That's the only time in my life I almost punched someone over a book.
Bahaha, Thanks for that, RA. And let the record show that if you ever get into a legitimate altercation in defense of Cormac McCarthy... I got your back, man.

Here's my review from Facebook -
Very fun mash-up of Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, Mars Attacks, and Monsters, Inc., and more than a touch of Dr. Strangelove, with Reese Witherspoon playing the empowered (in more than one sense) heroine.
I loved the mismatched band of monsters/heroes, especially the roach mad scientist (voiced by Hugh Laurie), and the blue blob (voiced by Seth Rogen), and most especially the giant fluffy beetle, Insectosaurus.
The animation was almost too good, at times. It's weird when it looks too real, I think. What do you guys think?
If you go, be sure to stay through the first part of the credits, because there's just a little bit more...

My kids watched Hotel for Dogs last night. Don Cheadle is in it! I had no idea. The boys liked the movie, I guess. I was kind of half paying attention, so I can't comment.

I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I thought it was absolutely hilarious.
RA - I thought The Road was magnificent, but I think if I had kids putting it down would be the wiser thing to do.

I really, really want to see that Anvil movie...

We do have a lot of DVDs, thanks to the following math:
2 movie tickets: $20ish
Add popcorn or a soda (I can abstain, but Zu considers it part of the experience, which is reasonable) and you're talking $25 or $30
OR buy 4 previously viewed films from Blockbuster for $20. Four times the viewing pleasure, and cheaper, healthier snacks.
Hence, the quadrupling of our DVD collection.
We use Netlix one at a time too! And our local library stocks tons of cool new movies - usually new releases get there before one comes available on Netflix.

They typically have whatever I want. I just have to request it online and they'll hold it for me. The shelves usually look picked over.

Next, let's drop them on the gritty floor and step on them a few times before we take them back to the library.
Aargh!
Side note: Did you know that a VHS tape can last 100-150 plays, and still work?

I think libraries aught to require a credit card deposit for DVDs that would ensure people would be careful with them. But then again I guess that is beside the point.

I would chat with the kids about the fiction books they were checking out when I was helping them, especially the ones I'd read too, but what a patron checks out is supposed to be confidential.

Except, of course, in cases that are vital to NATIONAL SECURITY.

Well, if I didn't like all of them, I'd be concerned about a breach of privacy. I do like all of them, though... and, yes, we exchange ideas on occasion. It's just, well... that was an eye-opener for me.

I find this fascinating...some librarians, the ones I know pretty well, seem more comfortable saying "I saw this!" or the like when I'm checking out a movie.
I'd have to train myself to be a good librarian. I'd want to ask questions such as "why are you checking this out?", not out of judgment (most of the time:) but more out of curiosity.

If I don't get it from there, I'd rather buy it used--same price as renting from Blockbuster plus a couple of bucks, if we love it we keep it, if we don't we trade it at e-trade, a store here that trades dvds, cds, and games.

(Although, I thought the same thing, Sally, when I'd seen the DVD jacket on display the first several times I passed it.)
Someone really went to town on the "goofs" page of Eagle Eye. I love reading the goofs. It makes revising my paper move to the back, the far far back recesses of my psyche.
For instance, Revealing mistakes: At the funeral of Ethan Shaw, in the close-up shot of Ethan's face, his eyelids are clearly flickering.
What movie "funeral" doesn't have an actor laying there, trying his best not to flicker his eyelashes?

Haven't seen Eagle Eye, but you should enjoy the other two.

Sweeter tells me we watched that recently. I cannot remember it. I tend to block out Steve Carell. That must be it.

I want to see Defiance again while it's still at the dollar theater. Did you guys see that?

You don't like Steve? I'm about where I can't too much more of him either.

I'm right there with you on Steve, but on the other hand Anne Hathaway was in it.
