"my favourite wuxia story/pairing. my Chinese isn't nearly solid enough to read wuxia novels but paired with a dictionary and my immense familiarity of this story (I have watched the '95 version countless times growing up), hopefully that will be enough to allow me to tackle this. i've owned this series for years now. maybe 2025 will be the year - it's going to take a lot of work." Hanya Yanagihara
“...things get broken, and sometimes they get repaired, and in most cases, you realize that no matter what gets damaged, life rearranges itself to compensate for your loss, sometimes wonderfully.”
Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life

Arundhati Roy
“That's what careless words do. They make people love you a little less.”
Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things

James Baldwin
“Life is tragic simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time. Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, the only fact we have. It seems to me that one ought to rejoice in the fact of death--ought to decide, indeed, to earn one's death by confronting with passion the conundrum of life. One is responsible for life: It is the small beacon in that terrifying darkness from which we come and to which we shall return.”
James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time

Virginia Woolf
“I am rooted, but I flow.”
Virginia Woolf

Catherynne M. Valente
“I will not let her speak because I love her, and when you love someone, you do not make them tell war stories. A war story is a black space. On the one side is before and on the other side is after, and what is inside belongs only to the dead.”
Catherynne M. Valente, Deathless
