Book Covers - The Good, The Bad and The WTF?

I have read a few of the fairie YA books and I pretty much agree, they aren't my favorite. I do have one exception, which I know a few people didn't like, but I really liked NEED. I liked the creepy factor of the pixies. it made them different. the little pointy teeth was so creepy and I could picture it so well in my head. And i really loved the fact Nick was a werewolf. LOL

Back on my love of assassins/ninjas/warriors covers, I saw this one on Netgalley and had to look at it for a little while.

It's still sort of pretty-ish, but the muted tones are nice. This little blurb sounded different :
Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee's wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above--like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.

It's just whimsical and has a lot of pretty elements in the background. I like the mosque(?) way back in the background.

Although, the subject matter somehow intrigues me. I'm weird like that.
But that picture is seriously disturbing.

HOLY SHIZZLE.
There are some things you just shouldn't be exposed to first thing in the morning...

I know it's seriously odd. I personally think they should have mixed that cover with this version, because it at least would have fit better.

I'm bummed because that cover really throws off my set!

Although I am cheering about an alien book. I saw two different books today featuring aliens - one was about an alien abduction. Yay for other types of Sci-Fi coming back!

I loved the cover for book 1(Its what picked my interest in the first place) and I definetly love this one too!!

All three together:

Is it just me or does it look like she has turned her head but her hair didn't turn with it? lol

There's tons more out there. I've just been coming across the hand-holding cover a lot recently. lol.

I really like the way they designed the two covers so that the colors are switched up; grayscale background with small areas of red/vibrant red with grayscale central area. Very eye-catching and side-by-side you can tell these books belong to the same series even if there was no text or anything else letting you know.

There's actually a couple of listopia lists on GR featuring books which have similar covers using the same stock photo that's been modified.
Here's an example of similar covers using the same picture :

Ami,
Anna Dressed in blood was a good read, and definitely creepy for the time of year. It's darker than the cover would imply. I did think the first cover almost looked too pnr, which would mislead people trying to avoid a romance book, but the second one implies a little bit more of a scary factor. The color progression is nice, I agree.

I love the cover's you've chosen!

Is it sad that I had to read the description three times in order to be able to decipher the meaning to mean this (click on photo above to go to the page with the actual book summary) :
Busy and stressed out girl goes on vacation and meets a laid-back boy. Said boy may or may not have some sort of magical quality about him which makes him different from other boys, and this magic causes an almost unhealthy obsession in said girl, making her want to know his secrets.
But, I doubt the author picked that cover or that summary, so now I'm having this weird urge to read the book and see if I can find a hidden gem underneath a strange cover and summary.

Oooops. Sorry about that :/

I just noticed that the third cover has been released (unless this is a placeholder, but the font and style seems to match the first two, so I'm doubting it). Actually, I think I do like it - everything but the weird hand position.

Edit: Oh I see, she's fiddling with the pearls. The way they hang it looks like they stop before they wrap around her weirdo hand.

Wendy, I've seen just as many guys read Hounded as girls (it seems to appeal to the Dresden Files crowd), so I'm guessing the books are definitely marketed as gender neutral UF.
