Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Oh, I'm dying to read Miss Peregrine, too! And I really enjoyed The Season, Mandi, I hope you do, too.

I read Fallen (Georgia, #3) by Karin Slaughter (not YA) last night, which was great, and I just started Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer # 1) by Melanie Card . It seems fun so far, although it seems to skew a little older. It's marketed as upper YA/adult.

I really liked Cam's book, so if there are others that are better I'm really looking forward to them.

Me too, I was pleasantly suprised. It's was nice to read a lighter paranormal book.

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Finished Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer # 1) by Melanie Card , which was super fun! And I've been peer-pressured into reading Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick next as sort of a buddy read. I'm hoping my non zombie-lover friends are going to forgive me for filling up their feeds with yet another one.

message 9713: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine (truejourney) | 120 comments Ugh.. I am reading Tantalize (Tantalize, #1) by Cynthia Leitich Smith and I am having a hard time getting into it... Please, someone tell me this book gets better. If it gets worse, end my misery and tell me to stop reading :)

message 9714: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Stop reading, Jeanine!

Hah, well...it wasn't awful in my opinion, there just wasn't much to it. Some people did seem to like it, though.

message 9715: by Julie (new)

Julie The girl on the cover reminds me of Taylor Swift, everytime I see it "Taylor Swift!" pops into my head! I'm not even that big of a fan of her.

It really is a hard book to get into... I don't think I am going to finish it. There are just too many good books out there to be spending my time reading one that can't keep my attention :) Good thing I checked it out at the library instead of buying it.

Agreed. :) Sometimes I keep reading for the sake of a review or if I'm so incredulous at how bad it is *cough*FURY*cough* but I've been trying to be better about just moving on if books aren't working for me. Too many good ones to get to!

Does it ever get better between Quince and... OMG, I forgot the love interests name. That just proves how hard it is for me to get into this book. lol

From what I remember, not really. As so often happens with these series, the author seemed to be saving it for the sequels. Which I did not read. :D

message 9724: by Sue (new)

Sue Tint (suetintlovesindies) | 15 comments I'm almost done with This Side of the Grave and really don't know what to read next! What should I read everyone? I have Ultraviolet, My Blood Approves, and Anna and the French Kiss as the top 3 on my TBR list. What should I read??

WTF Are You Reading? | 64 comments I wasn't sure about the Sweep series, but I have read Book of Shadows (Wicca, #1) by Cate Tiernan The Coven (Wicca, #2) by Cate Tiernan and am currently reading Blood Witch (Wicca, #3) by Cate Tiernan I can't seem to get enough!

I vote that you read Ultrviolet

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I started Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver on audiobook. The narrator is good so far. (view spoiler)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Oh and because I am the gossip fairy did any of you read the Slate article that made YA sound completely stupid?

http://www.slate.com/id/2296056/

I love Jenna Lamia! I think you are supposed to dislike the person you are referring to at first (I never really grew to like her). I had some major issues with the book by the end so I am excited to discuss it with you once you are done!

That was annoying. They're pretty much saying, "We don't like YA because it's trash but we'll write it because we can make easy money off our easy-to-please readers. By easy-to-please, we mean stupid."

There is some bad YA, but there is some really great stuff out there, too.

I know I'm suppose to hate her. I just hope the hatred eases some.

Glad everyone else thought the article was stupid. I actually had trouble reading it--not because I was mad, but because it was just dumb & hard to take seriously. 4YA reviewed their book today--let's just say they didn't like it much (and they'd written review before the Slate article)

I felt the same way, kind of insulted as a huge fan of YA. Frustrating!

message 9737: by Heather (new)

Heather McCorkle (heathermccorkle) I just started reading Possession by Elana Johnson and am loving it. But then, I'm a huge fan of dystopian! Anyone else reading it, or planning to? Possession by Elana Johnson

message 9738: by Jen (new)

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 242 comments that article was annoying. I'm making sure I don't ever read anything by them. Condescending much?

It's like they think YA is crap but they will write it anyway. Wow, just wow. I hate when people mess with YA.

Thanks for the article, Cassi

and to think I almost bought a Katie Crouch book last weekend. Scary.

message 9739: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi the hatred only eased somewhat for me!

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Today I finished: Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (Scott Pilgrim, #1) by Bryan Lee O'Malley
In progress I have: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Scott Pilgrim, #2) by Bryan Lee O'Malley An Abundance of Katherines by John Green The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke

I finished The Book Thief by Markus Zusak a couple days ago.

message 9741: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Finished a couple of days ago The Short Death of Phineas Bean (Volume 1) by Daniel A Miller The Gathering (Darkness Rising, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Wasn't as fond of The Gathering as I had hoped to be, I think I should have started with some of this authors other works because I have heard good things about them, but this one was just so so.

Workin through a lot of adult books but haven't settled on a new YA yet.

I checked my to-read list for any books by either of them. It was free of their books, and I'm pretty sure that it will stay that way. There are too many other things other to read.

For instance, I'm currently reading Dark Life Dark Life (Dark Life, #1) by Kat Falls . I don't konw if I will end up liking it, but at least its author was not condescending toward her readers.

It was up either on Netgalley or S&S Galley Grab. Don't remember which one.

message 9745: by Katheryn (new)

Katheryn Exile - a Mercy novel. Book 2. :)

message 9746: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I got it from Netgalley.

message 9747: by Wendy Darling (last edited Jun 25, 2011 11:14AM) (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments I finished Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick last night, which was SO disappointing...the first half was a 5 star book, the last half 1.5 stars. :/

I also read So Over You by Gwen Hayes as a palate cleanser, though, and it was super cute and funny and sweet. :) Oh, plus it's only $1.99 on Amazon right now!

I really enjoy this. Book. I felt it was quiote orginial after so many books jumping on the twilight theme.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Finished Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning quickly, mainly because I did not feel it was appropriate for Girl Scout Camp.

And next week I'll be 100% offline. Got roped into helping with a week of camp and sometimes you just do things you don't want to for your employers. So yeah, that's where I'll be.

I'm taking Princess Academy by Shannon Hale , Plain Kate by Erin Bow , Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride and my Kindle which has a few books on it including Summer's Crossing (Iron Fey, #3.5) by Julie Kagawa , Feed (Newsflesh, #1) by Mira Grant and Shine by Lauren Myracle .

I do not expect to read all of them (obviously, I'll be working way too much) but I have lots of options. Plus I'm on vacation after that. Don't know if I'm going anywhere or not yet (thinking of driving to WV to visit some state parks)

message 9750: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I have started this book, its been in my review pile for a while and needed to get to it. So far its not bad but I am only a couple chapters into it. Otherworld Tales Irish the Demon Slayer by C. T. Markee
