Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I'm listening to the very best of Ry Cooder. This album has one of my all time favourite pieces of music on it - The theme to Paris, Texas, one of the most haunting pieces of guitar music I have ever heard.

Here it is, if you've not heard it before:

Ry Cooder is a superb guitar player. He taught Keith Richards to play the slide guitar.

willie (williewit) Sometimes i listen to the whistling i have in my ears - caused by seeing about 500+ bands live.

It`s a bit like brian eno.

I remember seeing an audiologist some years ago. He said when I got ringing in the ears after a concert it was the last dying scream of the hearing of that frequency.

He also asked me if I did pistol or rifle shooting. I said yes, he said "Well that explains that hole there." Pointing to the audiogram. Evidently, even though I was wearing ear plugs and ear defenders, it doesn't really make much difference as the sound is transmitted through the bones.

You live and learn. Well, sometimes you just live.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I am listening to Animals - Pink Floyd to celebrate the pig floating over Battersea Power Station today. I gave up tickets to go and watch this in 1977 to go out with a girlfriend. Why are we so stupid when we are young?

Anyway, it is still a masterpiece!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Great choice Simon. Probably my favourite Pink Floyd album.

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments Confession time (although I probably shouldn't admit this)...the one and only time I ever listened to Pink Floyd was when someone offered me (as my mother would put it) "one of them funny cigarettes". Spent the rest of the night in the bathroom convinced I had to brush my teeth but for some reason found that I couldn't open my mouth. Haven't been able to bring myself to listen to them since.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments This is the album: The Alchemist

The record label have added a couple of extra tracks at the end. How can they do that with an album that tells a story? And you wonder why the record industry is sliding.

I can just imagine presenting Schindlers List and adding some outtakes from Saving Private Ryan to the end of it.
