I tried reading on the treadmill when I was a kid and working out, but it didn't work...too much bounce. I see people doing this all the time at the gym I belong to, though, so I was considering trying it. It might work on the sit-bike since I'm not jiggling up and down; that'd probably be the best place to start. The iPod movie thing works really well, though, even if people give me funny looks when I start snickering. It's not my fault that MST3K is awesome!

Petra & Ms Anderson,
Just an idea.... download audiobooks on your ipod to listen to while you work out! I've been doing this & listening to them while I hike (although I can't hike this time of year... live in AZ... WAY TOO HOT) it helps complete tasks for the challenge & it makes the hike very enjoyable. I find I can hike longer since my mind is on the story I'm listening to & not how tired my body is! Also, I can pop the audiobook on in the car on my way to work!

A. I read Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern

B. My own Dad said some very funny things to us growing up, my brothers and Dad have a very sarcastic wit, and they can be very potically incorrect. We were always laughing about something one of them said at the dinner table.

Task 20.6

Face the Fire by Nora Roberts
Face the Fire (Three Sisters Island trilogy #3) by Nora Roberts

For most people, this is definitely not a must-read. However, if you have read the first 2 in the trilogy, which I did for other tasks in the Challenge, you do need to read this to know how it all ends. It doesn't particularily stand on its own as a book - you need the background to really get it.

Tami | 296 comments 15.9 He Who Knows Himself...
A. Read Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner. I originally was searching for a title I thought described me in some way and laughed out loud when I saw another reader who picked this one. I thought it was fitting since I am a newlywed and all...

B. How does the main character remind you of yourself, or not? Trying not to put in a spoiler, the main character Cannie, is actually a "larger woman" with image issues, a broken home, etc. I have had my moments of feeling too large compared to friends, but don't find that much of an issue at this point in my life. I really connected with her description and feelings of abandonment by her father who left her family when she was a teen and the feelings she had about comments people made to her about her weight or how she looked.
I have to say this is my first seasonal challenge and I have read several great books that I would have not picked up if not for the challenges this season. Thanks for that.

I am a 5 (my maiden name was Angela Nicole Hailey)

For part A, I read Scars by GoodReads author Cheryl Rainfield who is also a 5.

For part B, I read Amy & Roger's Epic Detour. The main character, Amy, exhibits 2 of the traits of a five: adventure and the constructive use of freedom. She embarks on a road trip with a guy she barely knows, is open to knew experiences, and explores the country. She also uses her freedom on the road to begin to heal from her Dad's death and also to reconnect with her estranged twin brother.

You might need to do a little toiling for this task but I don't think you will have too much trouble. On August 7,1606 William Shakespeare's Macbeth was performed publicly for the first time (at the Great Hall at Hampton Court). In honor of this event and this famous line you will need to read 2 books that...

A. Have the same title but are written by different authors (EXAMPLE: Twilight AND Twilight)
OR
B. Have very similar covers...(EXAMPLE: & )

I read Chosen and Chosen The Chosen by Chaim Potok

Chosen The Lost Diaries of Queen Esther 480-465 BC by Ginger Garrett

Jennifer (jml_417) Task #30.5 - Virtual Block Party - My recipe is Strawberry Bars and it's posted in the recipe thread (Post #38). This recipe stands out because it's a twist on the classic date square recipe, using strawberries instead of dates. Plus, the squares smell AMAZING! I always get compliments and they're one of the first desserts to go when I take them to a function. LOVE them! :)

For this task, I read Strawberry Shortcake Murder by Joanne Fluke for Part A (strawberry is an ingredient from my recipe) and Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, also by Joanne Fluke for Part B (a novel with recipes)

Rachel 20.6 List Maker

I read It Had to Be You the Gossip Girl prequel by Cecily Von Ziegesar. If you are into that series it is a definite must read. In general, maybe not a book to top everyone's to-read list. The book describes many events alluded to in original series books. I would also recommend reading it after you have read through the series, otherwise it won't make as much sense or be as entertaining. I wouldn't call this book a must-read for everyone, I can think of many people it probably wouldn't appeal to. But for GG fans, it is a must!

10.2 The Man Who Would Be King and Other Stories by Rudyard Kipling

15.3 The Garden of Last Days: A Novel by Andres Dubus III.

It was on a blog here: http://blog.oregonlive.com/books/2008.... This was my first Dubus and it was a very depressing one. I didn't like any of the characters, but I couldn't wait to see where it was going. It has a very dark mood to it and it was interesting in the mood shift after September 11th occurs in the book. It's the first book related to Sept 11th I've read and I think Dubus handled it well, but overall was not my type of book.

Petra Another task completed: Task 25.8 (Once Upon a Time)

For this task I read Stardust by Neil Gaiman (368 pgs) and Bound by Donna Jo Napoli (186 pgs).

I enjoyed both books. They were both fun and interesting stories.
Stardust tells the tale of a half-mortal, half-fairy young man on a quest to find a fallen star. Along the way he finds adventure, friendship, love, enemies and the truth of his beginnings.
It's a cute story and a fun book to read. It's a perfect beach read or lazy afternoon in the sun book.
It's an adult fairy tale including a sex scene. I mention this only for those who may want to read this story to their children.

Bound is a wonderful retelling of Cinderella, set in Ming Dynasty China.

5.2 Blockbuster Books
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
(It has vampires in it and I'm looking forward to seeing Eclipse at some point)
I loved this! I read Club Dead last year and thought it was so-so, but I decided to give the series another try from the start and this was really good. I'll have to read some more now :)

Double hooray for Pjreads -- but a question: what does the post listing "goodreads authors" and people names on the readerboard link mean?
