Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Everyone should be up to date on the 'X's. If I missed someone or mistakenly marked something incorrectly, let me know and I'll fix it.

Unless I'm mistaken, I count 25 people that have already finished this challenge. Which means there are 44 of us that are apparently slacking. ;-)

Miss | 330 comments I'm in the slacker category. But i'll get around to reading my book eventually :).
I wanted to put my two-cents in and heartily recommend the In Death series by JD Robb. I love it, and even though snarky heroines usually annoy me i get Eve and where she's coming from, and i can even respect her, also i adore Roarke!
The mysteries are really well done.
This series is my comfort read, whenever i'm in a lull i read the next book, but it's kinda scary now because there are only 2-3 more and then i'll have to wait till new ones get published. :)

I recommend this book to everyone but so far noone has read it (none of my friends like sci-fi :( ) so I'm really glad you did and I'm so glad you liked it!!!

I'm trying hard to not get put in the slacker group (I usually read my challenge books in the last few days of the month) so I haven't gotten to Storm Front yet either, but it's next. I hope we both like it!

Gail Distefano | 37 comments kimkirt recommended Cry No More by Linda Howard
Cry No More

I am so glad she did. This book was right up my alley. I actually had this book although I had not had it listed in my to be read books. It has probably been sitting for a year. I found it ironic that she picked that book because there were many times I almost picked it up to read it but grabbed something else (from my endless supply of unread books as I love to buy books as much as I love to read them. Both new and used)
Thank You Kim it was such a heartfelt storyline and I found myself tearing up on more than one occasion reading this book. I wasn't so keen on the beginning of the book but once the story line got going and Diaz (love interest) was introduced the book I was hooked. He had a very dark quiet dangerous mysterious air about him that in my opinion always makes me root for the relationship . I recommend this book to anyone (especially if you are a mom as you will truly feel the heroine's pain and joy)

Covet was also a recommend from my to be read list and I am reading that now!

KimKirt | 1638 comments Gail! I'm so glad you liked it. That was definitely a "walk around in a fog" book for me after I finished it. Very emotional. Glad I could give you the push to pick it up and finish it!

I haven't read Covet yet. I'm reading #4 of the BDB series right now though.

message 458: by Gail (new)

Gail Distefano | 37 comments Fog yes good word for it. I have been thinking about it all morning. I finished it last night.

Read BDB series and I really enjoyed it! My favorite character is V although based on reading other posts on the books I dare say most would not agree with me. Fury was my least favorite.

V is one of my faves, too, but I have to admit his HEA was less than satisfying for me.

D.G. | 4477 comments I'm not in the slackers group anymore! I finished one of Jess suggestions: The Hunger Games and all I have to say is WOW! I've had this book on my TBR for over a year and I don't know why I haven't picked it up but I'm sure glad for the push! Thanks sooooo much!!! I LOVED IT!!!

I added the Nora Roberts book to my 'library' shelf...I may not get to it this month because I'm working on some yearly challenges where I'm really behind if I'm to complete them by 12/31 but I'll definitely read it!

ok...now I got the original choice! I will try to read both! Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I'll do updates this weekend. Glad to see everyone is still reading!

Trust Me by Jayne Ann Krentz came in today so that is the one I will read. If any of the others show up before the end of the month I may or may not read them depending on time.

I loved Hunger Games.
I loved Hitchhiker's Guide.
I loved Cry No More.

Looks like lots of great books being read this month.

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments so I just finished reading Halfway to the Grave It was soooo good!! I cant get this grin off my face!! ah! I need to pick up the 2nd book ASAP. I'm a huge paranormal romance fan and this book was really great. A few chapters in, I was a bit disappointed that you never really get inside of Bones' head but all the action and the awesomeness of Cat totally made up for it. I'm so glad I read this book.

