Oh, Brenda! That's awful! Hope your toes recover OK and there are no long-lasting effects... I haven't met many Jack Russells, but the ones I have met haven't seemed very vicious. I just checked Wikipedia (so not necessarily dreadfully reliable!) which says they may be "aggressive towards other animals and humans if not properly socialised"...

Hope it doesn't interfere with the rest of your holiday!

Oh no, Brenda, that is awful! I wonder what got into the Jack Russell. I hope the wounds heal quickly and the incident doesn't effect the rest of your holiday. Hugs!

Brenda that's terrible. Where were the owners while all this was happening? I'm sorry but that is totally unacceptable that that sort of thing should be allowed to happen. Animals should be supervised at all times and not left to roam....especially dogs that can be quite unpredictable. I hope that you will be okay and are not too traumatised by the whole thing. I'm really angry for you not with the dog but the irresponsible owners that should have been there to stop this happening. You should get them to pay for any expenses. Did you even see the owners or get an apology?

I'm in emergency at the Royal Adelaide..they've xrayed (in case there are teeth fragments) - I've had tetanus plus intravenous antibiotics. Am now waiting for a doctor to either let me go home or stay overnight! It's infected..puffy with the red line that's moved to the height of my ankle bone! At least the hospital staff have a sense of humour ;)

Make sure you stay until that infection is gone. You DON'T want to get out too early. Yep, another nursie talking here *wink*. Take advantage of the down time to read!

I'm home guys! Tablet antibiotics plus medicated wash sponges for tomorrow. She drew a pretty line to show the red line and if it keeps going up I'm to go back. In bed now with it elevated:):)

Keep your fingers crossed for me that the infection goes quickly!

What an eventful day we've had..

Forgot to mention the dog is our daughter's and everyone else was at work and school. Last of our stuff was being taken to the car and Skip decided he didn't like me at that moment!

Thanks for all your concern and good wishes..I'm sure I'll be fine :)

That is awful, Brenda. Jack Russells can be bad tempered at times. Certainly as others have said, look after yourself. Thinking of you.

We are all thinking of you. This is not meant to happen on holidays!
From this pharmacist: follow all your instructions to the letter and if in any doubt, back to medical care without delay. You want to keep those toes!
big hug and take care!

message 18519: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Brenda, I'm feeling really sorry for you at the moment. Jack Russells used to be used for catching rats so it's no surprise that when Skip latched on to your tooties, he wouldn't let go. It must have been bad to land you in ER. Rest up for a few days till the infection disappears.

I guess that, with everyone else at work, Skip thought you must have been a burglar and he was protecting his territory. Your daughter must be feeling dreadful although not as bad as your toes feel!

Elaine wrote: "Brenda wrote: "Hi guys..I'll comment on the previous posts later (when I get on the laptop)..we are in Adelaide after a very eventful day. I was attacked by a little dog as we were loading the car ..."

As you will have read Elaine, it was our daughter's dog and it was just Richard and I loading the car. He had been hovering at the back door for some time and must have finally got sick of me coming in and out! When I put my foot out to nudge him away (as he wouldn't move when I told him to) he must have seen it as a threat. I'd hardly touched him but I felt his body tense and it was when I pulled my foot back that he latched on. We were carrying the eski so couldn't move back or forward in a hurry! No-one's fault and certainly by the time everyone got home, it was too late to chastise Skip - he wouldn't know what he was in trouble for! The daughter is really upset about it and said it's the first time Skip has been aggressive like that. I'm so thankful it wasn't Richard, or a child!

Thanks so much everyone..I really appreciate your concern:) The main toe in question is quite swollen this morning, but the red line hasn't travelled any further thankfully. It certainly doesn't look as bad as it is so after the course of antibiotics it will be all better (power of positive thinking!)
