Francesca (oedipa_drake) Just started Divergent, only a few pages but it sounds very promising.

It's in my to-read list as well, but I read both good and bad reviews, so I've mixed feelings...

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Personally I'd say if you have other books queued up that seem interesting I'd tackle them instead of Bowl of Heaven. The book was just okay in my opinion and I didn't know going into it that it was going to be the first of a series, trilogy, etc. To be honest it didn't end very well either and if it hadn't included a line of "to be continued in ...." I would have thought they'd left some pages out in my copy.

Banner | 138 comments Beezlebug, thanks for the heads up. I really like Larry Niven. But I may wait till the second one comes out. I bet publishers hate to hear that.

Sérgio | 74 comments The Demolished Man

I'm enjoying it so far. Nice to read about protagonists who are completely amoral.

message 1006: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I'm not reading any Scifi at the moment, but I am reading The Skystone, All Together Dead, and The Lies of Locke Lamora.

How was The Last Policeman? I was thinking of getting it? Is it worth it?

message 1008: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments I'm reading the Liveship Traders, but making a side read of the Fionavar Tapestry, both I only have the last two books.

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Ruth wrote: "How was The Last Policeman? I was thinking of getting it? Is it worth it?."

Yes, I think it would be worth your time. I thought it was well written and had a good balance between the main plot of the murder investigation and the subplot concerning the asteroid. I will warn you that the ending wraps up the investigation but sets it up for a sequel. I think I read somewhere the author is planning a trilogy (don't they all nowdays it seems?).

message 1010: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 70 comments Thanks. I think I'll get it because it did sound interesting but I have a few other books to read first, one of them being The Twelve which is part of a trilogy. lol.

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Ruth wrote: "Thanks. I think I'll get it because it did sound interesting but I have a few other books to read first, one of them being The Twelve which is part of a trilogy. lol."

Well, defintely read the The Twelve sooner rather than later if you liked The Passage. I liked it just as much as The Passage. I will say though, without giving any spoilers away, that I thought he wrapped up a key part of the overall story waaaay too quickly in this one. It was almost kind of a letdown. It'll be interesting to see where he takes the third book.

message 1012: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 70 comments I have to wait until my mother finishes it. I gave it to her to read first because I had a couple of library books to finish first.

message 1013: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments Finished A Drink Before the War. What an excellent book. Lehane's writing is fantastic.

Now I'm reading Every Dead Thing.

Love Lehane. I have read most of his books. I like the fact that the city of Boston is almost another character.

message 1015: by Baffi (new)

Baffi I've just started Old Man's War today, and I hope it's as great as everybody keeps telling me.

message 1016: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments Finished Every Dead Thing. Now onto Fool.

message 1017: by E A M Harris (new)

E A M Harris | 32 comments Just finished reading Stephen Hunt's Secrets of the Fire Sea. Great story. I can recommend it.

message 1018: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments I finished Fool. It was hysterical. I only have two more of Moore's books to read.

Now I'm reading Rage.

I just downloaded The Quantum Thief to read with the group here!

message 1020: by LindaJ^ (new)

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 260 comments Just finished The Twelve by Justin Cronin and Falling Free by Lois McMaster Bujold and started The Sense of Ending by Julian Barnes. Still working on The Gateway Trip (bought by mistake, instead of The Gateway). I also downloaded The Quantum Thief to Kindle -- it will be the first time I'll be reading the group choice in the proper month!

message 1021: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 70 comments I'm on vacation this week so hope to get some reading done. Hope to start "The Last Policeman" tomorrow and then "The Twelve".

message 1022: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Mccafferty | 13 comments I've just gone back to my sci-fi roots. I'm re-reading Heinlein's The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag.

Sérgio | 74 comments Neuromancer

I'm enjoying it but it seems a bit like PK Dick- light to me.

message 1026: by Scott (new)

Scott Reading Incarceron. It feels like a fantasy but it has a lot of high technology in it.

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Mathieu wrote: "Beezlebug wrote: "The Hydrogen Sonata"

I liked it quite a bit. I thought it was on par with his other recent Culture novels if not better.

Nice! The hardcover is beautiful and it's eyeing me everytime I go to the bookstore!

I read this years ago. I can remember that I didn't much like it, but can't recall details of the story. Hope you enjoy it.

message 1031: by Jenny (last edited Dec 02, 2012 10:04AM) (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I'm finishing up Magic Burns (I'll probably be done today) and I'm listening to From Dead to Worse on audio.

message 1032: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Evans | 1 comments The Hydrogen Sonata by Banks and Strings on a Shadow Puppet, but latter is not released yet

message 1033: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I've started The Quantum Thief and I think it's going to be a quick read because I'm really enjoying it. Plus reading helps me procrastinate writing my final papers.

message 1034: by Scott (last edited Dec 10, 2012 04:53AM) (new)

Scott | 130 comments I finished Rage and I started Killing Floor. Even though this is the first in the series, it is not the first Reacher book that I've read.

message 1035: by Adam (new)

Adam Howell | 2 comments I've just finished reading Breakfast of Champions. Not sure what I'll read next but as I've been going through a number of Kurt Vonnegut novels I might just keep going 'till I've read them all.

Starting Revelation space
Revelation Space (Revelation Space, #1) by Alastair Reynolds

let's see if it lives up to the hype!

I hated it my first time through it but loved it and the rest of the series the second time.

So far it's been nonsensical fun. Not what I expected but I'm really enjoying it.

I'm presently in the middle of both Woman on the Edge of Time and The Player of Games.

Scott | 130 comments I finished Killing Floor and now I'm reading Too Many Curses.

message 1041: by Zac (new)

Zac | 41 comments I just started Revelation Space myself, Mathieu. About 100 pages in. Nothing really happening yet of note, but I'm intrigued.

message 1042: by Harkonen (new)

Harkonen | 6 comments I'm reading The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi and Ganymede by Cherie Priest.

message 1043: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments Finished Too Many Curses. I really enjoy A. Lee Martinez's books. The ones I've read so far have been excellent.

Now I'm reading The New World which will lead into The Knife of Never Letting Go. I want to see if the are appropriate for my kids to read.

message 1044: by Thomas (new)

Thomas | 1 comments Just Finished Second Foundation, and will be starting on The Gunslinger next.

message 1045: by Sérgio (new)

Sérgio | 74 comments Fiasco by Stanisław Lem.

So far it's been hard as diamond SF. Fortunately Lem not only can think like an engineer or a scientist but also like a philosopher, so his writing's interesting.

message 1046: by Chris (new)

Chris (timberwolfblues) I thought it was a pretty good book. I am currently on the third of the series, Absolution Gap. Revelation Space was a very strange read for me. It took me about halfway through the book to even figure out what was really going on. It was confusing at first but overall I think it's a good book and a good series. The Shrouders and the Jugglers all were very mysterious and kept me reading to find out what was going to happen.

message 1047: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments I started Monster Hunter International over the holiday. I haven't gotten very far but I'm really enjoying it.

message 1048: by Chris (new)

Chris (timberwolfblues) Monster Hunter International is an outstanding series. I'm very eager to read the next three.

message 1049: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments A lot of people are saying that the whole series is great.

message 1050: by Dennis (new)

Dennis | 15 comments Just finished all the books in Poul Anderson's tecnic civilization saga. What a trip! This was the first time that I've read every story and every novel in that epic. I downloaded the whole series from Amazon to my kindle. Any other fans of Nicholas Van Rijn , David Falkayn and Doinic Flandry?
