Kristi (kristicoleman) OK, I will pencil this one in for March! I'll work up a schedule and post it on the Side reads Intro thread in a few weeks! Can't wait to read this with all of you!

So far I have:

Kristina
Kathy
Liza
AM1000 (?)
Andrea (?)
Amy
Xeni
Tasha

If anyone else is interested let me know!!

message 52: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) March... it's GOOOOOOD!

message 53: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) I thought we had discussed The Crimson Petal and the White in another group, so I was talking over there about it, and everyone started looking at me like I was crazy for proposing such a long book!

So then I realized, hey, maybe it was the Chunksters group!

Glad to know that I'm right now!

I would love love love to read this book as a group (or side) read. I already bought my copy, so mark me down for whenever!

message 54: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) lol...Xeni, I'll add you to the list, it'll be a blast to read. It looks like we are going to start at the begining of March.

I'm working 2 jobs right now, so it might take me a little while to get the schedule up...but I'll get it done.

message 55: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Ok, since this one will be starting in march, I think I'll actually join in, so count me :)

message 56: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Got you on the list Tasha!

message 57: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Hey there everyone...it looks like it's almost March! Is everyone still up for reading The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber or shall we postpone it?

I have:

Kristina
Kathy
Liza
AM1000 (?)
Andrea (?)
Amy
Xeni
Tasha

Are we all still wanting to read this!!

message 58: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) I'm game :)

message 59: by AM10000 (new)

AM10000 I think I'll be ready for it! :)

message 60: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristina3880) I am still in :).

message 61: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I would love to but not sure I can actually fit it in my reads now for March.

message 62: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I already read this one and I'm not ready for a reread at this point! I may jump in on the discussion but with such a lengthy book I won't be reading along :)

message 63: by VeganMedusa (new)

VeganMedusa (kerriveganmedusa) I really want to read this, and hope to be able to fit it in!

message 64: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Yes, I'm still in.

message 65: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm going to pick either this one or Vanity Fair. Haven't decided yet but since VF was not the one I voted on, I think I may go for this one. :)

message 66: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) I know...I was just thinking that this might be a bit much, starting Vanity Fair and TCPATW...what does everyone else think??

message 67: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) Well... yeah. But I did want to read TCPATW... I don't mind if we put it off for a month either, though. I have the book here, and I am wanting to read, but I will wait for when everyone can :)

message 68: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Ok, let me think about this for a little bit. I'll come up with something.

message 69: by Loretta (last edited Feb 17, 2011 09:24AM) (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) All - I'm not joining in on TCPATW, as I've read it already, but personally I feel like reading two chunksters simultaneously is no problem, though going up to three makes it a bit more difficult. I've been balancing C&P and LOTR pretty easily, and still reading other books as well.

message 70: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Yes, but starting 2 at the same time seems a bit overwhelming to me for some reason. Like I said, I'll see what I can come up with, especially since i'll be doing the schedules for both at the same time too...lol. Give me till the 22nd and I be I'll have it all worked out! If I can get the schedules done it prob won't be so overwhelming feeling, maybe we can start TCPATW a couple weeks before or after Vanity Fair...

message 71: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) Yeah, starting them at the same time might confuse people... I read like 50 books at the same time, but sometimes they can overlap a bit too much. xD

message 72: by AM10000 (new)

AM10000 I would be up to starting TCPATW at any point now that I have finished TWIW

message 73: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristina3880) I do not care when we start. I can wait a month. Kristi, if you wanted to start Vanity Fair on March 20th and then a month later start TCPATW or whatever. I am easy to please. LOL

message 74: by VeganMedusa (new)

VeganMedusa (kerriveganmedusa) I'm happy with any time after the end of March.

message 75: by Kathy (last edited Feb 23, 2011 07:06AM) (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I'll go w/ whatever you guys want to do. :)

message 76: by Jaime (new)

Jaime (janastasiow) I'd like to join, too.

message 77: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) great, the more the merrier!

message 78: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Ok, I've decided to read TCPATW instead of Vanity Fair. I have so much else to read (I know I'm not alone in this) but I had to make a choice so...if this side read is still on, I'm in!

message 79: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) It's on....most likely the beginning of April.

Thanks for the update, I'll add it to my calendar :)

message 81: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasonct) Anyone interested in doing a side read of Uncle Silas Uncle Silas by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu say running the first week of aug - 3rd week of Oct. (11 weeks) to end just in time for Halloween - since this is a gothic horror tale?

I'd be happy to moderate.

Let me know.

I am totally in!!!

message 83: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) Wow... that book description just told me exactly what it's all about

"One of the most effective novels of terror ever written, this true Gothic mystery novel is considered by many to be the best of the period. It is not only wonderfully written, skillfully plotted, and peopled with interesting characters, it is incredibly frightening."

Now I definitely know if I want to read it or not. *rolls eyes at GR*

Other than being the most classic novel of terror ever, what other perks does Uncle Silas have?

I have no idea about Uncle Silas...but I was totally giggling at your post. :D

message 85: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I may be interested if I can get caught up with all my other reading obligations.

message 86: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Yes, please! I LOVE creepy Victorian :)

message 88: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) I think we have enough interest for this to be a side-read. By the end of the Crime & Punishment read, I think only 3-4 of us were reading and commenting, but that was enough for it to work.

message 89: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Yep...I think it works! If Jason could get em the required info (please reference the 1st post of any of the current side reads) I'll be happy to post the thread!

Hey Kristi - I'll send it on over to ya!

message 91: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) ok, thanks!

Hi Laurie,
The only way I will read this is if others hold me accountable so I am in! I am a bit behind but will begin this week.

message 94: by Laurie (new)

Laurie (laurieappreciationist) Yay! Welcome aboard! I'm posting on Wednesdays on my blog, so hop by tomorrow to see what's happening (if you don't mind a spoiler or two)...
My post for Book One, Parts 1 & 2 is here when you're ready: http://whatsheread.blogspot.com/2011/...
I'm enjoying W & P far more than I did Anna Karenina, and muse on why in both the post above and the one forthcoming.
Looking forward to reading what you think, and if you'd rather I cut-n-paste my blogposts so you can respond here rather than there, just let me know...

message 95: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) So, it's probably a bad idea to have too many side-reads going at once, but is there any interest in reading The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas before the (latest of many) movie comes out this fall?

If no interest, that's cool--I'll just read it on my own. (Especially if it would mean we have too many books running at once.) :)

message 96: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Ah man! I just read this 2 months ago...it was fabulous! I would totally do a BR with you otherwise, I don't think we have read together yet...

message 97: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) That's true, we haven't! LOL. It's funny how we've ended up reading/leading opposite threads (I did LOTR and C&P, you did TWIW, VF and TCPATW).

message 98: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) yep...totally funny huh? We need to actually read the same book sometime! Would be pretty fun...

message 99: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Oooh...I heard theres supposed to be a new film coming out later this year. I'm interested, although if I take part, I'll have to skip whatever is picked as the new classic chunkster. I think three at a time is my limit.

message 100: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) Yeah, definitely 3 at a time is too much.

This book appears to be about 600 pages, so it would probably be broken down in 11-12 weeks. I know the movie comes out in the middle of October, so we'd actually have to start ASAP if we were going to do this.

I'd be cool with reading with just a couple other people if we had any more takers. Again, no pressure. :) I'm sure I'll read it anyway.
