Haydensdad | 73 comments Still trying to finish Blood of the Fold but the book hasn't dragged me in so I moved onto something else. Going to try again this week, my goal is to finish it by Monday.

message 4603: by Traci (new)

Traci Reading Giant Thief. It's okay for a fun sword and sorcery style book. One of those read and enjoy, and then forget them books.

message 4604: by Laura (new)

Laura (booksbytheflame) Whoo! Getting through quite a number of books this year :) I would like to thank the train ;)
I've finished The Magicians' Guild and now I'm reading Life Of Lee :) I know it's not fantasy, but I think he's brilliant XD

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 357 comments I'm finally getting around to Retribution Falls. :D

Jalilah I am a few chapters into Firebird by Mercedes Lackey and really enjoying it thus far. I have been into fairy tale re-telling lately. This book is based on the Russian fairy tale, which is very similar to the Grimm’s fairy tale the Golden Bird. The only other Mercedes Lackey books I read we were from the Elemental Masters series and I did not like them that much. I like her writing her a lot more this time. (yes, I know the Valdimar books are supposed to be the best and they are on my list along with the Fairy God mother series)

message 4607: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Getting one or two shorter books off my eShelves before hitting a long awaited fantasy in Croatia (me in croatia, not the setting of the book). Just read The Insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu and now just starting The Mystery of Edwin Drood, the area is based on Rochester, Kent - 30 minutes walk from me :)

I really enjoyed Firebird, IIRC. I haven't read it in years though.

One of my all-time favorites. Helped keep my sanity in check during many a finals week in my Bachelor's.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Just started Thirteen yesterday. It started slow but I was finally getting interested by chapter 3. Hope it stays interesting.

Also got Night of the Living Trekkies from the library. So far I haven't been a big part of the "Zombie Plague" book, movie, video game, etc. movement...but had to try this one.

message 4622: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (rocktopusjones) | 338 comments Mike, you'll like this. I'm re-reading Sheepfarmer's Daughter. Last time I read it was years ago, so it's nice to rediscover a great book.

Traci Reading The Way of Kings, even though I consider myself a Sanderson fan this is my third attempt to finish this monster book, not the size has been my problem.

message 4626: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (punchdrunklove) | 43 comments So I started The Dragonlance Legends- Time of the Twins The Annotated Legends and it seems pretty good so far (I'm on page 25=]). I bought this book years ago and I am just starting to read it now. It's the annotated version, but I really like reading what the authors thoughts were when they were writing about a certain character or the use of symbolism in the story. The authors insights are pretty cool!

I've actually had the second one on my shelf for a while, and never got around to reading it. I just figured I'd start at the beginning. Plus, the cover art for her new books in the series look awesome, and I'm a sucker for elven kingdoms.

message 4630: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Oh yeah, Sheepfarmer's Daughter then Divided Allegiance then Oath of Gold. They very much tell a story each picking up where the last left off.

Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Doing some rereads, the Dresden books and think I'll reread the Paksenarrion trilogy then finish the latest trilogy. I'm also reading Armor, been meaning to get to it for some time.

message 4633: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 861 comments I'm finishing up the Farseer Trilogy with Assassin's Quest. Very enjoyable series, and I love Fitz and Nighteyes.

message 4634: by Gavin (new)

Gavin | 20 comments I'm reading ( Well, listening actually! ) to Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold. It's been a rather slow start, but my expectations are still sky high.

The first book in the series, The Curse of Chalion, was one of the best fantasy books I've read in the last five years or so, and it had a similarly slow start.

I'm also listening to Divergent by Veronica Roth. It's not like me to to have two books on the go at the same time but I grabbed the wrong mp3 player on the way to work this morning.
It should be interesting to see which book grabs my attention the most.

How do you like it? I found that I liked the world and mythology of the book more than I liked the actual story itself and the characters. It's a favorite though.

I'm enjoying it a lot. I've always wanted to read it since I saw the mini series on the Sci-Fi channel years ago

message 4641: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I finally started reading Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings--yay! It's pretty interesting so far, the magic system involved kind of reminds me of the system in Mistborn: The Final Empire but the story's shaping up to be quite epic. Looking forward to reading how everything plays out =)

It's too bad Syfy didn't do the 4th book, God Emperor of Dune. That one's my favorite of the series. If you plan on reading the whole series you'll see it goes through some big changes. Surprising changes, but good. This guy thinks of things that I'm not even capable of.

I like how, up to the second book anyway as far as I've read, Herbert gives an honest look of the life of a messiah through Paul. He might not be a completely likable character. But I love the themes of faith and prophecy that he brings up.

Love that book. Cute satirical look at all the fantasy tropes. If you like this have you tried The Unhandsome Prince, or anything by this author really.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) No, I haven't Traci. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

carol. | 2616 comments Working on The Way of Kings and really enjoying it the thoroughness of the story-building and the characters. Almost feels like a book I should just be reading a chapter or two a night to prolong it.
