Pat | 1 comments Hi. I'm an author who many years ago had the good fortune to publish a picture book with Houghton Mifflin and a short story with Ladybug Magazine. My career as a university professor (teaching about children's books) took over, and I'm just now back to writing for children and publishing as an independent author. The first book (The House at the Edge of Time) was fun, and I'm looking forward to creating more!

Marcy (marcyoneilldavidson) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Marcy.... I've been a teacher for 15 years (K, 1st and PreK, Preschool director) ...little people...I have 2 children of my own...growing up too quickly- I am thinking of taking some time off to write- but very scared of the process... I know it is no easy feat to be published. I was both a communications and art major in college before settling on education...so I have a little bit of everything in my background.. Looking forward to learning a lot as I pursue this dream!!!!

Bemmygail | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm so glad to join this group, I can meet new people! I am actually a book illustrator, and a 3D Animator. I write books, but haven't seriously published one yet. I am in this business of illustrating picture books for authors, and making a children's youtube channel. I just started with the channel, but illustration has been my work for 6 years. It would be a great pleasure if you check out my gigs here for book illustration:

I'm an author of inspirational books and have recently tried to get my first children's picture book published - co-authored and illustrated. Susan Russell | 2 comments Hi, I've just joined so now I'm introducing myself. After raising a family of three sons, and a career in nursing and complementary therapies, I managed to fulfil my life-long ambition to be a published author in August 2017, when A Jar Full of Angel Feathers was published by Blossom Spring Publishing. A Jar Full of Angel Feathers
I've also revived my childhood love of drawing, and so that book (middle-grade) was illustrated and I'm currently polishing up an illustrated early chapter book for younger readers called Smelly Ellie. I currently live in the Auvergne, France, in a little known and beautiful area of tree-cloaked dormant volcanoes and verdant valleys. We have our own dog, adopted from one of the refuges, and we walk other dogs weekly from our local refuge, A Jar Full of Angel Feathers by Susan Russell A Jar Full Of Angel Feathers by Susan Russell as well as run a Facebook page for them to encourage adoptions.

Anne Laguda | 4 comments Hi, I'm Anne Laguda. I aspire to publish short stories and poems that I have written. I'm a lawyer and I actually don't know what steps to take after I have written a story. My family moved to Togo, West Africa and being in a francophone country has given me a lot of time on my hands...I would love to publish my work. Pleasssse where do I start?

message 765: by Susan (new)

Susan Russell | 2 comments Hi Anne - for UK links you could have a look on the https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/ and ask questions on the community page. You could also buy a copy of The Writers & Artists Yearbook (or subscribe via the website) for lots of advice around writing & publishing. Short stories & poems often go into anthologies, or you could search on-line for competitions. Have fun & good luck, Sue

Charles Obutte | 4 comments Hello Anne. For short stories, what I usually do is to start writing down the story right away as they come even if they don't look perfect initially. Writing is generative and so once you start writing, you will see your creative being begin to flow out as well as new ideas to make the story great. I wish you the best in your creative journey.

Charles

Hi Charles, thanks for the reply. I have written quite a lot. However, I don't know what to do next. How do I get an illustrator? How do I get a publisher? Is publishing capital intensive? How do I get a good editor? How do I bring all these ideas in my head into being?

message 769: by Charles (new)

Charles Obutte | 4 comments Okay you can hire an illustrator and editor at affordable rates from upwork.com. That's what I did. They have expert freelancers there. As regards publishing, you can use the Amazon KDP at https://kdp.amazon.com. I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Charles

Lieve Snellings | 7 comments I am a Belgian photographer-author of children's books who lives 5 months a year in Quebec. My books are picture books, but in stead of drawings my illustrations are full color photos, added with some funy stuff in photoshop.

I am already a time on goodread and even in this group, but I was more a silent member as I don't know how goodreads work. Now I think it is time to find out and do more then only put up reviews I have written, or my own books.

Could anybody of you tell me how I could be more active on goodreads and in this group.
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
Lieve Snellings

Tmo Ma | 2 comments Hello!

My name is Tomoyo.
Quite recently I finally self-published my first little children's book on Kindle store. It took me a while to prepare the materials, learn how to format and place it on the store. I am a Japanese, so I created both Japanese version and English version. It is a little book for babies and little kids. It's a picture book, so paper book is the ideal format, but I found it still very expensive to publish the paper books on my own. If any of you tried "print on demand" function on Amazon store, please let me know about the quality.

Japanese version
English version

Any tips and suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you.
