Norain Autumn/winter seem to come late this year. It is cold today in Adelaide but the weather had been erratic so I am not surprised if it becomes sunny again next week.

Amber (elfkingdom) | 366 comments Thanks Mish and Brenda :-) just having a quiet one today, mainly me and my younger sister hanging out (since it's her birthday today, too). The whole family and a few friends are coming out to dinner Saturday - which happens to be my oldest sister's birthday!!! lol
But I've been spoilt rotten, which is really nice - and apparently more presents to come, tomorrow and Saturday! I think I"ll turn 30 every year lol :-D

message 5307: by [deleted user] (new)

For tomorrow, who here is going to the dawn service.

New Generation Veterans

We honour our old veterans, we honour them with pride
and read of all the horrors they have carried deep inside.
We know they served in Asia or New Guinea’s highland rains,
Vietnam or in Africa where, many men were slain.

We know that fateful landing on Gallipoli’s dark shore,
wherever Aussies fought, we know there are so many more,
but now a new young generation needs our help as well,
they too have been to war and suffer with their private hell.

Though losses are not classed as great, their fears are just the same
those electronic hidden bombs, still injure, kill or maim.
They fight against an enemy they find so hard to see
who mingle in the market place, then cause much tragedy.

Insurgents in Afghanistan hide in the rough terrain
or roaming in Iraq, where, wearing robes they look the same.
These suicide stealth bombers, don’t care who they hurt or kill,
then, with their own beliefs, they try to break our forces will.

Our fighting Aussie spirit shows on any foreign land,
they’re in the skies, they’re on the sea, or on the desert sand.
Now many are returning with the horrors they still see
and living with their nightmares, suffering bureaucracy.

I know on ANZAC day, we all remember with a tear,
but all vets young or old, they need our help throughout the year,
support and listen to their stories, when they do get told,
lets honour our new veterans, just like we do our old.

A huge thank you goes to a young lady named Talitha Kalago, for without the discussion with her about this issue, my poem would probably not have been written.

Oh, it's nice there!! When we were visiting Cairns & Port Douglas a couple of years ago, we went on the Sky Rail up to Kuranda, and could see Yorkeys Knob from way up high!! There was actually a cruise ship moored there on the day, and we met some of the people from the ship:)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Just saying 'Hello', I'm Margaret, a writer from Sydney. I live with my husband Ronald Sharp, who created The Grand Organ in the Sydney Opera House, as well as organs in Knox Grammar, Perth Concert Hall, Wollongong Town Hall and others. Lately, he's added editing to his repertoire, and has left his stamp on our six published volumes.
We have a few pets. Our most recent addition is an eighteen month old Maltese named Chicki Rose, whom we adopted five months ago from the RSPCA. She is adorable, and so loving. We have two blue budgies, Albert and Victoria, who are little characters.
I love swimming, and have been a member of our local swimming club for thirty years. Currently our local river baths is out of action due to pollution, so we sometimes go to the sea-side instead, and take Chicki Rose. She is keen to see everything!
Ron and I love music, and we play piano and accordion, though not as often as we'd like.

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Interested in Sydney cover bands? Recently, the lead singer of the MO and ACE award nominated group, 'The Bandits', visited our home to talk about his music, and discuss guitar accessories with my organ-builder husband Ron. I've posted an article about this on my WordPress blog margaretlynettesharp, complete with a photo of Paul, me and ChickiRose, our Maltese. Danielle | 33 comments Ok, here goes, does anyone else wish there was a separate GR discussion page for "young adults"? Am I alone in wishing for a home page that isn't full of endless Hunger Games, Harry Potter & Anne of Green Gables discussions? I'm so glad I wasn't here for the Twilight phenomena, I probably would have lost my mind. That said, at least they are reading something. Yes I have read The Hunger Games trilogy, I'm not hating on the books, just the juvenile tone of the Home page.

I just arrived home from an author meet and greet. I met Wendy James author of The Mistake which I read earlier this year, and loved. She also has other books published as well. She lives in Newcastle, and is a really lovely person! It was a pleasure to meet her.
