Book Covers - The Good, The Bad and The WTF?
Louise, I'm going to be laughing about that cover for days. What the heck was the artist thinking?
I really like this cover. It's sorta creepy.

I really like the Touched cover. Ali - The new covers are great.
Funny the touched cover feels similar to the a cover, which I loved.
They are both pretty awesome covers. I'm going to look up touched and see what it's about.

It reminds me of Harry Potter and how the wizards travel in the movies.
Touched and Warm Bodies are gorgeous and surreal. I'm not so sure about the new covers for Amanda Hocking's books. They're better than the old ones, but the subject of each image is so small that it translates poorly to thumbnail.

This chick gets awesome cover art...I noticed her new cover and I like it (other than the girl's weird position on the couch) almost as much as I liked the cover for her other book The Replacement.

I did start it but I think clockwork angel came out around the time I got so it was bumped back but the beginning (only read about 2 chapters) was really good. Im planning on picking it back up soon

I'd be curious to see what you think of Whitechapel Gods as well. I had two different people tell me they didn't like the book, but since I'm always looking for new and interesting Steampunk finds, I'd be willing to consider trying it if someone could tell me something good about the book. Did you read Boneshaker yet? I actually tried reading that one and was interested in the world outside of where the characters were confined, but ended up stalling out about halfway through. I was hoping to get back to it someday, but just haven't found the motivation yet.
Steampunk seems to be very hit and miss with me. I love the concept of it, but very few authors seem to call to me in this genre.

It's all about the mood I'm in. Sometimes I can get into heavy world-building and other times my mind starts to wander. I try to make sure I'm in the right frame of mind before tackling wordier adult books.So I tried that Lifeguard book from the last page just to see if the book itself would redeem that horrific cover. I really wanted to like something about Lifeguard just so I could make a great case for not judging a book by its cover, but only made it about 75 pages in before I had to let this one go.
They revealed the covers for Fallen in Love and Rapture. I really liked the covers for Fallen and Torment, but I did NOT like the one for Passion. It looked vectored and too edited and just didn't look right to me. But these bring the gorgeous back imo:

Well, one of the books is a prequel (Passion) and one of these new ones is short stories so I guess technically there are 3. Kinda sorta. lol.
Wow, those covers just, wow.So Fallen in Love is a short stories book? Short stories about whom? Luce and Daniel? or the side characters? I would definetly read some side stories about Cam or the other characters. You know, these cover are making me want to finally read Passion...

I like how Fallen in Love is the same dress as the original cover, just with the "real" look.

Lauren Kate does win for most stunning book covers, IMO. (minus Passion):)

Yeah, Angie, I know what you mean. The cover art set us up. I just ignored Luce like I ignored Bella and Elena. lol
I liked the other characters so much I just had to keep going.
I think the Fallen covers are gorgeous, but I still like Hush Hush covers more for some reason... well 1 and 3, lol. I'm not a big fan of 2.
I loved The Replacement cover. It looks very Tim Burton to me!! Whitechapel Gods and Touched covers are awesome as well! I still really, really like this one:

Yeah, if you google the book you can see the rest of the images. The book seems to be a children's version of House on Haunted Hill(the movie with the insane asylum ghosts). Those photographs are creeeepy! I think they're true vintage photos, too, of children's circus life...Wendy, we totally posted the same pics at the same time! I just forgot to hit post! lol
I love ALL the Hush Hush covers! I can't wait to see the cover for book 4. I love it when I can show off a pretty series like HH and Fallen. Well Passion isn't my favorite cover, it was kind of a let down next to the first 2 books, but Rapture is stunning for sure.

You're making me think of The Walking Dead now, which I started after you all were talking about it so much. It was up on Netflix, so we watched the first two episodes tonight.
I agree that Passion's cover was terrible. I also agree that the covers are better than the books. A lot of people got sucked into reading the books because of the covers.

Those photographs are c..."Actually, the author would go to estate auctions and things like that and find these old pictures that just looked creepy. These are real photographs, that have no been edited in any way (most of them are quite old too) and he decided to write a story to connect them.

That's what makes it even creepier. I like how he decided to write a book connecting them. I just read the blurb of the book and it made me think of The House on Haunted Hill b/c of the insane, evil ghosts and disturbing images. :)
I like Patch much more than Daniel too, but I think Daniel does get a bad rap sometimes. Luce would go around and put herself in danger out of stubborness, and Daniel would clean up her mess/try to keep her out of the crossfire.Cam is the only truly great character in the Fallen series at this point. I would read a spinoff book about him.

So we've seen the "ethereal girl in a pretty dress" trend and the "floating, flying and hovering girl" trend among others lately. Here's another one I'm seeing a lot of recently - the "underwater" trend.
I don't mind some of these trends. I have a thing for basically anything that is floaty: fabrics blowing in wind, smoky looking things, things suspended in liquid.
Sorry, deleted the wrong comment there.A lot of the covers are very pretty and they do draw the eye so you'll look at the book summary, which is a great marketing tool. Fallen is the ultimate example of a book which bagged readers simply because of a pretty cover. Whether or not people loved the book was a mixed reaction.
But yeah, I already went on about this already. Love the pretty dress covers, but am also looking forward to seeing some other inventive cover designs that stretch the imagination a little. Coming up with creative cover art seems to be a fairly new idea (compare books from now with 15 years ago, for example), so I'm excited to see where this goes beyond a pretty girl standing on a cover in a pretty dress.
Sci-Fi and Fantasy will probably have some great breakout covers in the next few years. Steampunk as well, I'm betting.

and the Ophelia looking one Jenny posted, etc. There have been a lot of these types of covers lately, for sure.Hand-holding is another trend. Someone had posted a few covers in this topic, and I've read 4 different books in the past month which featured a couple holding hands on the cover.
