Matthew McFarland (matthewwmcfarland) | 46 comments I read Middlesex last week, which is an absolutely fantastic book, read Paper Towns over the weekend, which I also enjoyed and now I'm on to Casino Royale.

message 3804: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh it's SO good Tim. I'm well on the way with Part 2 now. It's got depth and humanity as well as crime and baddies.

message 3805: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Couldn't get on with Death of an Old Git so hve abandoned it at 20 per cent read. Now getting my teeth into Peter May's The Lewis Man which is promising so far. Loved his The Blackhouse

message 3806: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading Eleven on Top (Stephanie Plum, #11) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich this morning. Stephanie's adventures still make me laugh after 11 novels. There are so many hilarious and witty scenes in this book. But I have to admit I was a bit annoyed by Stephanie in this book. I just wish she'd finally choose between Joe Morelli and Ranger!

Now I'm reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton by Kate Morton.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished The Third Rule - Part Two: Running Scared by 'our Andy Barrett. I can't get over how emotionally deep, rich and dark this is - it's far above the normal run of cops and robbers, goodies and baddies crime fiction.
You won't be surprised then, to hear that I've just started The Third Rule - Part Three: Sacrifices

message 3808: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments Wonderful news, Ignite. I'm so happy you like it :)

message 3809: by [deleted user] (new)

I read a very soppy and sweet short story romance last night - Love At First Date, thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm over half way through Vic's new book, Living In The Real Cyprus which I am finding very interesting.

:0)

Be interested to read what you thought of the Kate Morton book, Ellie. Read a couple of hers and think they still haven't really hit their stride.

message 3811: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Ellie, do you find that Stephanie is getting a bit same ol' same ol'? If I was Morelli, I'd dump her good and final since she seems to get too close to Ranger every time. I think I've got up to about #15. I do like Lula, though.

I've just finished Shattered. I was really impressed with it.
Not sure what to start next. Something light and fluffy, maybe, but I don't feel like a fluffy book.

message 3812: by John (new)

John Logan (johnaalogan) | 348 comments Finished (and loved) Reb Macrath's The Vanishing Magic of Snow back on October 15, and my review was posted today on the indieebookreview site:
http://indieebookreview.wordpress.com...

And Goodreads page:

(Sorry that's not a proper, clean link like everyone else can do here...wish I knew how to do one!)

I've just finished Vic's book - Living In The Real Cyprus which I found very interesting.

Now I'm about to start This thirtysomething life: A Diary to hopefully join in with KUF's discussions later. I've had this high on my TBR anyway since Kath recommended it!

message 3818: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished The Third Rule - Part Three: Sacrifices- the final part in the astonishingly good trilogy by Andrew Barrett. It's just left me reeling. It's beyond fantastic. I think he is the authentic voice of British crime fiction.

I've just started The Swimmer - another crime/mystery type of thing but it's suffering very badly by comparison.

message 3819: by Mo (new)

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments Finished The Blue Suitcase and starting T.F.Muir An Eye for an Eye. I cannot find the link. Another crime novel set in St Andrews. For a tiny place there is an awful lot of murders there.

message 3820: by Matthew (new)

Matthew McFarland (matthewwmcfarland) | 46 comments Finished Casino Royale, started Women by Charles Bukowski

message 3821: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished This thirtysomething life: A Diary, was rather crude in places for my taste, but in the end I did enjoy it.

Haven't made my mind up as to what to read next...

I've met Leigh Russell, she came to address our writers' group. She's the hardest working writer I've ever met, very impressive!

Really enjoyed that book if a little frightening. Don't forget to read the bios at the end, as they put a little more to the story.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Since my last visit here finished The Third Rule - Part One: Atrocities

message 3828: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments Finished Home Land by Sam Lipsyte Will write a review of it this w/e

Unsure what to start reading next. Have a TBR pile, but actually need to rehearse for an hour long solo reading at the end of the month

message 3829: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Finished Peter May's The Lewis Man - although I thought the pace faltered a little half way through, the denouement more than made up for it. Beautifully written, and the recent history was expertly employed. Look forward to reading the third novel, The Chess Men, in due course. For now, think I will allow myself to delve into Hilary Mantel's Bring Up the Bodies as I'm into self indulgent mode at the moment.

message 3830: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished the Illegal by AK Dawson - can't find it on here! It's a very good read. Just starting Food for Ghosts by Marianne Wheelaghan - again not on here.

Now reading Rings of Smoke by Diane O'Toole, sorry no link available. This child abduction/murder story is pretty horrific.

message 3834: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Still immersed in Darren's shorts.

Perhaps I should rephrase that.

message 3836: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Finished Rings of Smoke by Diane O'Toole, certainly not for the faint hearted! One scene in particular shall remain with me for a long time to come, could do with the brain bleach!
Read a cosy novella next in an attempt to reduce my blood pressure Temporarily Awaya nice 'cosy' murder, a bit like Miss Marple.

Mine was one year old last week, and was fine, and even went on planes, ferry's, coaches and jeeps last week.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12621 comments I've read quite a lot this week. Finished Eerie Britain which started off boring, but then got better and sparked a couple of conversations off. Then started reading books by traditional authors I have never read, starting with

Crooked Letter, Crooked LEtter, by Tom Franklin - not sure I would read any more of his
Then, The Secret Life of Ceecee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain, really enjoyed and would like to read more of hers
Then, Carved In Bone by Jefferson Bass, really enjoyed, would like to read more
Then, Field of Blood by Denise Mina, ditto
Just started Deal Breaker by Harlen Coben

Really good, funny, quirky and very enjoyable. totally different from The Blue Suitcase!

message 3840: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Didn't get to start Hilary Mantel's Bring up the Bodies as I was lured intoThe Blood Detective instead as it's been gathering dust for a few weeks now and it needs moving! Bought it as a secondhand DTB as the kindle version was too expensive, so sorry Dan, no royalties there for you. Am enjoying it so far. Interesting characters.

message 3841: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm still on Unseen Academicals I'm so close to the end of the series it's doing my head in that I don't have the time to read this and get it finished. I'm over 50% through though so maybe in the next couple of days...

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's the most splendid story I recall reading Kay - thoroughly well thought out and thought provoking but with really deep insights into human nature. I can't fault it.
