Jessica-L- | 25 comments Tnx for the help, LDB and Kathryn!! Some great suggestions you came up with! This is a cool task, i like it! :)

message 52: by El (new)

El For privacy purposes will you accept diminutives of names? Like my GR name is a short version of my full first name and I'd prefer to use that.

Here are some other titles to think about if you haven't read them already:
STACEY: Special Topics in Calamity Physics, Lady Chatterly's Lover
CATHERINE: The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane
(sorry, my book linking doesn't seem to be working right now)

If that is allowed, I got by "Kate" which is so much easier to find then "Kathryn".

chucklesthescot I'm so glad I'm called Lynn! This has given me a good few choices for the task.

I am so jealous of your name... I have always hated the spelling of my first name and everything about my middle name (for the task "I am glad my mother didn't name me..." I would totally use "Frances" but my mother did name me "Frances" so it doesn't really work).

Laura | 102 comments El wrote: "For privacy purposes will you accept diminutives of names? Like my GR name is a short version of my full first name and I'd prefer to use that."

Because some GR names, as well as nicknames, are only a letter or two, it kind of defeats the purpose of the task. So, short versions of your name are not accepted without approval for special circumstances. However, for privacy purposes, you can make an anagram out of one of your given names (first, middle or last) (i.e., re-arrange the letters to make a new word/name) and use that. That way, you use the same letters but you are not sharing your real name if there is a reason you are hesitant to do so. I hope that works for you.

See my response to El - I would like to avoid people using shortened names or nick-names unless there is a specific justification for doing so. The "K" and "Y" combination is a bit more difficult but there do seem to be a number of books out there that work.

I had a look at your 'to read' shelf and on the first page there are at least 3 books that fit the letters of your surname ie

The Wedding Officer: A Novel of Culinary Seduction
Impulse & Initiative: What If Mr. Darcy Didn't Take No for an Answer?
Midwife of the Blue Ridge

Your surname would be a better option for this task..

Thanks chuckles. These were all books I just added because of this task. I have to find them first. lol, I just wish I had a nice simple name like Sarah or the normal spellings... lol, I just moved and so the majority of my books are in storage until I can find an apartment/job so the number of books I can use are cut down.

LDB: I totally understand where you are coming from... some people just have harder names to work with. I have dealt with it my whole life. No one can say my last name properly and 9/10 times, my first name is misspelled. But thus is life!

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments Diane, thanks so much. Wow, Bitter is the New Black looks good... I might do that one.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Yeah, it seems like the longer the title (like Bitter is the New Black...!), the better everyone's chances are... Too bad there isn't a book called The Quick Red Fox Jumps Over the Lazy Brown Dog... ;)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments Oh my gosh, I have never heard of the book How to Tell If Your Boyfriend Is the Antichrist: And If He Is, Should You Break Up with Him?, but the title alone is hilarious. I have to look into that! I love the subtitle... wow, definitely added onto my to-read list... then again, I read the book He's Just Not That Into You (The Newly Expanded Edition): The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys based on the title and I hated it...

message 67: by Sara ♥ (last edited Sep 05, 2010 03:48PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments It's a little book I saw at half-price books and looked HILARIOUS! Unfortunately, the hubby was with me and wouldn't let me buy such "drivel"... It was only $3! Anyway, it lists a bunch of different "scenarios"... How to tell if your bf is a zombie; vampire; a robot; renegade cop; a serial killer; a time-traveler from the past; ; etc. and gives practical (read: hilarious) reasons why you should/should not break up with him.... Hahaha... And it's not always the answer you think it would be...

If you do the "Look Inside" thing on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/How-Tell-Your-B...), you can view the table of contents... heehee!

message 68: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments Oh my goodness, your description is funnier than the one goodreads gives. I will definitely have to hunt this book down!

message 70: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) Arrrgh... I like my name. It's pretty, the entire thing flows together really well and in an almost musical way. It's lovely.

Now why in tarnation do I only have maybe 8 books with every letter needed for my first name?! Out of over 200 books on various shelves around the house, my name with nice, common letters in it shows up about 8 times. Actually, there's probably closer to 300 books around the house.

I won't go into my last name, and my middle name I don't think I have the energy to look for every letter in the title of every book.

Yeah I noticed your earlier post about the books being in storage after I posted my message to you! Jeez that is a tough break! Some of the tasks are pretty challenging but would be much harder if not all my books were available to choose from! Good luck!

message 72: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I was lucky, the first book on my shelves I looked at had my initials in it. I'll need to search out a few more alternatives in case I don't finish my first choice and need to go to something else. I've got so much sympathy for those with trickier names though!

Barbara VA (barbarava) I was in a panic when I first saw this task but I found a book after a brief look at my LONG TBR list! My last name is Dietrich so I am going to read School of Essential Ingredients !

B (kristenlovesbooks) Just confirming the kosherness of using "Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1)". It contains all the letters in my first name {Kristen}. Also, thought it was fun that the author's first name is Kristin! Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1)

Kim DeCina (ladyindigo) | 44 comments My name has such weird letters. I've got Kingdom Keepers II: Disney at Dawn on my TBR list for K I M but my full name is K I M B E R L Y E L I S A B E T H D E C I N A, so any of the three are hugely long and hard to fit. :c

ETA: I know it's so late to be doing this, I lost most of my TBR list in a computer crash so I'm redoing it. I've been keeping myself busy with what I remember so far.
