I'd like to belatedly request an email with this story.

Jennifer (alanthiana) Just finished The Wise Man's Fear. Almost finished with The Hunger Games. Trudging my way through Furies of Calderon... it's starting to go a little faster, but I've really had trouble getting into it.

message 1653: by Rusty (new)

Rusty Jennifer: How did you like Wise Man? I loved The Hunger Games and have Furies of Calderon on my shelf to read, too.

You got it, Denae. I had a kinda rough night so I failed to share my story but I'll be sure to get it done today

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I did not finish World War Z since it was all interviews making the story come together in differnet pieces. I wished the book was more like a novel. So I am doing a reread of A Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan.

message 1656: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) right now I'm reading The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. I haven't gotten all that far, but it's pretty awesome.

message 1657: by [deleted user] (new)

Are the Percy Jackson books good? I keep thinking that reading a YA book would be like having a conversation with someone who is dumbing down their language to me.

This may not be all that accurate I admit, since I've never really read much YA, but it's the way I see YA for some reason.

message 1658: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments I see it more as reading something from which I expect nothing other than a hopefully interesting story.

You can read it when you want it does not spoil anything for any of the books in the WOT. It's about Moirane and Lan's search for the Dragon Reborn.

Today i bought The Curse of Chalion and Dragon Haven.

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 861 comments I'm currently reading Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr. It's not bad, but I'm not sure if I like it as much as I did Wicked Lovely.

message 1661: by mark (last edited Apr 30, 2011 03:22PM) (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments i bought Curse of Chalion recently. it looks good.

i have no idea why i keep buying books when i have over a hundred that i still have to read. it is like some kind of horrible addiction. much like an addiction, i think it has (minor) social ramifications as well. sometimes my neighbors will be around the firepit in the backyard & yelling for me or will text me to hang out and drink the rest of the night away, and i'll just continue sitting there in my armchair pretending i don't hear them or that i didn't get the text. sigh. even now, when i should be en route to a bbq, i am instead here on GR. what's wrong with me? i think i like books more than people.

at least my cat must understand! surely she appreciates the copious lap time. actually, she just gave me a very understanding look. good cat. or was it a look that is saying Get Out of Here, Go to that BBQ, i need some me-time!

message 1662: by [deleted user] (new)

Dude... bbq.

Take your book with you

message 1663: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments okay, i'm leaving now!

message 1664: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I can understand. I do the same thing. I have a friend at work who always wants to go out for drinks at the bar and whatnot, but I always turn him down so I can catch up on my reading.

I'm becoming quite the hermit.

Robert MacAnthony (steerpike7) | 218 comments Just started Before They Are Hanged. Ended up liking the first book of the trilogy much better once I got to the second half. Good stuff.

Robert MacAnthony (steerpike7) | 218 comments Adrienne:

Yeah, hard to top Kristin Cashore for YA.

message 1667: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Adrienne :)

I think I already have Graceling and Hunger Games on my TBR list. Hopefully I'll get to them sometime this century.

R. Scott, all the First Law books are great. Try the stand-alones when you're done with the trilogy.

message 1668: by Robert (new)

Robert MacAnthony (steerpike7) | 218 comments I read Best Served Cold before The Blade Itself, and so far that remains my favorite. Looking forward to Heroes.

message 1669: by [deleted user] (new)

Heroes is a bit different in style to the others. I personally still enjoyed it, though your mileage may vary.

message 1670: by C.M. (new)

C.M. Barrett (elfspirit) | 68 comments I'm reading Wolf's Blood by Jane Linskold. I've liked the series, but maybe I've been away from it for too long, because I'm seriously confused. Possibly, too, my recent mainlining of Terry Pratchett has ruined me for more sober stuff.

message 1671: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm...I think you and I are the only ones here who've read Lindskold, C. Exactly what are you confused about? Perhaps I could give you some clarity

message 1672: by Robert (new)

Robert MacAnthony (steerpike7) | 218 comments I have three or four of Linskold's books :)

message 1673: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol...welcome to the minority, R. Scott. You know I feel silly referring to you as R. or R. Scott so henceforth you're Scott :)

message 1674: by Robert (new)

Robert MacAnthony (steerpike7) | 218 comments Scott is just fine. When I filled out my profile I didn't realize it would show up this way. Could always change it I suppose.

I'm not sure why more people don't know Linskold's work.

message 1675: by [deleted user] (new)

I enjoy her. She's never been very popular but I thought the Firekeeper series rather good

message 1676: by Rusty (new)

Rusty I, too, am a Linskold fan. Bet there are more fans hiding out there.

message 1677: by [deleted user] (new)

Well good :) maybe we can bring them out of the woodworks ;) I think I'll nominate her for the Epic Fantasy read next month

message 1678: by [deleted user] (new)

Never heard of her.

Give me a rec by her to add to my TBR mountain, please :)

message 1679: by [deleted user] (new)

You're going to make me regret telling you about that caret, aren't you?

message 1680: by [deleted user] (new)

Through Wolf's Eyes is the first book in the Firekeeper series :)

message 1681: by [deleted user] (new)

4/5, self?

Will definitely add it to my very next order of books then :)

Thanks so much for the offer. I'm now halfway through the book, and the backstory (5 books worth of it) is now returning. The series is dense with characters, different forms of life, and many, many countries. Could be that Wolf's Blood, as the last in the series, gets especially dense because all the story lines are getting wrapped up.

On the plus side, I love the concept of a human raised by wolves who identifies as one.(Some nice pix on author's website of herself with wolves). I kind of wish she would continue this series. I was not so impressed with her latest one that begins with Thirteen Orphans.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I am reading Atwood's famous novel The Handmaid's Tale.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm reading The Black Company still, The Redemption of Althalus, 1984, and a few other books hanging around to be finished (God only knows which ones they are). I've got so many books in progress right now that everywhere I look there is a book to read. :-)

message 1690: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with you C. I didn't care for her newer novel either and truth be told, I didn't really think the last novel gave a satisfying conclusion. There's alot of room for future books should she ever have the desire.

I haven't finished it yet, but I can see it would take a lot of fancy footwork to wind it up in a satisfying way. I'd love to see more in this series.

message 1695: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 730 comments I am finally starting on The Black Company and am re-reading The Name of the Wind for a read in a different group. Almost finished with Bitter Gold Hearts

message 1696: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I hope you like The Black Company, Maggie. I like it. It reminds me a lot of Erikson's work. You can tell that Erikson was influenced by it, anyway.

message 1697: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 730 comments oh very much so Jason. and I am sure it's because I am so used to Malazan that it is not confusing me. Not that it makes sense, but you know what I mean...lol

message 1698: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I get ya! This stuff is a breeze compared to Erikson. LOL

I'm just sorta floating along, letting the book go where it may. Doesn't make for very interesting reading but I'm not struggling at the moment.
