Courtney, if you can believe it, I think Boy's Life is slightly better than SS! We'll see if you think so when you're done. Both of them are on my list of all time favorites.
I finished Neverwhere and it was awesome! A fun story about London Below which is still on sale in ebook form for 2.99 at Ammy.
I started Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry and I'm looking forward to it.

Hi, Courtney!

Swan Song is one of my favorite novels of all time, too.:) And I really enjoyed Boy's Life.
IMO, anything by McCammon is worth a try.

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Courtney - I just finished "The Five" - which King says is the "best thing MCammons's ever written" - and I have to agree. One of the best books I've read in ages.

I've noticed a lot of people on my friends list reading that one lately. The premise didn't really interest me initially, but all of the five-star ratings have me intrigued. I may have to check it out after all!

For me, King's little blurb is more than enough to intrigue me... though I haven't read it yet..

Dani Landry (danilandry) Pharmacology and Oryx and Crake. I don't like reading two books at once, but Oryx and Crake is for a buddy read and has a deadline :). I'm enjoying both of them. Pharmacology is a pretty neat little package. I'd recommend it. It was $3.99 on Kindle I think.

Zach Ireland (zire) | 4 comments Im reading Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven. Its about a comet hitting Earth and the survivors afterwards I guess. I'm not very far into it, but it seems good so far.

message 2262: by Char (new)

Char I liked Lucifer's Hammer! I reread it not that long ago.

Library Lady 📚 | 91 comments Just finished Godless by Pete Hautman . About to start Boy A, which apparently is not on Goodreads. Hmmm...

That is a 2-hanky 5 Star read. It had me from the first chapter. I hope you enjoy it. It is now one of my favorites!

Started World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War last night and already I am hooked in. Nothing like a little zombie to brighten up your life... HA!

Hi Alondra,

I read World War Z a few years back and loved it.

I've heard nothing but great stuff about The Book Thief and am hoping to get to it sometime this year.

I haven't read it yet...but I would be pissed off (sorry if that offends anyone, but books are special), if someone stole a copy of one of my books. I only found out yesterday I had let this elderly lady I used to work with borrow one of my favorite books of all-time, (She's Come Undone), and all this time, I was going crazy thinking someone had stolen it. ha!

message 2272: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Yeah, i'll get it there eventually. Gotta finish something first. Currently have 3 books started.

Then I started The Sisters Brothers. I really like it so far.

WWZ is one of my all time favorites. I'm going to be rereading it soon just because I feel in need of a 5-star book this year and yet to have one!

Dani Landry (danilandry) The best part about WWZ is that it's not REALLY about zombies. I loved this book.

Denis Pedersen | 44 comments After some really major disappointments I've started reading "The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson ... I'm a couple of hundred pages in, and I love it! :-)

The major disappointments I've read in the last couple of weeks is The Passage (which was just "bleh", not really bad per se, but definitely not worth 1000 pages), The Night Circus (which was outright bad - jup it sucked big time) and World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War (which was just a bore, an example of a good idea turned wrong).

Anyways, so far I love The Way of Kings, if the rest of the book is as good as the first 200 pages I might have read a conteder for best read of the year for me :-)

Wow! You're the FIRST, (I'm serious!) person I've seen or talked to, to review The Night Circus so low! I haven't read it yet, but definitely plan to. As for the Passage....I am so with you! I actually stopped reading it. I really, really tried to like it, but...it went to my "started, but never finished" pile. :/ Happy reading!

message 2284: by Denis (last edited Mar 02, 2012 09:24AM) (new)

Denis Pedersen | 44 comments I too really, really tried to like the Passage, but just couldn't get into it... As for the ending, it wasn't very rewarding, and I can say for sure that I will NOT be reading the sequel...

I also went really openminded into the reading of The Night Circus, but it was a major let down for me at least... But it might be different for you of course ;)

Frankly, he has no reason to lie about it. None of his other books inject any right-leaning politics into them. It's just his take on what some people see as the way the world is leaning. I find it hard to believe he would write such a book and lie about it not containing his political views. He had to know what criticism was coming.

Gatorman | 561 comments Holly wrote: "It sounds like you guys really didn't like that book. I think I might have to check it out and see if it's as bad as you guys say it is."

You should read it. I liked it a lot and not because of the political slant it takes. It's a very good mystery/thriller.

That's on my to-be-read list! I hope its better than you're saying...I haven't really seen anyone else read it, so I haven't been too sure about it. If that makes sense.
