I read The Count of Monte Cristo earlier this year, and fell a little bit in love with Dumas. The film coming out soon was all the extra push that I needed. :)

Okay, that is seriously on my top 10 favorites of all time. I LOVE that book with a passion. As a matter of fact, I loved it so much that I'm afraid to re-read it, for fear that I will not love it as much the second time (thereby shattering the illusion). LOL.

That is so great to know Loretta! I have had it on my shelf for about 6 months and the only thing putting me off is the size of it :-) Maybe I will just go ahead and post a schedule and then I will have to stick to it :-)

Rosemary, go ahead and post a schedule. We generally keep it to about 50 pages per week, to make the sections managable. PM me when you have it posted and I'll tak a look.

I'm actually really interested in this novel because if I'm not mistaken, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of Michael Chabon's influences; I had to do a huge author project on Garcia Marquez last year, so it'll be interesting to see if I can spot Garcia Marquez's influence in Chabon's writing.

Old enough at least, though, that I'm sure most libraries will have plenty of copies and no waiting lists.

I've broken The Second Sex down into a 13 week schedule, but if we're going ahead with a side reading of Kavalier and Clay, perhaps it might be a good idea to hold off rather than flood the group.

I've been dying to read this since we read the Woman in White as a group.

Have you read No Name? It's supposed to be really good, too. I want to read it after this one. Maybe later in the year ... late summer or fall. I love Collins, but don't like to read the same author all the time. You might also read The Dead Secret. I don't think it would be considered a chunkster, but it's another good one by him. I read it about a year ago.

I just downloaded Moonstone, so I'm in for the side read. I read Woman in White the summer of 1988 (It was a high school read). I remember it being my favorite of the list of summer reads I had to do, but I don't remember much of it, I wish I handn't missed the group read here, but glad I get to do Moonstone.

Think the schedule looks perfect. I'm really excited about this one. It's supposed to be the first detective novel, I genre I enjoy reading, so I'm looking forward to seeing the style and how it's developed over the years.

I'm really hoping to join in w/The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay side read. I need to catch up with East of Eden and a couple of other books I have going. Too many books, too little time! : )

If someone would give me a start and end date for the Moonstone, I can add it to the bookshelf. Same for The Second Sex, even if neither of these are started until next February or so. Better to put them on the bookshelf earlier rather than later. (And also, we don't want too many Side Reads going at once, so getting them up/planned now will serve as place holders.)

Moonstone is Feb 6 per an earlier post.

I just posted the thread for The Moonstone so we can keep track of them all.

for those of you reading The Second Sex, could you get me a schedule for the read? That way Loretta and I can get everything posted and adjusted in the group. Thanks!
