All 3 of my grandchildren (range 2-8) love their educational games on their iPads - but not one of them like eBooks, they all have real books and these are what they like to have read to them or flick through themselves.

LOL! Hubby and I will be in Amsterdam in March and I have a pair of clogs on the list for our 2 year old granddaughter. I found a video of a lady dressed in traditional dress doing a clog dance - Miss Lily watched intently then went and put on a pair of her mum's slippers and tried to do the dance herself! Was so funny - so she is getting a pair :)

Not a nice flight though is it! Even in that comfy lounge you will be feeling very tired by the time your flight is called. I always dread that part of that particular journey when I go over to visit my daughter.

Flying is exhausting. Last time I flew was to Florida. 6 hours with one layover and by the end I resembled a person who had been hit by a train.

I hope you get a good sleep in when you get there, Marianne.

at least it will be dark as you fly the next long haul - so will be able to sleep.

I always have real books for take off and landing and stopovers to conserve my batteries.

Oh well that's the hard part over with, I always think the longest part of the journey is just getting outside of Australia, it takes ages to get across this vast country of ours! You can walk around for a bit :))

message 22188: by Neko (new)

Neko i can't sleep on flights or doze off waiting for a flight even if the layover is the next day.

most ppl never understood why i took the longer layovers but cause i traveled alone it just felt better however tired i get...zombie mode activated..lol

I can't sleep on flights either. However, this is due to the fact that Im in my seat cowering in terror - I hate flying.

message 22193: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9867 comments I can never sleep either and end up bug-eyed on a flight to Europe from watching too many movies and reading too many books! Hope you've got your eyedrops Marianne :)

message 22194: by Neko (new)

Neko @melissa - awe :( do you try to distract yourself with movies n music or not enough distraction? It's the only time i truly pay attention to movies xD

Laura wrote: "@melissa - awe :( do you try to distract yourself with movies n music or not enough distraction? It's the only time i truly pay attention to movies xD"

That doesn't help. We have to take a trip to the doctor to get a relaxant if I know that i am going to be on a plane.

message 22196: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments We always try and arrange it so we arrive in Europe early in the morning and keep going until bedtime. We do the same on our return. Last time we got back to Australia at 4 am then went to bed and slept till mid morning. Worse thing we could have done.

Next year we have arranged to get back to Oz at 2 pm - will make ourselves stay awake until 9-10 then sleep.

Hopefully we won't suffer as much this time as a couple of years back - took us 2 weeks to unzombie ourselves - lol!

message 22197: by Neko (new)

Neko For myself I always left Europe in the early to mid morning otherwise...Arriving in Australia once in the afternoon and once in the evening....Should be all good but to get that connecting flight back to tas is the worst...longest layover i had was in Melb to Tas...lol! And it's painful when you know how quick it is to get back to Tassie.

Arriving in Europe in the afternoon has always thrown me off but it's given for a small nap then hunt for food then back to sleep n I've adapted to the time change (or i like to tell myself i have..lol..body might think overwise).

I think The Girl on the Train will make a great movie, but I can't imagine they'll be very true to the book. Are they ever??

I guess we won't know until it's finished... apparently The Book Thief was true to the book...
