The only difference was that whiskey was misspelled in one.Whiskey and whisky are both correct. Ideally, Irish and American should be spelled whiskey and Scotch and Canadian whisky. The mnemonic is that Ir e land and Am e rica make whisk e y, but Scotland and Canada have no E.
John wrote: "The only difference was that whiskey was misspelled in one. Whiskey and whisky are both correct. ..." Notice that I didn't say anything about which was correct! But Updike is a US citizen so I'm guessing that the Whiskey one is preferred. No matter how profound the quote, listing it once is enough.
Needs rivka's touch - error - only GR employees can delete this quizhttp://www.goodreads.com/quizzes/1331...

When you find a quote that needs deleting or correcting, click on the green link "# people liked it" that will bring up the quote on its own page and the top line should look something like Author name > Quotes > Quotable Quote (edit)
Click on the edit link and you can correct any typos, add keywords or even delete quotes if you're sure that that's appropriate. The delete option is below the save button.
Personally, I'd advise against deleting that particular quote 8 people have marked it as liking. And Lady Gaga does meet the criteria for notable people. It's not EXACTLY pornographic and the source is a popular celebrity.
I was going to change the attribution of the song because Lady Gaga is wrong. Someone has changed it to Rihanna which is also wrong because she only sang it. I have changed the formatting (because it was wrong) but to which of the team of songwriters do we attribute the work? There seem to have been at least five, none of whom were Rihanna. I don't see any of them as being notable outside of their fanbase (which must be pretty large).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26M_%2...
Gerd wrote: "I would keep Rihanna, everything else would be too confusing."I would agree with that, but it is not her quote.
Aleph wrote: "well, Rihanna did technically say it, but thanks." perhaps if we ever get a verifiable attribution as to the origin we can add a parenthetical [as stolen from]
Stephen wrote: "Aleph wrote: "well, Rihanna did technically say it, but thanks." perhaps if we ever get a verifiable attribution as to the origin we can add a parenthetical [as stolen from]"Well, the songwriters seem to be the earliest so far but the basic quote seems timeless. I'm sure I heard something very similar years ago.
These are well known fake Pessoa quotes:

At least one had a citation. I deleted the one that was far too long and I combined the two similar ones (keeping the one with the citation).
Also edited #127.

http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...Please correct this quote. The Michael Grant that is shown is the wrong one. The book that this quote came from is called Lies. By this guy http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
I've tried several variations and can't get the right guy's books to appear in the selection menu. If you can tell me the trick while you're at it, that would be great.
That Michael Grant is Michael^^Grant. So editing the quote to add an extra space between the two names. I found this out by going to the Author page, selecting one of his books (if not a gr author then edit the author profile to find out) then editing the book - counting the number of spaces in the name
hmmm... I was pretty sure that i tried the name with one, two and three spaces between first and last. But I couldn't get the booklist to change. Is there a trick to that?
Not that I know of, just make sure you don't re select from the drop down list if it appears - If I add another space I ignore the drop down - may or may not reset to the old value, I have never tested

Hi, Rivka. I know it has a citation, but it's a fake. The author is Nemo Nox, a brazilian blogger. I have several links to prove it, some by Pessoa experts, the Casa Fernando Pessoa in Lisbon and the blogger himself, but all the texts are in Portuguese. Can you delete it, regardless of the fake citation?
If necessary, I can post all the links.

Could a super librarian add the tag "opening lines" to this quote? http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...
It's one of the best known opening lines in literature and deserves to be among those listed. There is a much longer version already showing but I can remove that tag when the shorter version is listed.

That's the source: http://www.nemonox.com/ppp/archives/2...
http://www.pessoa.art.br/?p=98
http://static.publico.pt/homepage/pro...
But Nemo Nox, the author, never wrote a book, just a blog, reason why I didn't just edit the quote.

Can a super librarian please fix the tags on this quote? http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...
perhaps spell success correctly and remove the tags "shut,up,your, mouth"
Paula, what's the correct way to handle proper names as tags? The quote I just cited has Albert and Einstein as tags even though he's cited as the author. Should there be one tag Albert Einstein, or one for each name, or none?
Sorry, I should have asked before.
This was a character quote, and somebody put him as an author, which he isn't. http://www.goodreads.com/author/quote...
Re 145 - Stephen, I don't think we have any such "policy" or guidance on this. My preference would be one name since it may be the person is in the quote but not the "author" of the quote. You could start new thread with this question and see if we can come to some consensus.
Re 146The only thing you can do with the author is merge in to unknown or leave it there or if appropriate merge in to a correct author profile. At some point in time there will be a script to remove empties but it's probably some away away according to rivka.
Julia wrote: "But Nemo Nox, the author, never wrote a book, just a blog, reason why I didn't just edit the quote."
He doesn't have to be an author; he has to be "notable". It seems like Nemo Nox qualifies.

This one has more than 500 adds, so it needs a super librarian to edit it.http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...
The word "thron" should be changed to "thorn."
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...Can a super librarian correct the tag twighlight on this quote? The tag should be twilight. I've corrected all the less popular ones that were misspelled.

A question mark at the end of the quote might not be a bad idea either. :)

Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.>Elvis Costello, Thelonius Monk, Frank Zappa?
Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.
Steve Martin?
Quote Investigator says it's older than all of them.

I suggest qoutes-on-writing be changed to just on-writing
