Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments The wait doesn't bother me, but when a book gets delayed or pushed back over and over and over then my impatience flares up. Though I'd much rather wait and have a finished product than to get something that was rushed. I can see why GRRM took 6 years to finish book 5. He's juggling a lot of complicated story lines in this series. I'm *hoping* that now that they've made it into a successfully epic TV series that he'll be more focused on completing The Winds of Winter while his stuff is popular with a new audience.

Yeah, those covers are great. Fallen is still my fave so far of all of them. Passion is my least fave.

message 53: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments The first two covers are nice but I don't like the third one at all. It looks too much like a vector compared to the others and the girl's proportions seem off. I'm also not a fan of the infusion of warm colors into it. Design team fail on #3 imo.

message 54: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 15, 2011 09:53PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Yep, the warmth in Passion threw me off, too, but that might be intentional. Passion denotes warmth.

Cassandra Clare's covers are some of my faves and they all match. Except, for me, in Clockwork Prince Jem's face looks a little lifeless and plastic.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Clockwork Angel is such a beautiful cover. I pull it out and look at it every so often.

I actually like Jem's cover, but I think I'm in the minority.

CoFA's cover bugs me because Clary looks cross eyed.

message 56: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Clockwork angel would be nice if their wasn't someone so foul on the cover.

message 57: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Brittany, I take it you're not a Will fan?

message 58: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Definitely not! Jem all the way.

message 59: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Don't get her started. Really. She'll rant about Will all day.

It's funny because Fallen to me was the worst of the 3 books. I borderline hated it because it was so slow and Luce walked around pining for Daniel the whole time. The only thing that made the book bearable for me was Cam. So you'd think I would have hated the other books, but I actually enjoyed book 2 a lot and book 3 was decent, but not as good as book 2.

message 60: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Oh I'm not that bad!

Cam is the best thing about that series otherwise its shit.

message 61: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 15, 2011 09:59PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Hahahaha...I like them both. I haven't leaned more to one side yet. I love Jem's sweetness, but I love Will's wounded bad boy snark, too. I need another book to really be able to see better who I want Tessa with. This series is most definitely not like TMI where I wanted Clary with Jace from the start.

I like Jem's cover I just wish his face looked more alive and human and not Ken doll like.

message 62: by brittany (last edited Sep 15, 2011 10:00PM) (new)

brittany (cirilla) Baaaaah, Will is a jerk! He has no right to treat a woman that way. She should be with Jem! Jem is beautiful!

I don't really like him on the cover because I hate his hair.

message 63: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Yes, you are that bad.

I'm with you Jen. I love them both for different reasons, and I agree that there isn't the same need to have to lean toward Will in this series.

message 64: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Am not. I just like to prove my relevant points. Jenni is worse.

message 65: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 15, 2011 10:13PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Hahaha, Brittany! Don't worry you won't sway me. I must have more information to make a better choice. I feel like there's more to Will. The kissing scene in the attic from his POV really showed me that. I already know what greatness Jem has to offer, but I'm afraid he's going to die so I'm not holding out hope for him. :*(

I do know from the spoilers that we have a lovely scene btwn Tessa and Jem to look forward to!

message 66: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Yeah I know. I'm not going to go into my rant about it. Stacia is right I don't shut up so I'm stopping here LOL.

Yes we do! I can't wait!

message 67: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 15, 2011 10:22PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) I'm excited b/c I really want to learn more about Jem. I do love him. I just have a soft spot for the wounded ones. Damon Salvatore *cough* (even if I want Stefan for myself and Elena).

message 68: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Oh don't get me started on Damon he is so effing hot omg. I want Damon for Elena and for myself.

message 69: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 15, 2011 10:25PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Teeheehee...we'll have to see what the show does and see if it follows the Damon Chronicles faithfully. ;) The show is a 1000x's better than the books could hope to be.

message 70: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) It better. ;D

message 71: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Has anyone seen the similar/same book covers list? It's actually kinda funny that very different books use the same artwork for their book covers:
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/50...
Call me naive but I didn't think things like that happened haha!

message 72: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Yeah, I totally notice similar covers all the time. The biggest examples were found after Twilight came out. Other books came out with the same motif. I think publishers copy when there's an obvious trend or huge success. It kind of makes me sad. I go after books for the originality of the covers.

message 73: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) i hug my books sometimes. lol.

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Cambria wrote: "i hug my books sometimes. lol."

Hahaha! I pet my books. My coworkers laughed at me when I came back from my lunch break with the 20th Anniv edition of Outlander and I was so excited to have it I was petting the cover. They don't get it...

message 75: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I remember seeing the double covers list and it surprised me how many publishing companies still used stock (anyone can purchase) images to make book covers. You'd think they'd hire a photographer and artist to churn out a quick cover.

message 76: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) Jen- you are right they just don't get it. LOL

Stacia- I agree, you would think the bigger companies would make sure they had custom covers, just to be original.

message 77: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 17, 2011 06:38AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) I even love the smell of books. I'll just walk into Booksamillion or B&N just to get the mixture of coffee and books. Two of my favorite smells. I also love the smell of old books. Probably because my first 8 years of employment were in libraries. There's something very comforting to me about the smell of books.

I agree with Stacia and Cambria. You'd think with all the talent out there major publishers would have more unique cover art.

I really liked the Wicked Lovely cover art.

message 78: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) i love that cover too. I have this on my e-reader and haven't read it yet. I have heard good and bad about it.

