Joann | 973 comments Finished Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz on 04.16.11. I enjoyed reading it; will probably continue with the series at some point. I just have sooo many books tbr..... :)

message 202: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I just finished reading Poison Study yesterday. I liked it enough that I'm itching to read the next book in the series. Good enough for me :)

message 203: by Teresa Jo (new)

Teresa Jo (teresajo) I read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks on 4/20/11

message 204: by Gen (new)

Gen (gen454) | 282 comments I finished Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder and I gave it ★★★★★.

I really loved it. I liked the "intrigues". It's an awesome fantasy novel.

message 205: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 141 comments O.K. I know I'm last minute here, but I read T is for Trespass. It has been awhile since I've read a Sue Grafton and was suprised at how creepy it was.

message 206: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Finished Prodigal Son yesterday, 4-24-11.

Good, solid start to a horror series. Interesting twist on the Frankenstein legend. Not as powerful to me as the Odd Thomas start, but definitely will continue.

message 207: by Sandra (last edited Apr 28, 2011 06:00PM) (new)

Sandra | 4260 comments Finished Magyk on 26/4 and gave it 3 stars.

I enjoyed this kids book though the similarities to Harry Potter can't be discounted. I feel it is aimed at a younger audience than the Harry Potters because the language used seems simpler.

As an introduction to reading most kids will love this, though it is pretty hefty at over 550 pages.

It is your classic Good Wizards vs Evil I'm taking over the World Wizard (they never share) story. It has a dispossessed Princess, a dragon, stolen babies and a very bad villan.

message 208: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I wanted to read Die Trying but there must be a big waiting list for it at the library. I still haven't gotten it.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I have Gone on a challenge ending in June, so I'll probably read it. I really want to read Koontz's and Grogan's books at some point. I keep putting them off because I'm sure they're both going to become emotional reads at some point.

Vi | 2794 comments I finished Minx by Julia Quinn today (16/5/11). *** for me. I think I still like Brighter Than the Sun best among her older Non-Bridgerton books.

message 222: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Finished Gone on 5-9-11. 3 stars. The series as a whole was interesting, but never went above the 3 star level for me.

message 223: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I finished The Eyre Affair yesterday (5/16/11). I can't believe I waited so long to read this. I loved it!

message 224: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Wake today 5/17. I really liked it a lot, sped through it in one day (4*). I am anxious to read the rest of the series, maybe I can get to Gone by the 31st.

message 225: by Joyce (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments I Finished the second book in the Thursday Next series Lost in a Good Book (Thursday Next, #2) by Jasper Fforde Lost in a Good Book Finished 5/14/11 ★★★★1/2 I really love the character Thursday Next and premise of the book jumping. The play on words is just brilliant.

message 226: by Joann (new)

message 227: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I'd like to read The Eyre Affair but, for those that have read it, does it matter that I have yet to read Jane Eyre? Should I wait?

message 228: by Kate (new)

Kate (fictionalkate) | 51 comments I want to read Outlander but I keep putting it off.

This will give me an extra push to watch it.

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments ~Sara~ wrote: "I'd like to read The Eyre Affair but, for those that have read it, does it matter that I have yet to read Jane Eyre? Should I wait?"

Hi Sara - I think the overall plot of The Eyre Affair would makes sense without reading Jane Eyre. There's a lot of other literary references and a lot of other stuff going on in general. But I think you would miss out on part of the fun without knowing those references. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think you could follow The Eyre Affair I don't think it would be as enjoyable without the Jane Eyre knowledge. On the third hand, most of what's referenced is basic, iconic stuff from Jane Eyre so even if you've seen one of the movies I'd think that would be enough familiarity.

message 230: by Laurie (new)

Laurie I read They Do It With Mirrors (Miss Marple Mysteries) by Agatha Christie . I'd read it years ago and thought this would be a great chance to revisit the scene. I loved it as much this time as I did so long ago.

message 231: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments Finished Trickster's Choice last night. A little boring and a tad bit longer than it should have been. Still an A but won't be reading the sequel.

message 232: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 141 comments I finished Gone last night. When I picked it up for the library I didn't realize it was the third book in a trilogy. I read it anyway. Not sure if reading the others first would of helped. It was an o.k. book. I wasn't emotionally invested in the characters but it was a really fast read. I think if it had been longer I might not have finished it.

Thanks Karen! I haven't seen the movie either. I don't like to watch them before reading the book so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to Jane Eyre aside from that she's a governess that falls in love with the father who I think is moody? I'll probably wait to read this, besides I ran out of time trying to finish up other challenges! :o

message 236: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I'll go for Carolina Moon. Always up for a Nora read!

message 237: by taita (new)

taita I keep seeing The Giver on Kids' Summer Reading Lists. Might as well see what the hype is all about. Count me in please.

message 238: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 2244 comments Instead of Tempted by P.C. Cast, I read Marked by P.C. Cast! It was pretty good, I'm a big fan of P.C. Cast's Divine and Goddess Summoning Series!

message 239: by Karina (new)

Karina | 95 comments I finished Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr on the 17 June. It was okay; I'd give it 3 stars.

message 240: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I finished Carolina Moon on 6/25/11. Solid Nora Roberts read. I didn't really like the resolution to the mystery part of the plot but the romance and the secondary characters made the book.

message 241: by Joann (new)

Joann | 973 comments I finished Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon for Seize the Night on 06.25.11. I rated it 4 stars.

message 242: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Hush, Hush on 7/2. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I read it quickly and it held my attention the whole time, but I kept hoping there would be more; more explanation, more common sense, more something. I gave it 3*, not sure if I will continue with the series, but liked it enough to consider it.

message 243: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Just finished Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts . I'd read it several years ago and enjoyed it then and really enjoyed the re-read. This book caught my attention and held it with ease.

message 244: by Tiffanny (new)

Tiffanny I read Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick and I really enjoyed it. I like how Patch acted like a typical boy, and wasn't overly gushy and sentimental. He cares for Nora, and even might love her, but it doesn't have the romeo/juliet feeling to it. I'm really looking forward to reading the second and third book =)

message 245: by Tiffanny (new)

Tiffanny I felt the same way about Switch =(

Fran wrote: "I finished Switch and I didn't really enjoy it. I didn't like the heroine Paige at all and it was very hard to care about her or her journey."

message 246: by taita (new)

taita I read The Giver. I was amazed that this is considered a kid's book. OK... Young Adult book. I cried because parts of it were so disturbing to me. A quick, but intense read. It ended a bit abruptly. Wish it was more clear about what happens to everyone. 3 stars.

I forgot that I had read a book for this already, but I've finished Ink Exchange today. It was ok, I'm not sure I like this author's writing style but the story is interesting.

message 248: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I reread Prince Caspian (7/5***) and I still like it but I wish that the battle was written in greater detail; it was only given a few pages. Although the movie drove me insane with the tension between Prince Caspian and High King Peter, the battle scene was far more interesting!
