Cats are selfish like that - BUT (looking over shoulder in case cat in the ara) what they haven't figured out is that we get to be warm from them too - LOL!!!

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments Well, me and the ipad are having problems again. Julie I think it was you helped me out last time. I thought I had saved your instructions but now I can't find them. Can you remind me of what to do to get all the links etc back please? Thanks in advance.

No worries Dale, try this quick fix...
Go right down to bottom right of this page, you will see switch to: Click on the version at the right.

message 17906: by Jülie ☼♄  (new)

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments Dale I just realized that wont work for you because that is how it happened ;)

Go to the very top left of the page you are in and press the horizontal lines to pull down menu, then click on switch to desktop.

message 17907: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments Okay, thanks so much Julie. I will save these instructions and try it next time I get near the i pad, which won't be for a while.Thanks.

message 17908: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments Thanks so much Julie. That worked I have saved the instructions this time in case it. Happens again and I have another mental blank.

message 17909: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments The trouble is that it's too long between times when you have to do it, so you forget. You know it's easy, but just can't remember exactly what to do.
At work, when I have to transfer a call to another number, I always have to ask how to do it, or give it to someone else to do. It happens to me so seldom, that the next time I need to do it I have forgotten. If I had to do it 3 times a day, no problem! but weeks between? no chance!

Thanks Marianne and Julie for making me feel better and not like an idiot because I didn't remember. This is why computers and me are not a good combination.

I know what you mean Marianne, when this first happened to me it took me ages to figure out what had happened. My first reaction to these kind of troubles is to look for the 'settings' button on the page, but in this case it was so difficult to discover that it was only desperation that made me click on those lines to discover the all important pull down menu. After that it was a logical choice. I think there is room for improvement there, on the part of Goodreads...its way too easy to accidentally hit that 'switch to' instruction on the bottom toolbar of this page...that's the culprit!

I think they just scare us more because we are not familiar with them Dale, the young people today are born into this technology so its easy for them, whereas we have to learn it from scratch...so that makes us smarter doesn't it!? ;)
If you just make a note somewhere that the instructions are on page 417 of this Chat about Whatever...thread. :))

Yes, that will be my excuse Julie. Because as far as I know I did nothing, at least not intentionally. But then you can't convince me computers don't have a mind of their own. LOL Anyway all sorted and saved info for future reference now. Thanks for the help.

message 17915: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments One of my GR friends was trying to change her settings so she didn't get notifications of my book reviews at 1.30am (she has to have her phone bedside when she's on-call), I knew she was using her phone to access GR, but she couldn't see where to change her settings on the mobile version. I was trying to explain (by email) how to do it, so I changed mine to mobile version to work out the steps and of course couldn't work out how to get back, although I knew there was a way. It's not at all intuitive, is it!
Once I had explained it to her (and it worked!! for her), I knew what to do. But ask me again in 3 months' time.....

Dale if I didn't write things down step by step, I wouldn't remember them either! I always do that:) It's as Marianne says; we can't remember things if we only do them infrequently...

You do that on your author profile Liz. Just edit and add it in. If you have a blog that will link with good reads too. Go to the GR author support if you're not sure :)

message 17928: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments I love this quote from A Book Lover's Calendar and Journal. 'No two persons ever read the same book.' Edmund Wilson.
True because we all bring our own baggage e.g. likes and dislikes, mood at the time, whatever else we have read before it and personal beliefs and experiences along with us when we read.. Explains I think why some of us here have vastly differing views on books. And that's okay. That's what makes reading and talking books an adventure.

Kathryn | 3569 comments The power has just gone off in the suburb I am in!!! I'm in a medical centre waiting for my last patient due in 30 min (who I'm not even sure will turn up as I haven't been able to contact them!) and the power went off about 15 min ago. It's 37 degrees outside and rapidly warming up inside...

Ha ha!! I wish! My patient turned up so we sat and sweltered for half of the appointment! It took about an hour to come back on - glad it wasn't any longer! Not sure what caused it, but maybe the power grid just collapsed under the demand for cool air on such a hot day...
