What Are You Reading Now?
I'm reading The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals. It's really interesting and I'm learning so much from it.
I'm reading Royal Pains: A Rogues' Gallery of Brats, Brutes, and Bad Seeds. I love these sort of historically based collections of personages and their little tidbits. It's more based on fact than the typical book with more myths than anything based on truth.
Rereading A Storm of Swords as part of my ASoIaF reread in prep for the 5th book coming out in July. (So I can say A Game of Thrones is def worth reading!) Also reading Cheap: The High Cost of Discount Culture, which is pretty fascinating since I've always been a bargain hunter.
I'm reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. I've had it since it first came out and haven't been able to get into it enough to finish it.
Tammy wrote: "I'm reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. Maybe we can read it in the book club sometime so I can be motivated to read it haha
I'm reading Tender Morsels and while the magic used is interesting, I'm getting bored with how long this book is taking to get anywhere.
I just finished Chronicle of a Death Foretold. And I don't know what to read next. I was thinking I, Claudius but I think I'll just go with something light.
I'm reading Covered Wagon Women: Diaries and Letters from the Western Trails, 1840-1849 but honestly, it is really hard to get through. I think it's cool that they tried to keep the letters as close to their original form as possible, but that means a lot of struggling through some confusing grammar and difficult sentence structure.
I'm readin (and loving) American on Purpose by Craig Ferguson. It's really interesting, especially the parts about his addiction, and is making me like him even more.
I'm reading A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan since it's being toted everywhere and I joined the goodreads challenge, so it'll motivate me to finally finish the book.
nothing! thats why i'm happy about this book club haha. i bought a kindle 3 months ago and have only read one book :(
I'm always reading multiple books, but I just started The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Just finished A Game of Thrones this week!
ooh i'm currently reading Ptolemy's Gate by jonathan stroud. i started the series when i was younger but never got round to finishing it. i think this is the last book. they're quite fun. :D
I'm reading A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan for the Goodreads Book Club Challenge. I'm also reading Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh in a mini-book-club with a couple of my friends. Really enjoying both!
Reading A Clash of Kings right now! I guess I have two more to go to read before the next one comes out :D
I just started reading A Game of Thrones! Finished Bossypants last night, and I would recommend it if you're a fan of Tina Fey.
I always have tons of books going at once. But right now my main books are The Mists of Avalon and Fire and Rain: The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, CSNY, and the Lost Story of 1970:)
I'm reading a couple of books at once. I've just started Mary Roach's Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex and have been plugging away two others during my lunch breaks at work: Michelle Moran's Madame Toussad and Mitchell Symons' Where Do Nudists Keep Their Hankies?. The latter is interesting, but not particularly good.
Finishing off the Vampire Academy series Last Sacrifice. Almost done with it, next up is Dead Reckoning. Hoping it's better than the last one.
I'm a little over halfway (58%) through The Hangman's Daughter and I love it so far (though I have yet to discover the reason behind the title).

Dead in the Family wasn't good? I still need to read that one, and the bad thing is that I have a physical copy that I bought months ago and forgot about.

Megan wrote: "Dead in the Family wasn't good? I still need to read that one, and the bad thing is that I have a physical copy that I bought months ago and forgot about. "It was just ok in my opinion. I wouldn't not read it, but it could have been much better.
Carissa wrote: "I'm a little over halfway (58%) through The Hangman's Daughter and I love it so far (though I have yet to discover the reason behind the title)."I always love the "aha!" moment when you figure out why a book is titled the way it is, haha.
I've just started Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I'm trying not to expect too much out of it because I really love the premise and I don't want to be disappointed, hah.
Anna wrote: "I've just started Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I'm trying not to expect too much out of it because I really love the premise and I don't want to be disappointed, hah."Some people find JS&MN hard going, but I absolutely ADORED it. A totally magical book. Enjoy!
Stephanie wrote: "Oh, and I just read The Handmaid's Tale and Thirteen Reasons Why."What did you think of The Handmaid's Tale?
I've moved onto A Storm of Swords. After I wiki'd how many pages it was, I was like dang, this is gonna be a daunting task!
Katie wrote: "Stephanie wrote: "Oh, and I just read The Handmaid's Tale and Thirteen Reasons Why."What did you think of The Handmaid's Tale?"
I really liked it, but I thought it ended a little too...abruptly, I guess. So many unanswered questions!

Atwood isn't really a big fan of wrapping things into nice packages, honestly. The way this ended actually reminded me of The Giver, not knowing if the character is finding salvation or death.

After I read The Handmaid's Tale, I kind of had the same feeling, but when I got to thinking about it, I came to appreciate the ending more. I like filling in the blanks myself...though I wouldn't be opposed to some closure, either. :)
Right now, I'm reading When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman. I'm halfway through it right now and I love it!
I'm reading Zombie Spaceship Wasteland. I'm really enjoying it. I have decided that I'm a spaceship then zombie person.
I'm reading The Post-Birthday World and The Emperor of All Maladies this week. Both are really good so far.
I decided that I needed to spice up my blog so I'm reading Drought by Pam Bachorz despite it's less than raving reviews. IDGI so far...
Random, slightly off-topic question, but are there any books right now in YA that are NOT first person present tense? This is a question from me the reader and me the writer, because I love third person past tense and can't really stand writing OR reading when the character is describing the boring crap going on in their lives in real time.
I'm brushing my teeth. I'm fixing my hair. Oh, look, a butterfly. I'm running after it. The end.

I just downloaded that today actually because it had good reviews from some of my friends. I might read that next. I'm just tired of first person present tense - it's so grating, and it seems to be the tense of choice for YA.

I just finished Drought and I got tired of the narrator by page 10. For being 200 years old, I got the impression she was 12 more often than not, and by page 100 I was beginning to think that I needed to shoot myself in the head because the narrator was taking over my mind and putting stupid thoughts about 200 years in slavery waiting for some Jesus-like guy named Otto to show up.
I'll stick to third person past tense for writing I think...

Right now I'm reading Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. I picked it up at the thrift shop last month. I usually don't read "chick-lit" that much, but I figured I needed an easy breezy read for the start of the summer.
I've been working my way through the Pretty Little Liars series by Sara Shepard, but I have a bunch of books to go pick up from the library so I'll probably start tackling those as soon as I finish the one I'm on. But the series is equally as addicting as the tv show. I'm glad there are some differences though.

I kind of feel bad suggesting Embassytown since I'm reading that now and I'm a cheater. I love China Mieville, I do indeed, but this book is confusing and I can't really understand parts of it. I have a Masters degree and fancy myself as well read, but he uses words I don't know constantly.
How about everyone else?
