Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I always get annoyed with movies when people run TOWARD the source of the problem, such as in War of the Worlds. If some big thing came out of the ground, I would be running AWAY from it.

message 402: by Leea (new)

Leea It reminds me of the Walking Dead for some reason. haha!

Iani | 5 comments Hi guys, I need your help ! (But first, sorry for my english, it's not my motherthong :))

I have seen on youtube a book with a gorgeous "inside" hardcover (without the jacket), but I can't find it anymore... I watch so many videos...
It was white with red flower petals. It was probably a YA book and relased not a long time ago.
If someone knows witch book that is, I would be really gratful !
Thank you for your help !

Oh and by the way, I love this topic :)

message 404: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Do you remember what it was about?

message 405: by Iani (new)

Iani | 5 comments No I don't...
It was on a IMM so she didn't really talked about it ! But I'm pretty sure it's a recent book and I belive it hasn't been published in paperback yet.

Would it work better for you if the tornado was in a jar?

Ooh, I like that cover. It looks interesting and makes me curious why the tornado is IN the jar.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments The tornado in the jar is interesting, but it's the cut-off face trend that I'm very tired of.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Just saw the newest Firelight series book cover. This one's probably my least favorite of the three, since I loved the first two covers. The lipstick looks odd and something's off with her eyes.

message 411: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) The lipstick was the first thing i noticed too.

message 412: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I like the hair though and the eyes are like cat eyes so I find them intriguing instead of disturbing

message 413: by Carina (new)

Carina How is that Firelight series anyway?
I've had the first book for ever now but after many descriptions, I was very put off. I might pick it up if the books improve as the series grows.

message 414: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Feb 20, 2012 11:36PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I didn't have a problem with Firelight, but it was not much more than a simple love story. As a cute little romance, it was fine. There wasn't a whole lot in the way of action or suspense. The idea of a dragon hunter falling for a dragon shifter was fun, but one specific romantic conversation did make me want to bang my head against a wall - never EVER again should any book be allowed to compare love or attraction to a drug. We've been down this road before.

Still haven't read the second book, even though I got it as an ARC, so it's been a while. Guess I'll probably have to pick it up at some point to see what I think and if I want to continue the series. Both Isa and Mairead's reviews are scaring me though...

Samantha | 178 comments I was browsing my TBR-pile and noticed The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima has a cover now. Quite a bit more dramatic than the previous cover and much more of a Russian vibe going on with that necklace. I guess it's the "Bayar double-falcon amulet" according to the author on her blog. Is it just me though, or is this cover missing something? It looks a little low budget to me with the buildings in the background.

Ooh, I'm excited for this one :D

Still, it's October, and it's sooo far away. I can't remember a necklace being very significant? I read it a while ago.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I think that's my new favorite cover of the series.

Didn't Han take a necklace from Micah in the first book?

message 418: by Jenny (last edited Feb 22, 2012 01:17PM) (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I think it matches the other covers great. I like it. I like all of them. They fit the books perfectly and don't use the obnoxious trends that everybody else uses.

Look at the war and destruction! Very excited for this book to come out! I heart Han and Raisa so much. Is the double-falcon the one that Micah wears? Or the one that the Bayars are searching for? I wonder what that means! Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Yeah, duh, I forgot! It's from the ancient bad guy/not really bad guy with the queen?

Yeah, they all have amulets, this would be his then?
I'll definitely need to re-read them all before this one comes out. I seriously loved that series:D Despite the inevitable love triangle.

*shamefully admits to not having read book 2 yet*

I loved book 1 though. It's probably one of the best YA fantasy books I've read, actually.

Wait, now that I think about it... I'm guessing the amulet on book 1 would be the one Han took?

message 421: by Carina (new)

Carina I was reading all the comments and thinking 'I really need to read this series!' and then I read 'love triangle' and dang I am put off now. I know that everyone loves this series and I try to not let the love triangle bother me in books in general but for some reason I really don't want them in my books lately.*sigh*

message 422: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Feb 22, 2012 03:05PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments No. no. This is not like pnr angsty stuff. Don't let that put you off. Whatever romance there is must be pretty slow building because nothing really goes in that direction in the first book.

The best thing about what I've read so far is that it reads so much like an adult epic fantasy book and nothing is dumbed down for the YA crowd, but it's still easy to read and not overwhelming.

