The Alpha by Annie Nicholas

2 stars - I was really looking forward to reading about how the Omega's were coping with being a part of a larger pack, but all the warmth and humour that made the first book an enjoyable read. Or maybe I was just annoyed that Spice, who apparently had deserted her sister to run off to be a dancer in vegas, ended up a stripper and a "pet" of a vampire was instantly forgiven and accepted back into the family... oh, no wait it was that after being there for 3 days and very little on page time, she was in love with Eric. On the plus side Eric was as wonderful as he was in the first book - I guess I just had higher hopes for his story.

Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh

4 stars - I loved this book - it has a distinctly different feel to most pnr books out there. The fact that the characters can't shift, but retain characteristics of the breed they were crossed with made it an interesting concept for a series. Really hope that we will read more about the Tyler 7 - perhaps their own series or books in this one? Hate the cover though - deserved better.

This makes me soooo happy! This is the series I recommend all over GR on all the "don't judge a book by it's cover" threads. I am a huge fan, and feel so sorry for the author that the publisher gave her such horrible covers. Love the books. :)

Oh I didn't mind the first 2 covers, they weren't really like the books, but at least they were quirky. But those last 3, maaaaaan those were horrible.

But for me it's a series I'm recommending all over the place as well.

MARTINA'S NOVEMBER READING CHALLENGE - 1/10 FINISHED

Earlier today I finished Midnight Crystal (Harmony, #7/Dreamlight, #3) by Jayne Castle (★★★★). This book is a bit strange in that it crosses multiple series. It's the third and final book in her Dreamlight Trilogy that is part of her Arcane Society world (which I don't read . . . yet) but it's also set on the world of Harmony, so it fits into that series, which is one of my all-time favorites!

The series is definitely romance, and definitely paranormal, but isn't a typical paranormal romance. No shapeshifters, vampires, zombies, etc, but lots of psychic powers in humanities future on a different world.

If you like the Celta series by Robin D. Owens, or the Jarved 9 series by Patti O'Shea, then you should be reading this series.

Blue Diablo by Ann Aguirre

3 stars - Good start to what will hopefully shape up to be an interesting urban-fantasy series. However it reads like a first book and you really don't get good strong pacing until 2/3 of the way where the book really starts to come together. Premise is interesting, with Corine's and relationship with her ex having an uneasy aliance, as well as her learning more about the secret world that she was born into but never taught due to the death of her mother (by burning no less). Three really interesting characters that may have strong storylines to follow - interesting enough for me to want to find the next book. Oh, and one brilliant scene with a p**sed off spirit. Although I do find myself wanting her to end up with the one person who looked after her wounds after a fight with zombies rather than the two men set up for the "who will she end up with" storyline.

Lovers and Beloveds by MeiLin Miranda ★★★★

It started slowly, and I didn't really like the main character at first (lusty teenagers aren't really my cup of tea), but suddenly the night had passed and I was still reading.

It's a slow and subtle fantasy, interwoven with a fairy-tale like backstory, and it's so sensual, tender and beautiful. It had a sort coming of age feeling to it, but the topics handled are definitely not YA. It's obvious there's much more to this world than written about here, and I know that Temmin's story is a trilogy. I am truly hungry for more. A great first book.

Will write a proper review later this week (it needs to simmer a bit), but highly recommended to fans of Jacqueline Carey and the likes.

This wasn't originally on my list for this month though, and since I can swap this for either L or M, I haven't yet decided what I will swap it for. For now I'm going for L, but I'll leave that on the Back up list.
