Jolly good throat-ripping fun.

Also, if what you like about Sherlock Holmes stories are the parts where he's not there, this is a good choice. He's missing for half or more of this book.

This answers a lot of interesting questions, and is a quick enough, entertaining read.

I wish I had done it as an actual reading book, rather than an audio book. The author read it herself, and while the writing is funny, she tries a bit too hard.

Edgar Rice Burroughs
“I have discovered that the world over, unusual weather prevails at all times of the year.”
Edgar Rice Burroughs

Yehuda HaLevi
“Tis a Fearful Thing

‘Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.

A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be –

to be,
And oh, to lose.

A thing for fools, this,

And a holy thing,

a holy thing
to love.

For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.

To remember this brings painful joy.

‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.”
Judah Halevi

Alan Alda
“The difference between listening and pretending to listen, I discovered, is enormous. One is fluid, the other is rigid. One is alive, the other is stuffed. Eventually, I found a radical way of thinking about listening. Real listening is a willingness to let the other person change you. When I’m willing to let them change me, something happens between us that’s more interesting than a pair of dueling monologues.”
Alan Alda, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I've Learned

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
“Confía en el tiempo, que suele dar dulces salidas a muchas amargas dificultades...”
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de La Mancha

Anne Tyler
“She was good at talking with young people. She seemed to view them as interesting foreigners.”
Anne Tyler, The Amateur Marriage
