Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments And a (not so early) good morning from me. How lovely to have an extra hour's sleep, Bette!

It's overcast here too. And oddly warm. I'm wondering if it'll become thundery later.

Sleep is so important, I am so glad you got a bit more shut-eye Bette :-)

Random question: has anyone here ever suffered from neck problems and/or pinched nerve? I am trying to self-diagnose something haha!

Do let us know if you find it Marina. Sleep has never been my best friend.

Marina Finlayson | 285 comments I've read it already (short book!). Some good tips, which I'm determined to implement, eg making sure your bedroom is completely dark. My husband is most excited by Chapter 9, which is titled "Have a Big 'O'"!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Hello Early Birds!

I read a very informative article in the AWW this month about mobile phones. Some very scary info about what we agree to when we download apps; did you know some of the more popular apps allows the owners of the apps to use your phone to spy on you? Yes, by agreeing to the T&C, we allow the app providers to listen in to our lives, even when the phone is on idle! They can, for example, hear your partner snoring, listen to your daily F2F conversations, purloin sensitive information from your photos, messages, banking info if you Bpay on your phone and phone conversations!

This is not scaremongering, this is all fact. For the full very enlightening article, buy the AWW this month with Sam Armytage on the cover.

Unread that. I think the one that has the potential to listen to you is the new Facebook Messenger application - which I have refused to buy!!

If you are on Facebook the online version on a PC still has the message function, but the application for smart phones and tablets has lost that function and insist you use their separate message application and link the two.

I'm a stubborn old bat and refused to be forced into anything so won't buy it.

Apparently Facebook has promised they won't use these listening capabilities - my thoughts, if they won't use them why have they included them?

I have. I had a serious neck problem a couple of years ago. I had an MRI and the doctor found I had some bulging discs in my neck. The thought was that I might need surgery. I saw a surgeon and he tried using Prednisolone, which is a steroid. The original dose was not effective, so he increased my dose for one last effort before scheduling surgery. The extra dose works, the discs went back to normal and I have had no trouble since.

That is very scary. How do they get away with this kind of thing? It makes me glad my phone is a dinosaur. It just makes phone calls, no internet capabilities or apps.

Yes, thanks, Sally. I re-read the article and realize I should have put Facebook Msg instead of Candy Crush. I've edited my original text.

But it's still quite alarming, isn't it? I'm glad I've limited what I do on my mobile these days.

Yes it is scary. I play a few games for relaxation on my iPad and it seems more and more of them want you to sign up to Facebook to torment your friends asking them to play in order to get on in the game. I find that other than 'words with friends' I soon delete them as I refuse to hassle my friends. Hubby says the idea is to be social. My argument is I come on goodreads to be social - games are for me to chill out :)

Know that feeling. I have my Library and Information Management Degree and people seem to overlook the word Library and zoom in on Information Management and think I am a database expert!

Thanks for this reply John. I've been having all sorts of odd symptoms that I can only describe as a crawling feeling on my scalp... The physio and doctor couldn't tell me what was wrong. Having a look at some forums, it seems I am indeed NOT going crazy and the common theme seems to be anxiety, neck tension and working at a computer. So really, I am surprised more people don't experience it but at least I know what I can do and don't have to fret that I have a tumor or something!

Thanks for your help :)

The Forgotten Pearl is an amazing story. I read it a while back. Very teary to read for me as I live in Darwin and recognised many of the settings.

It is normal to feel scared and worried. Please find someone professional to talk to - I am pretty certain the defence force has support group - but friends are pretty good too.

My hubby was a policeman for over 20 years and I was permanently worried about whether he would get hurt. I had lots of support and just wouldn't have made it without my girlfriends who I could vent with :)
