Hello, JAC! This doesn't surprise me! Way, WAY back in the day I used to have a humor site called The Society for Preventing Parents from Naming Their Children Jennifer (just to make sure no one is offended, I *do* like my name, there were just SO MANY Jennifers)... it started after an email list I was on had 5 Jennifers... ;) Turned out a lot of people thought that was funny and liked the site. :)

Thank you very much for the tip on the reviewers' threads - I appreciate it. :)

Jeanine (truejourney) | 35 comments Hey guys, my name is Jeanine and I am new to this group. Some of you already know me because I've been talking your ears off... Can I actually say that since you've not heard my voice???
I had to get in on this acronym convo.
I use, lol (laugh out loud) because I usually am laughing-out-loud! lol
Phil, I still do not know what "imo" and "rofl" means... So don't feel so bad :)

IMHO : in my humble opinion.
ROFL: rolling on floor laughing.

Here's a good one for acknowledging that what you have stated is only your opinion, YMMV. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks, Splitter, that helps. My daughter did send me some, but I got the impression they were designed for senior citizens:
BFF: Best Friend Fainted;
BYOT: Bring Your Own Teeth;
CGU: Can't Get Up;
DWI: Drive While Incontinent;
FWIW: Forgot Where I Was;
IMHO: Is My Hearing-aid On?
TTYL: Talk To You Louder;
WWNO: Walker Wheels Need Oil.

There's more if anyone needs them.

C.S. Splitter | 979 comments FTW: for the win

Now, there IS some controversy about what the letter "F" actually sands for because, legend has it, that the original use was saying "screw the world"...so to speak.

Woot!: Again controversial. I think most of us believe it came into being when people playing fantasy RPG's combined "Woohoo" and "Loot!"

pwned: BIG in the gaming community. The original was "owned" as in "I just owned you." As in, you just got dominated. "O" and "P" are right next to each other so, obviously, some excited victor mistyped and now it had become a common, intentional misuse.

WTH?: what the hell? A nice way of asking, "WTF?"

Hey, it's the internet.

Now, one thing I find...heartening...is that use of such abbreviations and acronyms is discouraged on some writing forums. They still sneak in, and that's not a bad thing, but I cringe when I read things like, "OMG, WTF? LAMO, that was good."

That's how I should introduce myself - my name's Anne-Mhairi and I go by Anne-Mhairi or AM. And hunt down with axes and confetti those who call me Anne.

hahahah, I've pretty much given up on mine. I'm Sarah, with an "h" and I get really pissy when you lose my "h" because I'm very attached to it but I had to give up the axes. The US Justice Dept frowns on international crime at that level *haha*

Phil, you have NO idea how deep I had to delve into my memory banks for those references. My brain hurts now.

Hey all, sorry if this is the wrong place but I do not see an, "introduce yourselves thread." Been a lurker for awhile and decided to finally speak up.

No books published yet, but working on one and I love to read. Currently reading 'The Reluctant' by CS Splitter.

I will say Splitter that I see FML replacing FTW a lot in text. FML = screw my life, when something bad or inane happens.

That is it, just wanted to say hello, so.... howdy.

How you like Splitter's book? Doesn't it rock??

message 696: by [deleted user] (new)

I am sorry to say I have only read 2 chapters so far. I am almost finished with my book, about 75% and that takes up much of my time. I do look forward to finishing his. So far it is great and I have no doubt it will continue that way. I will say he has the patience of a saint. I have been pestering him on another board for about a month and a half with all those silly questions first time writers have. It was good for me to meet someone who had written a book and then he suggested this place to come to also. It was a good suggestion and I am glad he made it. It is nice to meet all of you.
