message 17451: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) | 380 comments The other day I was happily typing away when Evie, one of my cats, who was lying beside the laptop, decided to stretch out over the keyboard. Next thing you know, my screen has gone sideways. Ever try to look up Google sideways to find the answer on how to get the screen back to normal? Had a crick in my neck for ages! Not to mention how much fun (not) it is to try and get the cursor to go the right way - sideways. Evie thought I was nuts - then she went back to sleep.

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) | 380 comments Hi Brenda - once I found the answer on a forum, it was quick and easy!
Evie has this habit of doing things to my computers. My desktop is one of those touch screens. She likes to lie down in front of it and just, you know, ever so sweetly and gently - and totally unknowingly (sure) touch it with the tip of her tail, her furry foot, her ear - and do weird things to it. One day she brought up a program I had no idea I even had! Even better, when I'm trying to type and the cursor goes all over the place or disappears entirely.
Mum asked why i don't put her off the desk while on the computer but really, one look into those big, innocent eyes (which hide a whole heap of mischief) and I can't do it! So Evie, the computer, and I spend some interesting times together!

There are some seriously long-time married people in this forum (any advance on Sally's 38 years?).
Is it something to do with being readers?

Regina Anyone know of any cures for stress headaches (and not get rid of the stress!)? It's been residing in my head for the last couple of days and I can't seem to shake it. Maybe I'll just have to ride it out.

Yes a nurse told me this and it works, close your eyes, take a deep breath, focus on where the pain is (it will be black) hold your breath for a few seconds, exhale, repeat several times, you should imagine as your pain starts to ease that your pain goes from black to grey. After having a baby 17 years ago I commented on how I had a headache they checked me out and said it was just from the birth. One of the nurses came in and stepped me through this. I couldn't believe it. Now and again I get tension headaches and this works every time. Hope it helps. It does get a bit to get used to. Try to do it somewhere dark and silent. don't know the name of it but I find it works.

Mine only reads a handful of books a year. Usually just 15 or 20 min per night. Takes him weeks to finish a book.

You win ;)

41 years ago I knew my husband - we were in the same youth group - but if anyone had told me I would end up marrying him I would have laughed. Not my type at all!! I mean he liked camping and 4-wheel driving and (faint at the thought) hiking!!!

He is a reader but didn't read much - but was happy to let me indulge in my reading habit. He use to read only what I called picture books - from the non-fiction section - history and science subjects. Now he indulges himself and reads quite a bit - especially since he's discovered e-Books. He also listens to a book as he travels to work each day.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) On desk, two little kids running around squealing and dragging books off shelves because their parents can't control them.

You can always tell which kids who have never been smacked.

Oooh let's not get into the smacking argument Liam!!! It never hurt us, it never hurt my kids!!! And you are so right:)

Do you say anything to the kids, or their parents in that situation?

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Basically told the mum to control them or leave the library. Well, one of the mums, the other one went off to go shopping because apparently it says Child Care on the door rather than Library.

message 17498: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9988 comments When we had a pharmacy, my hubby had this way of deterring kids from picking things up: he would come up with a big smile and pick up their hand, say gently, "ooh, you shouldn't touch that" while squeezing their hand quite hard. They would run to mummy quick smart.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) HAHA I quite like that.

message 17500: by Faye (new)

Faye (lastchapter) | 409 comments Don't go near the smacking argument please. I have two kids that have never been smacked now 17 and 19 and people always say saw your child the other day how nice they were to stop and speak to me etc etc. Also if you have ever had to do a mandatory report because you work at a school, you would definitely change your mind about smacking . Rant over.
