ooh how is 1Q84? I've always wanted to read a Haruki Murakami novel.

message 102: by Marie (new)

Marie (fyeahmarie) | 125 comments I'm currently in the middle of five books:

1Q84
Lord of Chaos (part of the Wheel of Time series)
Rules of Civility
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Never Let Me Go

These were all started during a particularly restless period when I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to read. I plan on finishing them all, but I'm currently engrossed in the WoT series.

message 103: by Katie (new)

Katie (kmvane) I'm also in the middle of five or so books: Katherine by Anya Seton, The Forever Queen by Helen Hollick, The Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor, An Unlikely Disciple by Kevin Roose, and The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta. I'm mainly focusing on the last two right now, even though they are all really good. I've got one going on my Kindle, and one as an audiobook for my commute to work.

message 104: by Emy (new)

Emy (emy0lee) | 92 comments I'm also juggling several books at the same time: 1Q84 which I'm having a really hard time getting into, The English Patient that I read on my computer before going to bed, and The Catcher in the Rye that I'm listening to as an audiobook.

message 105: by Antonia (new)

Antonia Carlotta (antoniacarlotta) Like those above, I'm reading a few books at a time.

1. The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court
2. The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals
3. The Fault in Our Stars
4. Ellen Degeneres: The Funny Thing Is...

I pretty much switch between the books depending on my mood.

message 106: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) In the middle of "In The Woods" by Tana French.

message 107: by Nicci (new)

Nicci B (niccibee) | 9 comments I'm currently taking time out from Sci-Fi/Supernatural/Zombie apocalypse stuff and reading Jude The Obscure by Thomas Hardy - because it was recc'd to me on ONTD!

message 108: by Aaliya (new)

Aaliya | 11 comments Currently reading The Remains of the Day. Will reward myself with the film when I manage to finish the book. Not enjoying it so far.

message 109: by Aaliya (new)

Aaliya | 11 comments I take it all back. The remains of the day definitely improved after a dull opening.

Now I'm reading Tomorrow, When The War Brgan (John Marsden), which is another YA novel but I absolutely loved the film, and the premise (teenagers go camping for a week, return to find their country under siege; engage in guerilla warfare).

How are you finding The Fault in Our Stars?

Great description. I love the book, but everyone is bat shit crazy.

Finished it a couple of days ago. I actually found Levin's story much more interesting than Anna's, which was kind of predictable. It's a very complex and multi-layered novel which means that when I have the time I'll have to reread it in order to analyse it properly.

Right now I'm in the middle of The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. It's beautifully written, IMO.

message 114: by Dream of the Archer (last edited Aug 27, 2012 10:59AM) (new)

Dream of the Archer (dreamofthearcher) Currently reading The Orphan Master by Jean Zimmerman. It's historical fiction/mystery set during the 1660's in what is now Manhattan. You can tell she really took her time researching what life was like there. I love the way she folds in humor and quirks. If you aren't paying close attention you may miss it. It works surprisingly well with her writing style.

Marie (fyeahmarie) | 125 comments Paradise Lost
Dealing with Dragons

Still getting over His Dark Materials...can't wait to re-read it when my books arrive from the UK

message 116: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) The very first Sweet Valley High book. It's awful, but I kind of love it.

I miss that series. I grew up with the Wakefield twins so I read SV Middle, then SVH.

That is one of my favourite films. One of the few that can make me cry.

Currently in the middle of Nightmare Town, a collection of short stories by Dashiell Hammett. It's pretty good. I love reading about shady people in the old days.

Alongside P&P probably the best of the chick lit genre.

Meh. I'm not a big fan of P&P.
Jane Eyre is so far pretty good, but it has some things that bother me. But on the other hand, I need to remember that those were different times...

message 123: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) My currently reading list is crazy right now. I'm trying to decide between starting the 3rd book in a 7 book series or the 4th in a 15+ one... Decisions.

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading Beautiful Darkness. I have about a hundred pages left. I had a hard time explaining the books to my friend.

message 125: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) I finished that one a few weeks ago. I wasn't going to keep going with the series, but then ending was pretty good!! Let me know when you start the 3rd and I'll read along with you. :)

Oh sorry, I already read the third, because I accidentally read it without realizing it was the third book. But I'll read it again. Let me see when I can get it from the library.

And you were talking to me right? Lol.

Haha that does sound weird. I have the book on hold at the library, I should be able to get it Friday. I'm excited to read it again after reading the second book. Because I read book one then book three last time.

I read some random chick lit series out of order and was so confused for about 100 pages. Derp.

message 130: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) I just finished Hemlock Grove. It was not worth the energy to read.

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading the Vampire Diaries. I keep forgetting to get Beautiful Chaos again! Just go ahead and read it without me.

I'm not in any rush to read it. If I start it, I'll eventually remember to tell you. :D
