless. If you have reduced Twilight to a piece of crap in your mind ten why bother. I swear every time I hear someone say this book is sooooo much better than Twilight I feel like ripping their heads off. It like, enough already. Fans have taken the crap, criticism, hate mail and much more and we don't real like having to think it over again every time a new hit book is published!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whew...I think I’m done :)

probably because of the actual people casted in the movie.
I personally don't like it. But having said that the first time i read the series i loved it. However after reading a lot of other books and then going back to it i realised that in my opinion the point of the story was not something that i found important and worth my time and i found that there was a real lack of depth to the characters and i began to find it irritating and poorly written.
Thats my opinion and i think that its really insensitive and stupid just to hate something because people decide its not cool anymore. If you're going to hate on something have a legitimate reason.

1) If a guy would commit suicide being without me, there's a problem. (Romeo and Juliet or not, that was still unhealthy and that's a tragedy.)
2) If a guy feels like he's "letting me" see my friends, "letting me" drive, there's a problem. He thinks he has power over me.
3) A guy who stalks me before even dating me and watches me while I sleep gets a restraining order.
4) Any guy who dismantles my car (disrespecting my property, disrespecting me) and kidnaps me to KEEP me away from my friend gets dumped.
5) A guy who makes me afraid of his anger and controlling behavior gets dumped and maybe certain helpful services called if I am so afraid of the consequences of dumping him.

If a guy can't live without me, he's either obsessed or needs to know that one day we will be parted, whether he likes it or not.
Someone who LETS their girl friend see their friends? As Carly already stated, there's a problem. He does not get to govern what I do.
What more could I want? Please. Less is more.

If a guy can't live without me, he's either obsessed or needs to know that one day we will be parted, whether he lik..."
Haha, what I would say to "what more would I want?":
I would say I would want someone who RESPECTS me. Someone who lets me stand on my own two feet figuratively and literally (someone who doesn't carry me everywhere!), but is there when honestly I can't. I wouldn't want someone who's good at EVERYTHING, honestly that would get frustrating. Though, Edward is not good at relationships, that's one thing he's bad at and that one thing he's bad at I would also not be able to stand.
I would also prefer that it's not someone who would start out wanting to kill and eat me. If it were JUST drink some of my blood? That's an entirely different story, but KILL and EAT. I cannot possibly put my life into that person's hands.

Yeah I want better than a guy who will:
-break into my house at night to watch me.
-constantly condescends me and calls me a "silly little thing"
-is so dependant on me he will kill himself without me there
-LET me see my friends, I don't need his permission to have guy friends or to hang out with them
-who damages my property to prevent me seeing said friends or has his family members kidnap me to stop me
-a guy who is a physical threat to me when he is angry so i spend my time afraid of what he could do
-a guy who will threaten to kill himself if i do not kiss him
-or kisses me forcefully against my will
-carries me around and treats me like a child
Seriously the biggest problem I have with what you just said is about LETTING you hang out with another guy. really, you need your boyfriend permission to have certain friends?

If a guy can't live without me, he's either obsessed or needs to know that one day we will be parted, w..."
I agree with you fully on this! And about the good at everything part? I have a friend like that, and that's probably the one problem I have with him! I also have another friend (boy) who was on and off going out with one of my friends (girl) and always messed things up. I'm so glad she finally got out of it. She was strong enough to do that, so why can't a character do the same?

... Do you mean ogres? And if so, why? Because we aren't fawning over Edward or Jacob?

I agree with you so much on this one. So many women in the world are much more competent than Bella, yet somehow people find it interesting to read about her pathetic little life?

Who are you talking to? We're all discussing relatively civilly and nobody else is calling anyone names.

It's a discussion board isn't the idea that we share different opinions?

I have never met anyone called Breanna, how did you know that I'm an ogre? I've hid it so well all these years...

I know, not to mention a lot of the time it makes Bella feel inferior, so I don't see how she finds that so wonderful.

Completely agree, you'd feel inferior all the time and spend so much time worrying about what your going to say/do/wear, how your going to act, what you know and think. It would be so tiring. How could you ever have fun and just be with the person you love if your worried about all this stuff.
You never hear a girl say "I met the most perfect guy, when I'm with him I feel unattractive, uncoordinated and stupid..*sigh* it's wonderful"

YES. That. Great way of saying it.

When Twilight was the big craze at my school there was just 1 girl who went to see the first movie, then nearly everybody was reading the books. The people who weren't reading the books were the people who didn't really like the girls who were, though there was some overlap.

I intensely dislike the movies, and the fact that most Twilight fans are so enraptured by the idea of them that they don't recognize how bad they really, really are. I really dislike Kristen Stewart in them - but I think that she did make me see some of the flaws in Bella that I hadn't noticed before. As a whole, I don't think that they could have been improved much by her being recast, so that's a non-issue.
So yeah, the books are mediocre at best and the movies (and the rabid fans) ruined what little appeal the books had for me. I might still read them again, I own them - and sometimes I want something brainless.

I read the newspaper for my realty, I read books for the escape, and the more supernatural critters the better.

I think you have to have read the books to fully get the movies because so much explanation for stuff is left out. I watched breaking dawn with a friend who hasn't read the books and when Bella got pregnant she was like "of course she got pregnant you had sex without any sort of contraception! Why are they so shocked did they skip sex ed? Edward can't be the first vampire to bang a human, this can't be new information"
Some of this stuff was addressed in he books but in the movies no mention of it, although even in the books there didn't seem to be much about other vampire/human sexy time, and it has to have happened before, by the law of averages and the thousands of years vampire's have been around it must have.

regarding the story...although vampires and werewolfs are outlandish..the display of human emotions is what made people to read it..!!
i mean....its teens story...what more do u expect?
whether people love it or hate it....they are still discussing about it...!!
many dont like twilight cz they dont want to believe that undeniable love of edward's or the unquestioned trust of bella towards edward exists or can possibly blossom..!!
and more over the angst and the second step always proves or makes the character realise the love towords the protagonist character bella's world..!!
sometime i do accept that its annoying..but still...do u question a love of mother towords her child?? or the love of a dad towords his daughter??
its the same here..!!

I'm only participating in this discussion because I HATE Twilight, not because I secretly like it and want to talk in depth about it.

So ppl don't hate "twilight" they hate the films... =/
