Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments I had about 150 lol

message 202: by Shaina (new)

Shaina (shainaeg) I have around 90 after almost 3 years of them building up. I guess I should just be happy I've read more than I have in my TBR list. The 100 discounted books every month have been killer for my TBR list as have all of the free and super cheap books.

message 203: by Char (new)

Char A bunch of free books lately has now brought my TBR to 72 plus 16 short story collections.
But after reading some of your posts (325, really?),
I don't feel so bad!

message 204: by Ginger (new)

Ginger I have over 400! I can't seem to stop myself from downloading freebies that interest me. I also love the chance to read authors who are new to me. Some I have downloaded at a cheap price because I either love the author or simply can't afford the full price. It's an addiction, but I look at it like this: There are WAY WORSE addictions (and costly!) out there & this doesn't hurt my family or my life. :)

Dorie (dorieann) I have 28, which is actually pretty bad when you think I've only had my Kindle less than 3 weeks. I also have a Nook and made the mistake of downloading every free and discounted book that looked like something I might read. I now have over 500 books on that account. I went through the other night and archived all but the ones I knew I wanted to read in the next year. So I've resolved not to make the same mistake on the Kindle. The ones I have though are ones that were fairly inexpensive and ones I really want to read, but I'm not buying more until I read the ones that I have. It's far too easy to "collect" ebooks.

message 207: by Karen (new)

Karen | 4 comments Dorie, you are so right. I have about 350 TBR books on my Kindle and it's all because of the freebies that I find that sound so good. I guess I want to read almost everything! I think I need to be more discriminating. :-)

message 208: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) Definitely me too, Karen. We just have to learn to restrain ourselves, LOL. When it comes to books though, it's very difficult!

message 209: by Ginger (new)

Ginger Dorie & Karen, I agree! It's so hard to restrain ourselves!! I don't download all the freebies, but I will download those which really interest me. I love finding new authors/series & what better way to do it?? I'm also trying to read some classics (which I never did in school~~some 20 yrs ago!) and I'm glad they're free. I cringe to think how much money I would've spent if I'd paid full price for freebies! I've had my Kindle since late 2008. YIKES!!! LOL

Right on Dorie. I just archived a ton of books on my Kindle so that the ones I truly want to read don't get lost in the mess.

message 211: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I used to only have one or two on my Kindle. Then I made the mistake of signing up for an email that lists all the free books. I can't help myself and I probably have 80 - 90 right now. I only read that many in a year so I am already behind the 8 ball. My Goodreads TBR list is well over 400 but that includes the freebies I have downloaded.

Good grief. I hope you copied and pasted that list. I hate to think that you typed the whole list just to share with us.

message 215: by Helen (new)

Helen Anthony, waterstones trained me to buy in 3s to take up offers so I guess I always buy in groups. Plus you see one then another.. I've just got to early 90s.

message 216: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 101 comments And I thought 11 was stretching it a little!

But yes, I buy in batches and then read, trouble is I'm not reading too much at the moment, I've been a little busy.

message 217: by Mary (last edited Jan 15, 2012 10:52PM) (new)

Mary (mary_kontrary) I like having a lot of books on my Kindle, but it can make it hard to find a specific title. I've been trying to remember to archive a book after I've read it to keep the clutter down as much as possible. It's great to have a lot of choices, though, when I don't really know what I want to read. Like going to the library or a huge bookstore & just wandering through the aisles, picking up a book, looking at the first few pages, putting it down, picking up some other book and doing the same until I find one that is exactly right. I figure I have about 50 active books, many free but a lot 99 cent up to $2.99 books. Another 50 or so (not all of them have been read) are in the archived folder.

Kristine (fezabel) (fezabel) | 4 comments All of them! ;)

Seriously. If I don't want to read the book right now or have already finished it with no desire to reread it soon, then I move it to my archive.

message 220: by Erin (new)

Erin Germain (demiguise) | 58 comments I automatically sort books into folders when I download them - basic genres and a TBR folder. When I go to start a new book, it comes out of the TBR folder and goes into a Currently Reading one, then finished books are simply stored by genre. Since I add new books at roughly the same rate that I read, my TBR folder hovers around 95-100 at any given time.

message 221: by Lisi (new)

Lisi (toyonomikoto) | 1 comments Well, I have my Kindle since Oktober and so there are now 15 books which I have to read on my Kindle. But I have very much books in physical copies in my shelfs, so right now I have to read 201 books.

But only 15 on my Kindle so far, because I don't like to have so many on it, that I can't find the books I wanna read.

message 222: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Jaffe | 9 comments I usually have around 20. Most are samples, so I don't actually buy the books until I've picked it to read. And sometimes I forget why I got the sample in the first place, so it can be fun rediscovering a book.

Me, too. Either from Amazon or Project Gutenburg, as well as a bunch from the Baen free library (not classics, but free none the less). I believe my TBR list has grown to 240, give or take. Good thing for Collections, or it would be a mess!

message 229: by Devlin (new)

Devlin Scott (devlin_scott) | 3 comments I received my Kindle in Oct. 2010. Since then I've read 188 books and 222 short stories, novellas and plays.

TBR: 300 (so far) :D

message 230: by Faith (new)

Faith McKay (faithmckay) Around 200. A good chunk of them are short stories, and others are free. I guess some people don't really read through the free ones, but I do. I usually open them up, read through at least the first chapter, and if it hasn't gotten my attention I get rid of it. It's nice to have enough stories on there to always know I have something to read, in any mood!

message 231: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 4 comments All of them. I move Kindle books to my archive as soon as I've read them, so everything still on the kindle is TBR.

Currently I have 111 TBR on Kindle, not including the ones I'm currently working on. I have about the same number of TBR books on my physical bookshelves.

I'm working on getting the number down -- haven't bought any new books in a month. I'm determined to stop buying books until I read what I have.

message 237: by M. (new)

M. Myers (mruth) | 17 comments I feel like a piker. I only have four unread, plus probably twice that many samples. I'd go batty flipping through too many titles hunting for the one I want. I have trouble letting go of the ones I've read, though, even to archive them.

message 238: by Char (new)

Char Holy cow, Fiona!
Since I posted on 1.18.12 when I was at 60 TBR and 15 short story anthologies, I have gone nowhere but up!

I'm the same. I'd posted that I had about 90 books on Feb 6th, now just over a week later I now have 119 novels on my kindle to be read and that's not counting all the short stories and fan fic stories I have on it too. I think I definitely have an addiction... lol :P
