Back on topic... finished A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle and am currently reading Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman by Haruki Murakami.

You're welcome!

Over the weekend I finished 1984. I think I either didn't "get" it or just need to let it sink in more. I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. I feel disappointed because so many people seem to really like it.
I was going to start The Fountainhead but since I was feeling so ick towards books like 1984 and Atlas Shrugged, I went for a quick fun no-deep-thinking-necessary reads instead. Started and finished Chosen and started Untamed, books 3 & 4 in the House of Night series.

Why read The Fountainhead when you've already read Atlas Shrugged? Yeah, they have different characters and a slightly different plot, but really they're about the same thing and make the same point.
It's too bad you didn't like 1984 though. That's one of my favorite books.
Because I told a friend I would. They are his 2 favorite books. :)
I think I just have more faith in humanity than the characters in the books and the authors for that matter. I didn't find anything in 1984 as being remotely possible.

Finished book 4 Untamed and started East of Eden. I am a whole chapter in, started at breakfast this morning.

Yay!

Starting The Master and Margarita now, about 100 pages in and it's a pretty interesting read so far.
Reading all your posts I should really start Harry A History. I have had it for almost a year now, and have never picked it up.

Anyways, I finished Anna Karenina yesterday (which took me a while; such a relief to be done!) and just started The Boleyn Inheritance. I've read several books about the Tudors and Henry VIII, so I'm hoping that this one is as good as the others I have read.

Bah I didn't know Larsson passed away!!! Did Hornet's Nest actually conclude the series or is there an opening (intending sequels) that won't be fulfilled now?
Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm sick and exhausted, so I'm typing without thinking (never a good idea).

There is an unfinished fourth novel and he intended for there to be quite a few more after that. It's in the possession of his long-time girlfriend (with whom he lived), who is also a writer. It has been suggested that she may finish the novel and have it published, but she said in an interview that she will never publish it as long as it is in her possession. I read an article about it in New York Times Magazine.

It's scary that The Boleyn Inheritance is actually one of her more historically correct novels, meaning it has the least amount of errors. I was thinking about this and it kind of disturbs me...I'm glad you are enjoying it!

It was good, but I didn't like it as much as Garden Spells (her first book). I don't know if you've read any of her other stuff, but her writing style is like candy! The way she can describe things sometimes is amazing.
I just finished reading Columbine by Dave Cullen. I think it was incredibly well-written and I believe the author treated the subject of the book in the best way anybody could have asked for.
My friends called it the "terrorist book" when I first got it, but I didn't really care since I personally love reading about how events that changed the lives of so many people came to happen. It's the same reason I read about Hitler and Pol Pot - history and psychology are two incredibly fascinating subjects to me and I always make sure to read at least several books throughout the year that relates to those two topics.

I absolutely loved book [:Moloka'i|3273]! Next you'll have to read his other book.. Honolulu. Well worth it!

How are you liking them? I really enjoyed the whole series.

Now on to Anne Appelbaum's Gulag: A History while also trying to get into William Shiller's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany.

I really enjoyed that one! Hope you like it :)
Am still reading The Count of Monte Cristo, about half-way through.

I really like it so far! I had to get used to the style at first, but it's really good. I've never watched the movie, so I have no idea what's going to happen next, which makes it more of an experience I think.
I have about 30 pages left of East of Eden. It is sitting right next to my phone taunting me while I try to work. :) So far, my will power is prevailing, but I hear it calling my name.

I had read the first book previously, but it was so long ago and I got through it so fast I didn't remember any of it. I did a reread because I bought the second and third books so I could have the full trilogy, and I didn't like it as much the second time through.
I'm LOVING Rebel Angels, though.
I'm also now reading Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, because I volunteered to lead a discussion on it in another group on here.