I can't comment on the love triangle because I haven't read past the first book. I adore Amon, but was under the impression from the very beginning that Han and Raisa were going to be the main couple.

message 423: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Yeah, the serpent amulet that Han has is the one from book one. In book 3, the Bayars are searching for some powerful amulet or some such that belonged to their ancestor, but they don't know where it is. I'm thinking it must be that one, but I don't remember what it was supposed to look like, if they even knew.

message 424: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Oh good. Jenny's here. She's more likely to be able to assure you, Carina.

message 425: by Carina (new)

Carina Yeah, more than the actual love triangle, I put off by the angsty stuff. And I've heard great comments about this series up and down, so I do want to try it. I still got time before this new one comes out, so no preassure I guess. lol.
BTW, I love all the covers in this series!

message 426: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I am not sure I'd call it a "love triangle". It's more like...complications due to...certain things. And these certain things have a precedent in the world. It's so hard to explain without spoiling shit. I'll just say that I HATE pointless love triangles of the Twilight variety or girls who have to choose between awesome goofy best friend and vapid hot guy, or whatever. But I actually love what the err..complications..do for this story.

message 427: by [deleted user] (new)

so after listening to you all im going to be trying these books out now lol

message 428: by Carina (new)

Carina LMAO, love your explanation Jenny. I think as long as its not one of those overly used love triangles that have plagued books lately, I am willing to give it a try.

message 429: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Carina, this books doesn't really have a love triangle in the traditional sense of the over used love triangle tragedy that plagues more books lately. There is a triangle...it's not necessarily built on love. That and what Jenny said are the only ways to really explain it without spoilers. The books, are fabulous. FABULOUS.

And I want to pet that cover. I love the magical twinkle to the destruction. It will go nicely with all my other petable covers on my bookcase...yes yes.

message 430: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 44 comments Jenny explained it well. It's not a traditional love triangle, where the guys vy for the girl's attention and she can't make up her mind. It's complicated and impossible and improbable, etc. I just meant love triangle in the sense two guys/one girl and she has strong, strong feelings for both. I am curious about how it ends...But I'm on TEAM HAN (if something happens to enable sides).

Still, the romance isn't the prominent feature in tyhe books. It's more about the world, politics and magic.

message 431: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Its more like a love square when you really think about it. 3 boys 1 girl...although we all know one boy hasnt a snowflakes chance in hell.

message 432: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments lol yeah.

message 433: by Mimi (last edited Feb 23, 2012 08:38AM) (new)

Mimi Smith | 44 comments Ooh, I totally forgot about the third. I just thought about Han and her friend, as they're only ones who've got a chance in hell. Unless a miracle occurs, the world is realigned and they're together on a deserted island.

I guess he seems more human now, but I still thinks he's mean and don't like him.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I'm really curious now. I wish I could read book 2 instead of Finnikin for my fantasy fix, but I need to finish up a challenge this week, so I have to order that way.

message 435: by Carina (new)

Carina Well now I'm REALLY intrigued!

I thought it was shattered souls too, but the inside cover is black I believe.
But I found it ! It was Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler . You can see it here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnYsuX... around 4 minutes. It's where I saw it !
Thanks for your help :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments For some reason, I thought cover 3 would have more impact, but I still like it.

message 438: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments It would be more impressive if there was shattered glass everywhere. Something more "spectacular" or as you said impact.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I like smoke on covers for some reason. The original White Cat cover had red smoke, as does the book Addicted by Charlotte Featherstone.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 302 comments This cover has enchanted me forever. (Crazy Beautiful.)

jThe reached cover is cook, but needs to be more dramatic.

message 442: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Yep. It is such a striking cover. Too bad I wasn't feeling the book when I tried it last night. Ah well.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 302 comments Posted this somewhere else, but I love the cover for the spinnoff series of Nightshade.

Also this cover looks so sexy:

message 444: by Mimi (new)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 302 comments They are the best!!

message 446: by Carina (new)

Carina I like all the Guild Hunter series covers but that one is very...Wow...
I had no idea there would be a spinoff to Nightshade...the cover is good, but will I read it? Not sure.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 302 comments The cover alone makes sure I will. I'm waiting for my copy of Bloodrose to come so I can read book 2 and 3.

message 448: by Carina (new)

Carina Nightshade wasn't that good for me and I spoiled the last book. So now that I know how it ends, I won't finish the series =(

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 302 comments I enjoyed the first book, even with that awful love traingle.
