Hey everyone...since Lonesome dove was selected for the Contemp Chunkster, does anyone want to do a Side Read of The Invisible Bridge?

I think if they are paced well I could do both. Then again, I plan on reading the classic too, perhaps I'm overreaching. All the books just looked so amazing!
@Tasha...no fair!! I wanna read it...lol.@Becky, I'm leading Lonesome dove and I may jump into the Classic too, depending on which one wins...I hear you on the overload. I'm planning on reading the books as audio and taking notes on each section so I can contribute to the discussions.
@Zulfiya, Yay! Let's do it!
I said this on another thread but just to make sure I'm counted... I'd be up for doing this as a side read. I've already read Lonesome Dove and discussed it at length in a class so I don't want to read it again.
Ok, I will work up a schedule this week for
So far I have:
Becky
Amber
Ellen
Zulfiya
Kristi
Let em know if you want to be added!
I want to at least try, however, if it turns out that I'm doing too many I may have to bow out at a later point.
I ordered this from the library but it hasn't come in yet. I still want to read it with the group so I'm hoping to just start a little late.
Becky, if you haven't started it yet, I have to say it is awesome!!! I apologize if you are reading it, I'm trying not to look at the thread until I get caught up to where everyone else is...hahaha
I finished We, the Drowned and it was amazing. I've actually read a head a little at this point in The Invisible Bridge. You are right, its breathtaking. I love it.I have to say this group has been excellent for me. I never would have read either of those books since I'm usually indignant about not like modern literature. Its good to be challenged like this to broaden my horizons.
I agree 100%, I read a lot of Contemporary Literture, non-fiction health and business, and classics. Without groups like this I would hardly ever explore other types of books.
Hey, everybody. Will anyone be interested in having side-read or a buddy read with the runner-up novels, namely The Name of the Rose, The Passage, orI Know This Much Is True. I can handle one as a side-read and other as a buddy read, but I can't do all three together - I have some other reads I have to moderate :-) The books are too good to miss a chance to read them.
I have The Passage on my list to read this year, but I probably can't start until at least March due to other reads and travel in Feb ( and also because I'm reading Storm of Swords on my own :-)
So far we have three members who want to read The Name of the Rose? Maybe we will wait for a week, and if no one else wants, then we can have a buddy read? And Jolene, let me know if you want to read the Passage in March; my copy is shouting loudly, 'Read me'!
I may switch to in the name if the rose, I'm sure 1q84 is brilliant but for some reason it's just not capturing my attention at the moment. My brain is just in a reading funk, lol.
My second copy of the novel was borrowed (again) by one of my acquaintances:-) Having lost the hope of regaining it (after all, it turned out that we belong to extremely different political wings), I purchased the third copy. Hopefully, it will be here by the end of this week. I am looking forward to this discussion. BTW, how is going to work from the administrative viewpoint? Shall we ask one of our moderators to lead the discussion or shall we choose among those who want to join or just start a thread, work out a schedule, read, and comment?
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...Looks like the leader is supposed to go here, follow the instructions and post our info. Zulfiya, did you plan to lead? If not, I'm happy to do it.

Michelle, thank you for the link. I plan to read, and I am afraid of the responsibility of moderating because I am already in charge of other read in different groups. I am a very dedicated reader, though, and comment and contribute regularly because I find is so frustrating when people do not comment:-) Just my personal issue:-)
I completely understand! I'm not currently leading any other groups, so if you want to just relax and read this time, I can take charge. Just let me know! :)
Excellent, going tomorrow to the library to exchange books so ill be ready. I'm hoping my coursera.org class reading doesn't interfere too much, but I'm not really reading with any other GR groups currently so I should be fine

I tried to keep the reading for each week between 30-40 pages in the edition I am reading, which is 502 pages. Let me know if this looks okay. I figured I'd give it a week before the start so everyone who wanted to join could get their copy.
Kristi wrote: "I see it and will get the thread posted. Great work Michelle!!"Hey everyone, don't forget to start reading The Name of the Rose this week! Hopefully our thread will be up soon! :)
I have already started. I think you should ask Kristi to give you a permission to start threads in the side-forum folder. I know that some other group member lead the side-reads, so if you ask a permission, it will be totally kosher and convenient:-)
Please forgive me, I was in a class all weekend and didn't have a chance to post the thread. Posting it now.
I see that Gone with the Wind is scheduled to go into December. For Classic Chunkster readers who don't particularly care to read it, that means a long time away from the group. Is there any interest in a side read starting in a few weeks?Buddenbrooks came in tied for second in the last voting, so that's one that there might be some interest in.
If we were interested in nonfiction, Barzun's From Dawn to Decadence might be an interesting read.
I would expect that we would need at least six and preferably eight or more committed readers to have a robust discussion. Any interest in either of these?
I hope that i am doing this right-- i just post here what book i'd like to read and wait to see who wants to join me, yes?I would like to read:
The Terror By Dan Simmons
Anyone care to join me?
Delmy, if you want to find folks who want to read with you, I will encourage you to post in the buddy read thread, right here. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I would have joined you, but I read the book two years ago, and it is a five-star read - gripping, emotional, brutal, and rewarding.