You know, I really don't see why a big publisher wouldn't get a custom cover. There is no reason not too. It could be done well at a low cost. I just had my cover done for my debut novel and it was custom. We got a model and makeup artist and the designer took the photos and designed the cover.... if i can do it, then my goodness the big boys can. LOL.
And I too LOVE the smell of coffee and books. My husband calls BN my homeland bc it has my two fav places. Starbucks and BN for books! lol

message 79: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 17, 2011 11:07AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) You know, I can't really remember if I liked Wicked Lovely or not. I guess that's a telling statement. I really like faeries so I know I wanted to enjoy it. LOL
Guess I'll have to find my review again to see what my opinion was...

message 80: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 17, 2011 11:08AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Ok, so I had rated it 2 stars. The funny thing is some of my favorite authors have rated it 4 stars and above! Guess it's all about taste...

message 81: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Sep 17, 2011 11:03PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I gave Wicked Lovely a 3, but that's the rating I use for "it was okay." After checking my review, it appears that I didn't feel there was anything new or unique about the book, but that it was quick and interesting for the most part, and the less interesting parts were easy enough to skim.

YA fae books just don't seem to do it for me. I actually went back and looked up some YA fae books to see if there was one I really liked, and couldn't find one!

Wings (Wings, #1) by Aprilynne Pike - young & sappy to the point of eye rolling, but I gave it a 3 because I liked the concept of fae as plants. That was very unique to me.

The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa - gave it a 3, but have little to no memory of reading the book. I hear the series improves more with each book, so I'll get to them someday.

Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones - the pixie thing creeped me out and I wasn't a fan (although I know others who loved the book, so it might just be my problem)

Tithe (The Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black - it was just okay, but I love her as an author and am a big fan of some of her other work.

I love adult fae books though. The Fever series and Tairen Soul series are both exceptional. Fever is dark and deep, and Tairen Soul is a great traditional romantic fantasy series.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments As for book smells, there is something about a used bookstore that excites me, even though they usually smell dark and musty. I always think of used book stores as places to go hunting for treasure.

It makes me sad that I rarely go to them anymore because I read most of my stuff in ebook form now.

message 83: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Dude, I can't get into the faery books either. I WANT to, but I can't find one that I really like. The first Wicked Lovely was alright, but I didn't like the second or third. I liked the concept in Iron King, but Meghan is like Bella 2.0 and the instalove annoyed me and I suspect the real reason I like Puck and Grimalkin is because previous literature made me love them long before I picked up Iron King. I haven't read Need or Wings yet even though I have them and I'm not encouraged to pick up Tithe either.

I'm thinking of trying this one The Iron Witch (The Iron Witch, #1) by Karen Mahoney because it's got alchemy in it which sounds cool or this one The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton because I like thieves. And since this is the covers thread I'll go ahead and say that I like the cover on The Faerie Ring too. I think it's the colors and the shiny.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments

I've heard mixed things about Iron Witch, but I agree, it sounds like a cool concept. Maybe I'll check it out anyway.

And thieves in the other book? Okay, that's a definite interest grabber.

message 85: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Yeah, I love the fae, but I've yet to get a YA book that had the "wow" factor for me. I just added The Faery Ring to my list b/c you piqued my interest.

Come to think of it I've loved the fae adult lit better than YA. Dark Swan...Dorian...mmmm, 'nough said!

message 86: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I forgot about Dark Swan. For some reason, I keep forgetting it has fae. Maybe because Eugenie is a shaman I think class over race.

Yes, okay, then that's 3 fae series I really like and they all happen to be adult.

Someone needs to step it up with the YA fae thing and put out some good product.

Ahem, there are some quite good YA fae series.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I already know about your love for the Iron Fey series. What else am I missing?

message 89: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) The Iron Fey series is awesome that's why! Um Wings was good. And others. I can't remember right now.

message 90: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Sep 17, 2011 11:04PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I did actually think Wings was semi-interesting, but the girl was a bit fluffy/silly. And Tamani felt sort of like a Jace rip-off without being nearly as witty.

But...I did make a point on my review that I sometimes think people are a little bit too hard/jaded on any type of story where it might be a little bit swoony or heavy on the "dreamy boy" thing. I think it's a bit overdone some of the time, but some authors are better at pulling it off. This one...eh.

There were a lot of stereotypes and things in the book that have been done to death, so that's why it was about a 2.5 for me. If the author had focused more on the plant thing (which was pretty different), it might have made me more interested in checking out the second book.

message 91: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Wait hold up. Tamani is sexier than Jace! Sure Laurel is annoyingish but TAMANI is awesome!

message 92: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I think if I had read the book even a year ago, I would have liked it better. Unfortunately, it felt too much like other things I'd read and liked more.

But that's okay, you're allowed to like the book! I still rounded up to a 3 star for the rating, so I enjoyed it enough while reading it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I like the simplicity of these covers. There is literally nothing special about them, but a guy and a sword is usually good enough for me. I loved that one of my friends said "what a gore fest" about one of the books.

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments The Still Waters cover always makes me think of Ophelia. I hope it has some sinister stuff going on in it.

This one looks like it might have some sinister stuff too, and has another Ophelia on it! The synopsis even mentions people killing themselves. OPHELIA.

What I like about the Hounded series is that it's a man with a sword but it's not girlified by having him bare-chested and flexing. Don't get me wrong, I like a bare-chested man, but it's refreshing and it makes me take the series more seriously.