Macwolf01 [Elise] (macwolf01) | 1012 comments I'm only 113/140 at the library for The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goodman and they don't have the other one ... I'm going to try and get to the bookstore at some point this week but even my days off are crazy scheduled. Guess that puts me in the slacker category too **head hung in shame**

message 472: by Stormy (new)

Stormy | 144 comments I finished pick #2 of the month Mark of the Demon and I'm a bit on the fence. Lots of cussing, about a serial killer (not my favorite subject) and demons, but the "solve it" was impossible to solve along with, since the author was making up the rules as she went along. It was intriguing and it pulled me through in a sort of "can't stop looking at the car crash" sort of way, but the epiphany, while "probable" was disappointing since there was NO WAY I could have figured it out from clues in the book leading up to it.

message 473: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Well, Debbie should earn extra points for this month.

Although I had selected Dark Lover for another challenge I was planning on replacing it until Debbie suggested it for this challenge. I read it, thought it was great enough to make sure I added the next to the Toy Story challenge and off I went...

Needless to say I'm now up to book 7 in the series.

Online book shopping and the ability to read fast may not be a good combination.

message 474: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol, so glad you enjoyed and might I say - wow, up to book 7 already :)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Well, I finished Trust Me. I liked the heroine. I liked her family more. Setting was decent. Plot was OK. But the computer lingo felt off the whole time. A solid three stars and I'll certainly give Jayne Ann Krentz another shot.

Yay! I'm so happy-& relieved-that you liked it, Becky! I've been telling my friends to give it a go, but knowing you enjoyed it makes my opinion feel validated!

I'm also very happy that your going to try more TM in the future. I've read almost all her books & I must say, she is a fantastic HR author.

I'm glad you liked it. It is from 1995, so yeah, the computer lingo is going to be old. She tends to like technology, so if you start reading her awesome back list, expect to deal with things being out of date.

My fellow Taurus girl... I just finished reading Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and I loved it!, I can't wait to read the next one so I can find out what happens with Dimitri.

At first it reminded me a little bit of the HON series, minus all the slang and pop culture references, and since I'm sick of Zoey and her thousands of lovers/boyfriends/mates I didn't think I'll get to like it but then I got to know the characters and all the drama... and now I want to know what happens next.

Thanks for the rec Nairabell!

message 480: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments I liked the second Outlander book more than the first one.

message 481: by Stormy (new)

Stormy | 144 comments I have enjoyed the whole Outlander series. The author is extremely skilled at weaving history and time travel into her story line and there are some amazing threads that get carried from one book across other books and become important later. It is much less a romance than it is an epic (with the required commitment from the reader) and I would highly recommend each one.

Elke, I really liked this trilogy, but the first book starts slowly, and you wonder whether it's ever going anywhere, but I think you'll be rewarded if you stick with it. In my review I compared the first part to the "begats" in the Bible - once you get past that, things start happening.

Sue (knitwitsl) | 226 comments Angelique;

I finished "First Drop of Crimson" over the weekend since I started that while waiting for "Full Moon Rising." I liked the book, but not quite as much as her other series. I was going to try and also finish "Full Moon Rising" before I made this post as well, but once I got a dozen pages into the book I realized I already read it back in 2007! I think over the holidays I will take all of my word document lists of books and put them into some order I can search better from previous years!

Oh man! Don't tempt me, Fran! I don't want to read it next because right now I'm reading a big fantasy book and as I know the SAA books tend to have fantastic elements, I'd like a breather from that topic before I tackle it again. And I confess, I need some explicit romance, LOL!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Read the second of my picks, Wild Ride. It was decent. I hated the way that it started, but I got into after the first half. Maybe I just had a hard time with it as it was so not what I expected. I've read two other Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer collaborations and both were contemporary romance. Then I see the picture of the roller coaster on the front cover and I expect more of the same. But instead I get demon spawn and possessed teddy bears.

Yeah, I was surprised when it turned supernatural, but I still enjoyed it. Her latest book is supernatural as well - Maybe This Time. I liked it better than Wild Ride, but at the same time it was creepier while still having cool characters and her trademark humor.
