Thanks, Suzanne. I think you'll find the "neverending thread" of snarky comments very entertaining... even if the book (which prompted the hilarious review, which spawned the incendiary comments thread) wasn't... particularly.

Definitely!! I'm funny about hype also, did not 'get' it surrounding The Fault in Our Stars, neither did my daughter. Each to their own huh?!!

Still have not read the Da Vinci Code, am I a bad person I just heard so much about it and could not bring myself to read it. Another example, I gave into, was Fifty Shades - why did I waste my time? But others loved that. so each to their own.

I agree about reading what you like. I did read the da Vinci code to see what the fuss was about. Found it boring. But my husband enjoyed it. Different tastes. As for the other one I knew I would never go near that.

A friend and I always joke saying there are too many good books to read before we die. So I often think when I read something and I am not really into it, get rid of it and read something you do enjoy. Life is too short.

Totally agree Faye, Dale and Suzanne! There are too many good books out there to waste on the ones you don't enjoy even if they are 'popular' like The Da Vinci Code or Fifty Shades of Grey or they are Literary prize winners.

Sally906 | 90 comments Evening everyone, thought I'd pop my nose in and say hello. Our granddaughter cyclone Lily came to visit after work today kept hubby and I on our toes for a few hours. She is just go, go, go. So no reading, no TV and eat on the run - not even a glass of wine!!

I had to have a blood test this morning - a fasting one - so rocked up at 7:30am and was first in. The young girl who took the blood popped the needle in and nothing came out. Not a drop of blood! She wiggled the needle around for a while, accused me of being dehydrated and then took it out and put a different needle (a butterfly one) in the other arm. No problems with this arm at all. She claimed she didn't miss the vein but seems highly likely! So my right inner elbow is one massive bruise and then my left inner elbow is all red and itchy because I am allergic to the sticky stuff on plasters. She assured me it was a allergic free plaster. Hmmmm! Might go to a different blood testing place next time!

Lily saw my owwie and gave me a big kiss. So feeling better now because granddaughter kisses heal everything :)

I started reading The Da Vinci Code quite some time ago & was struggling a bit, then my dog decided she wouldnt mind reading it & I found it in a bazillion pieces all round the backyard :0
So I took that as a bit of a sign LOL
Thankfully it is the only time she has ever done that & also Thankfully,it was one of my books, not from the library. That may have been a bit hard to explain :)

Yes, it's only Apple, Michael, but they say they're working on android: https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/4...

Am about to go and download it and see what it's like. I don't imagine we'll still be able to link books or reply to specific comments, but I keep hoping...

message 14130: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments Am posting from the new app upgrade. Don't think it links books yet - maybe one day. Definitely a nicer app with predictive text and an easier user interface.

message 14131: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments No, still can't link books or reply to specific posts. Ah well, maybe next time. Don't think I'm a fan - my home screen on my phone has nothing on it - unlike on the iPad which has a news feed with comments friends have made... Good thing I don't tend to use the app on my phone much, unless I'm at the library wondering what to borrow!

message 14132: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments And now that I've whinged about it, the phone app is behaving itself! Still not sure I like it any more than before, but maybe I just need to get used to it :-)

Her kisses are more slobbers - she hasn't got the technique right yet but she knows lips against cheek is a kiss :)

Now, what were you saying last night about the update being nice, Valerie!!

What do you mean by the app "badge"? And what did you have on your home screen last night, if it wasn't everyone's comments? It's kind of just like home screen when you open it in the web browser...

message 14143: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 838 comments Yes I spoke too soon Kathryn! I used to have a badge on the app icon that showed how many new updates there were to topics I was following. The home screen just seems a bit weird - it doesn't really feel like home! And still no ability to link books or reply to comments directly grrr

Oh, I see - I don't recall having anything on my GR app icon that showed me how many notifications I had - they didn't show until I opened it up. And they still show then for me - down in the bottom right-hand corner.

And the linking books and replying directly to comments are the things I would most welcome. But as I said, I don't bother with the app most of the time anyway now that I have an iPad - I was probably using the app on my phone more before that, but now it's easier to grab the iPad and use the web browser when I'm at home.

Never mind, maybe those features will come out in the next update... And meanwhile, I'm sure we'll get used to the new app look.

Yes, I tried that Sharon, but no luck. But I have this issue with many apps, so probably just an ipod peculiarity!

message 14148: by Kathryn (new)
