Alara (gaelen) I didn't understand the system :( I know what "random picking" means! But... the system is a bit confusing.

Fran | 12278 comments I started Size 12 Is Not Fat but I just couldn't get into it. I found the heroine a little annoying. So I have given up on that one and will be reading From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler instead. This is a great pick for me b/c I just took my daughter to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC a few days ago and we are both still talking about it. Plus, this book happens to be on her reading list for school so she will read it after me.

And then to round up the bonding experience, you and she can watch a movie version together. : )

Is there really a movie version?

Yes. There are two movie versions, 1973 and 1995. I'm trying to recall which one I've seen. : )

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments I remember writing a book report on Mrs. Basil E when I was in 4th grade. Unfortunately I don't remember the story. :-( Guess I'll have to read it again!

That's what grade my daughter is in - it's gotten great reviews so hopefully we'll both enjoy it.

@Yz, I will try and dig up one of the movies.

message 176: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler tonight. I enjoyed it- I liked the adventure aspect of it and the 1960's references. But I probably would have liked it more if I read it as a kid- in the back of my mind I was worrying about how the mother was feeling having her children missing for a whole week. I was involved in the kids' adventure but I also wanted to scream at them through the book to go home and put your poor Mother's mind at ease.

message 177: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 366 comments I finished The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Horse and His Boy 2/25/11. I really enjoyed revisiting these books. I hadn't read them in years.

message 178: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I'll read Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I bought the book a while ago and still need to read it. I loved the show when it first came out but have since lost interest. I wonder if the book is anything like it or if it's more like Bones where only the characters names are the same as the show.

Shannon (wckdktty) | 479 comments Random Book List Challenge #17 Completed (Yay for completing my very first challenge here)

Duration: Feb. 22 - March 22, 2011

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay started Feb 25 to Feb 28.

I give the book **** stars. It is nice to review the first season which I watched well before reading the book. The story is very close to the original season but there are enough differences to make it a good read as well. I like how the author does the descriptive names for Dexter's Dark Passenger the play on the letter "D".

maybe.....I am thinking of reading these 2 after I finish my March challenge.

Size 14 Is Not Fat Either by Meg Cabot

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1966 comments 3/2/2011 - I just finished reading Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey. I gave this book 5 stars and here is my review: I couldn't put this book down. Great story, well written, intense scenes, and good characters. I will definitely recommend to friends and keep on my shelf for future rereads!
Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica, #1) by Beth Fantaskey

Gen (gen454) | 282 comments I finished Size 14 Is Not Fat Either and gave it ★★★★.

I had to read the first in the series Size 12 Is Not Fat. It took me 6 days to start it. Maybe because it's a chick-lit and I don't normally read them. But, after the first impression, I got into the story and quite enjoyed it.

The second book was well written too and I'll now begin the third in the series, Big Boned. I want to know if Cooper and Heather will become a couple.

message 182: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 141 comments I read Executive Power. This was a reread for me. I LOVE this entire series and recommend it to everyone!

message 183: by Sheila (last edited Mar 07, 2011 01:08PM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I really like it too Shelley. I finished Executive Power by Vince Flynn on 3/7

message 184: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) Finished Life as We Knew It...4 stars.

message 185: by Erin (new)

Erin H Finished Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica, #1) by Beth Fantaskey on 3/15 and although I loved the book, I thought the ending was a bit rushed. Overall it was a very enjoyable read and I can't wait to read the next one!!

message 186: by ~Sara~ (last edited Mar 16, 2011 09:46AM) (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I finished reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter (3/15***) and, although I liked it, I actually liked the tv show better. I thought the book was too short; the author didn't really seem to flesh out any of the characters other than Dexter and the ending felt really rushed. The show develops the secondary characters a lot more and I felt it had a better ending - there was more build up to the climax. In the book's defense, the entire first season was based only on this fairly short story, so they had more time to develop the characters and storyline. Dexter's inner monologue was fairly similar to the show and, along with his interaction with the dark passenger, was my favourite part.

message 198: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Evernight 4/7. It started out with great promise, I got right into it, but then kind of fell flat for me. It dragged through much of the middle, then got exciting again in the end. I may still pick up the next in the series to see what happens.

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I'm jumping on to this list since I read Die Trying this week. Finished it on 4/13. I love Jack Reacher when I want something a little grittier than what I typically read.
