I don't think I agree with a 5-star rating for this book (I gave it 4-stars) but I did enjoy it. There were a lot of interesting characters and I thought the concept was pretty interesting. Imagine hearing everyone else's thoughts all of the time. I think I would go nuts. I'm starting the second book of the series tonight.
Pts: 20
1.20 WT Top Novel List

Genre: Historical Fiction
This book definitely should be on the list. I saw the movie and my friend (who is a teacher) recommended that I read the book. It really was amazing and so sad.

4.10 Character goes on vacation

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Cameron doesn't necessarily go on a "vacation" but he goes on a journey/adventure around the country to find the doctor who can save him from mad cow disease.

Oh great, thanks for the suggestion! Here's my next one. It's set in a dystopian world, so it's not precisely school as we know it, but the entire book focuses on her testing well and graduating into the Dauntless sect. If that's not okay let me know--I'm sorry for choosing complicated ones.

There's a group of us on Twitter that decided that over the summer we were going to reread some of the series and talk about them. We read 4 a week for the whole summer (including the prequel and GNs), so we made it to number 31. We're going to continue each break we have :) It has been so much fun to reread them!

What did you think, Amy? I love Nancy Werlin, and I adored this book. The cover is stunning.

It really is a blast! You notice such different things when you are an adult and a teacher than when you were a middle schooler. Ann M. Martin really touches on some deep things and does book shout-outs throughout the series- I even started a list: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/11...

Extra 1.20 Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (288 pages) 8/7/2011

Older post explanations:
I read Wither for the WT Top Novels List task and I am actually quite surprised that it was already on the list. It is a very good book and I gave it 5 stars and it deserves it, but I found it interesting that someone would choose to put Wither on the list over other YA novels, specifically some other dystopian ones.
Kristen gave Foiled 5 stars, so I read it for that task. I also gave it 5 stars, because it is such a unique, fun graphic novel.
I read Peace, Locomotion which is a nominee for my state award. I can definitely tell why it was nominated, but I found it weird that Florida nominated Peace, Locomotion when it is a companion to another novel; so, I don’t think it’ll win this student choice award because I think some students will find it confusing and hard to understand without reading the first novel.
For the National Book Award task, I am reading the nominee and winner from 2006. Sold by Patricia McCormick is a special book. She took on a topic that is so terrifying, but did it with respect and truth.

Welcome to the board, Ann. Your point total is 52 since you got 2 points for the 2nd 4.10 task (Juvi titles are okay for most of the challenges). Don't forget to include your author names when you post for points. It makes it much quicker and easier for Kristen and I to keep track if we don't have to look those up. Happy Reading!
