message 1502: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Ha there's a small gap between Todd and I that's aroung 2 1/2 years and I ran into lots of age related issues like with going out too. Lol but he talked me into drinking for the first time when I turned 21 lol( he had a few years more experience than me at that point).

message 1503: by [deleted user] (new)

Heh..when my dad was fighting the Battle of the Bulge in WWII, my mom was being born. Age is just a number as they say ;)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Two fake ids coming up, lol.

message 1505: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Just finished A Game of Thrones, which was even better the second time through. Now I'm going to read Fool Moon and maybe The Light Fantastic as well, to switch it up a little, before continuing on to A Clash of Kings.

I enjoyed Game of Thrones, but am not a big Harry Dresden fan. I've read through #3. Everyone says it gets better after that.

I've been futsing around trying to decide what to read next. Settled on Burndive. It's good so far.

message 1507: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) I liked #1, I'm hoping #2 will be just as good.

message 1523: by [deleted user] (new)

They don't let you have books immediately when you're arrested. Bastards.

On a side note does anyone know if all of the SFBC's books are smaller in stature than a typical hardcover or is it just their exclusive books that are of a smaller size?

message 1524: by Jason (last edited Apr 21, 2011 05:39PM) (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Grant, I'm not sure about the specifics, but when Canada had it's SFBC club, their books were usually smaller in stature than typical hardcover. They print it themselves, I believe. Occasionally, however, they'll send out the actual hardcover book from the real publisher. Usually with new releases or books that won't always be in their catalogue. I could never tell which was what when ordering from their catalogue, though.

message 1525: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Jason and Tracey. I suppose I'll stick to ordering books that are exclusive to them

message 1526: by Laura (new)

Laura (booksbytheflame) Maggie, with this tequila business, considering the age limit in Australia is 18, do I abide by that or do I have to suffer like everyone else and wait till 21 because that would not be nice. I'm 18 next August and I can just smell the tequila coming from Ala's breath.

message 1527: by [deleted user] (new)

Mmm...tasty

You'll have to go back and get the original Timothy Zahn Heir to the Empire set. They are really good.

message 1534: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I think I have a few fingers of the tequila left. You can have it, Laura. I'm too hungover to even look at it. LOL

message 1535: by [deleted user] (new)

I like that. Alcohol: One of the few things where the cause of the consequences are also the cure.

And Jason, I'll have to check with Maggie before I get any tequila :(

message 1538: by C.M. (new)

C.M. Barrett (elfspirit) | 68 comments I'm having a truth is stranger than fiction reading moment. You may have heard about Oscar, the cat in a nursing home who knows when people are going to die and stays with them until they do.

The book is called "Making the Rounds with Oscar," written by an originally sceptical doctor at the nursing home (who doesn't even like cats). He eventually becomes a believer. Nice writing, great story. If you love cats, you'll be nuts about Oscar.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I just started reading Sorceress of Darshiva - for some reason I had the urge to read the Malloreon. This is book 4 and once finish 5 I'm trying to decide between Dresdon #3, Iron Kissed, Dragon Mage, or the Redemption of Althalus. Or Moon over Soho or Daemons are Forever, or Monster Hunter #2.

:-D

So many people just loved that one M, and I just didn't see it...but I decided to re-read it since it is the BotM on another site...hopefully I will like it better this time!

I agree. Have you read her other novel "Graceling"? I found that one to be even better.

I have. I thought both were excellent but I preferred FIRE by a slight margin. I am looking forward to BITTERBLUE.

After her first two novels, Cashore goes on a fairly short list of authors whose work I will now buy when it comes out, whatever it is :)

message 1550: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I finished this week, Royal Assassin, Wise Man's Fear, with just finishing Assassin's Quest a few minutes ago. now picking up Golden Fool to read, but only have read the summary on Wikipedia and parts of the first book.
