5star
Man! I loved this book. It has all the things I love in a story. Fantasy characters, romance, and action! My favorite thing about this book is that the vampires are the hero-types, not the bad guys. I give this book two thumbs up.
I so can't wait to dive into the next book and see what awaits the other brothers...

Sevie | 26 comments Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre
Finally my Wishlist shelf read
I give this 4 stars but it's really more like 3.5.
This was my first true sci-fi space book and I liked it. I wasnt sure if I could get into this genre but once I started the book I couldn't put it down. I definitely attribute this to the authors world building. It's always easier to relate to urban fantasy due to the fact that it's happening in the modern world and sometimes in cities you live in or visited. I use google earth sometimes to get a sense of the area the book is happening in, like the Riley Jenson series happens in Australia and I've never been there so I like to look at pictures and maps of the particular areas the author writes about. I find it very educational. Anyways, I have shied away from sci-fi and pure fantasy just because I thought I couldn't relate and I was completely wrong about both genres, if the writing is good it doesn't matter when/where and what dimension it's happening in.
I have gotten way off topic, so Grimspace is basically happening in a Star Trek type era. Grimspace is the what happens when you travel at warp speed. The difference between Star Trek and this book is that only certain people with special DNA, called jumpers can get the ship through grimspace at warp speed. They physically insert a special jack into their arm and then are able to guide the pilot to their destination. The book is about Sirantha Jax and she is a jumper. There is a lot of action and mystery. The only part I had a real problem with is the romance, it seemed to convenient.

Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher
3 stars (more like 3.5)
This is the 2nd Book in the Dresden Files series and I am not real sure how I feel about it. Honestly, these books have been fillers, books to read while waiting for my favorite authors new releases. Now don't get me wrong there's good world building, some cool evil villains, a gambit of all kinds of supes. there's even a little romance but for some reason I just don't crave this series like I do others. However, Fool Moon is better than Storm Front and has a ton of werewolves, which is pretty cool. Maybe these books get better, I am still reading them and will be reading the next one so maybe it's a mood thing or maybe I am just partial to female protagonists.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Currently reading Mona Lisa Darkening (Monère Children of the Moon, #6) by Sunny for the P & UF Shelf

Nevermind, just realized that the book I started yesterday and finished in the wee hours last night was on the shelf also. Having a very scatterbrained week, LOL.

Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh Archangel's Kiss, Nalini Singh, 2-3-11
Rating: 4.5 stars
Review: Singh's Psy-Changeling series is still my favorite, but there's something darkly enticing about this series. Kiss drew me in from the moment I picked it up and held me captivated until I finished. One thing bothered me, the ending sequence was slightly anticlimactic after all the build up throughout the book about the dangers of Lijuan's court.

message 357: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Sevie, I've got all the Sirantha Jax's tbr so I'm glad you liked it. Love the Star Trek connection, but then I am a Trekkie at heart. LOL.

Daffodil, when I first read Archangel's Kiss I gave it 4 stars but on re-reading I ended up with 5, so 4.5 sounds like you liked it as much as me. I agree that the ending was strange but the intimacy built up between Elena & Raphael was lovely.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Ditto on Jax. :)

I finished Scent of Shadows today. I have no Internet service for some unknown reason. I'll post my review once it's back up. AND, give us our stamp!

For now I'll just say that I enjoyed bits of the story and will continue on to the next book. I had no idea the heroes in the series are "superheroes", for some reason that just makes me laugh. They do talk about their "paranormal" world, but have comics and cards for each of them. LOL! Anyway, I will give it 3.5stars and hope for better in #2.

Sevie, I didn't really get "into" the Dresden books until book 4. Then I devoured them. For me, I think the turning point was there started being more regular characters helping Harry out.

Paranormal and Urban Fantasy
Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin
14/2/11 ★★★★

I don't understand why it took me so long to read this book. I got about half way and put it down and then kept picking up other books. It's not a bad book, hence the 4 stars, but maybe I was expecting more after reading too much hype.

So the story goes - Jaz Parks is an assassin for the CIA, mainly killing paranormal creatures. Vayl is her boss & partner, he is a vamp, a good vamp born in 1744 Romania.

Their latest mission is to stop a deadly plague being released by bad vamps & a mysterious creature from another dimension. Along the way we meet Cassandra, a psychic and Bergmann the paranoid electronics wizz, together with Cole a PI. They all join our merry little band of assassins and have their roles to play.

Along the way we have Jaz leaving her body and astral travelling, which comes in handy for surveillance and totally freaks out Vayl.

Will certainly be continuing reading the series.

Sandra | 25908 comments Paranormals
Tempting the Beast (Breeds Series) by Lora Leigh 15/2/11 ★★★★

Written in 2003 this is the first Breeds series book. It tells the story of Callan Lyons and Merinus Tyler, the reporter who triggers the mating heat in Callan.

To save her life, Callan finally agrees to go public at the genetic Senate hearings. For once the Council knows about Merinus, they will stop at nothing to get their grubby hands on her to experiment on and find out how to breed more breeds.

Lots of world building and shadowy military figures and the horrendous Council to sustain the 20 odd books already written.

There was plenty of mating heat sex in this book and it was plenty hawt!! So if that offends you please don't read it, if it doesn't bother you, go ahead and enjoy.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Review for my Paranormals book:
Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost
2/15/11 5★ (though re-read probably should be 4)

As always, Jeaniene Frost never fails to keep me entertained. There are fantastic quotes throughout, as with all her books, Cat-fights, Bare-Bones, and Vlad. ;)

I found myself more interested in Spade, Mencheres, and Vlad this time, most likely due to their books/appearances in her spin-off Night Huntress World books.

I'm SO excited to read more about Vlad. He is quickly becoming one of my favorites in this series.

Cat & Bones are finding that relationships, even theirs, are not always sunshine and rainbows. They fight and fight a LOT. (A bit too much -of the book- for my liking) And, more than ever, I would love more from Bones' POV. Mencheres has kept a secret, a big one, one that Cat now finds herself haunted by every time she sleeps. Can she stay awake long enough to keep those she loves safe and keep the man that she loves?

I was a bit frustrated this go 'round (view spoiler)

I am very much looking forward to This Side of the Grave!

Rating: 5 Stars
Review: Once I picked up this book I didn't want to put it down until I finished and, except for work, I didn't. It had been a while since I read the first book, but it didn't matter. Andrews' vivid descriptions and wonderfully unique characters drew me right back into the world of the Edge. Cerise is perfect for William, a strong character with a wild side. I'm hoping her entire family will appear in future books.
