I was the opposite of you Michael. I couldn't stomach the movie Precious, but loved Push. Push was more real and gritty than the movie. I feel that the movie cut out what the book was really about. It was about the struggle of this girl to be better than she was and it was reflected better in the book because of the writing style and the word choices. You didn't get all of that from the movie, at least not for me.

Rachel | 310 comments I felt the way the book was written, with all the spelling and grammar mistakes, bogged down the story. The movie removed that gimmick/roadblock for me.

Ted Magnuson (tedmagnuson) | 7 comments 11/22/63 by Stephen King; A very heavy book, some 700 pages long. Not exclusively about the assassination...involves time travel and alternate history. Overwhelming question on finishing the book:
Where does the Yellow Card man come from and what duties do his employers expect him to do?

April (apriltara) | 11 comments I'm finally getting around to reading the Hunger Games trilogy, just started Catching Fire last night so I'll probably be done with the whole trilogy by the end of the week. Not sure what I'm going to read after that. Has anyone read 1Q84 yet? I'm leaning towards that one or The Secret Holocaust Diaries: The Untold Story of Nonna Bannister.

The grammar I can overlook cause I understood the author`s intention, but I did not care about precious at all. I know that was a hurting child, but she was not someone that I can sympathize with. In the movie, I felt the connection between precious and her school teacher. In contrast,in the book, I did not feel any connection, cause it was lazy writings and inconsistent to me.

I think I went into the book with too high of expectations and ended up thinking that it was just okay. Most of my friends who've read it gave 4 or 5 stars. I stuck with 3.

tiasreads I just finished Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor. It was a fun and fast read. A lot of Jane Austen fan fiction just plain stinks, but I'm not too much of a Jane purist to enjoy well-written fan fiction. Can't wait for the next one!

I also finished Night Road, which was intense, but good. I can't decide what to read next, possibly The Wedding Dress.

Randy Taraborrelli Once Upon a Time: Behind the Fairy Tale of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier where the connection between the two is obvious. I find I'm also drawn to start Fellow Travelers Fellow Travelers by Thomas Mallon which if I recall what I read about it correctly is also about the 1950s. Hoping to make some headway into that tonight so we'll see.

I loved "Valley of the Dolls" when I read it years ago. There is also a movie if you're interested. There is also a sequel to Valley, something with Sparrows in the title. It was pretty good too but not as good as Valley imo.

Paula | 1098 comments It was "Shadow of the Dolls" Jacqueline Susann's Shadow of the Dolls by Rae Lawrence (I knew it had an "S" in the title) LOL and I thought it was pretty good. Susann had started the draft for it before she died and this Rae (I forget her last name now) finished it. I liked that it told us what happened to the characters later in life.

When you can't seem to stop reading and all the things you need to accomplish seem not nearly as important as sitting and reading "that book," then it certainly deserves a high rating. This did that for me. Loved it.

Hunger Games, in my opinion, is a very good read. I agree that sometimes the book is barely out and they make a movie of it. In this case though I am really thrilled that they are doing a movie. I wonder how they will capture some of the moments though because the words are, in my humble opinion, what makes this book so great. The depth that a book can give that a movie simply can not.

Yuliya (yuliyalovestoread) | 1685 comments Books are always better then movies, because they can't how you say, can't capture some of the moments though because the words in the books are. But I think it possible to do great movie based on this book. The book thief is also great book. It's hard to read sometimes, but later it haunting you for a long time and you keep coming back in your thoughts to this book again and again

Will be reading Manhattan is My Beat by Jeffrey Deaver. This is book 1 of his earlier series. I think there were only 3 books in this series.
