Congrats, Lisa Kay :). With all the buddy reading you do I'm surprised you managed to finish this too.
Thanks, Sashana! Two of these were buddy reads. Well, so was
- but everyone bailed but me. (Sans wasn't in that group.)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a very daunting book to read IMO. I tried reading it once but gave up after a few pages.
"Daunting" is right! I've lost track at the number of times I tried to read
. That is one of the reasons I was determined this time. I tried audio and struggled with it again! I finally just had to approach it as homework instead of fun and break it down into understandable parts and take notes - but EVENTUALLY I got to the good part. It was hard to do alone, too. I think a "buddy read" would have been ideal, IMHO.
Oh, I did have a couple of people encouraging me onward, but they had already read it. That still really helped.
Treating it as homework does sounds helpful.I think if I ever decide to try it again then that's how I'll have to do it
Lisa Kay wrote: "Thanks, Sashana! Two of these were buddy reads. Well, so was

Sans wrote: "XD Sorry, hon! I've tried to read it several times too, but I ended up just watching the movie instead."Oh, Sans, I didn't mean to imply you were one of the people who jumped ship. You weren't even in that group. Besides, sometimes people have to excuse themselves from a group read. Real Life keeps getting in the way. Drat!
I really did both media (audio and paperback) for
and feel like I read that book twice in doing so. I would listen to the audio, refer to the book, or go to the book and jump to the audio. There are a lot of charts, timelines, family flowcharts and e-mails that just didn't come across on audio.
I read it and the Girl Who Played With Fire. Both are really hard to get in to at the beginning. ...Dragon Tattoo more than ...Played with Fire though. It seemed like things developed a lot quicker in ...PLayed with Fire. I'm trying to decide if I want to pick up ...Kicked the Hornet's Nest yet or not.

Well, almost got it. What is up with the rarity of U?
Somewhere in this group people posted books for the rarer letters. I can't remember where it is. I'll check.
Found it, Denae! Under "Reading Challenge Logs >> Log for keeping Track of Difficult Letters". Here is the link.
Thank you! I'll confess, I rarely if ever pick books to fit challenges these days because of so many BotMs or lists I'm reading from, but I'll have to check that out. :)

Why do I get the urge to scream, "Da plane! Da Plane!"? lol
Here in the U.S., August is considered the final month of summer because kids will be going back to school. So this challenge will reflect what a lot of people like to do before the Summer Vacation period is over, and that is go to the beach. You may:
1) Do a Spell it out Challenge. You use the letters in words associated with the beach to choose which books you'll read. As always you may use the title, name of characters, or the name of an author to link it to the letters. You may ignore the 'A', 'An', 'The', etc. at the beginning of titles to get to the first significant word. So "The Virgin's Secret" would be a 'V' title and "A Highlander Christmas" would be an 'H' title." You pick which word you want or come up with one we haven't.
For example, if you pick Sun you might read:
S - Sara Gruen author of Water for Elephants
U - Unbelievable by Sara Shepard
N - Nancy Drew character in The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene
2) Read books that have a beach location in them or on the cover.
3) Read any combination of the above.
There are 3 levels.
Easy - 3 to 4 books
Sun
Fun
Fish
Surf
Swim
Moderate - 5 - 7 books
Waves
Party
Beach
Towel
Bikini
Shells
Summer
Picnic
Sun Tan
Blanket
Snorkle
Bon Fire
Difficult - 8 or more books
Swimsuit
Sun Bathe
Flip Flops
Scuba Dive
Surf Board
Body Board
Beach Ball
Sunglasses
Volley Ball
Sand Castles
Boogie Board
Beat the heat
Fun in the sun
P.S. I just threw this together in a matter of minutes. Let me know if everything makes sense or there are any spelling errors, etc.
