Okay. You have your opinions we have ours. We're not trying to take that away. And when we counter-act with "We love HP!" Then if you don't like it, just ignore those comments. Make sense right?

Kaleigh - Captain Bubbles ESTP(intj) Arti wrote: "YOU DON'T LIKEHARRY POTTER!!!!!"

Arti, calm down. Yes Anna doesn't like HP. She doesn't have to. The world isn't going to end. There are still lot's of HP fans out there.

Lynx WOW! these discussions REALLY get off topic sometimes!! I've read the first book and I liked it. I LOVE percy jackson books!!!(even though I'm only reading the first one). I think even thought this is a popular discussion topic, I think it's a stupid thing to do, all it's doing is insolting people!!!!

Ugh I completely respect your opinion, but I can't believe you seriously like Twilight better than Harry Potter. IMO Twilight is a really average, over the top love story that was nonetheless fun to read, but pathetically average. (with a TERRIBLE fourth book). Harry Potter is so much more complex and the characters are so much more stronger in the sense that they have flaws, strengths, and weaknesses.

Veronica I'm one who likes the Harry Potter story line but I did not like most of the movies and J.K. Rowling's writing was just not at my level. Maybe if I had read the books when I was like 8, like most fans, I would have loved the series but I read most of them when I was around 15. Her level off writing was way to low/young for my standards. There didn't seem to be a wide vocabulary and the descriptions weren't up to par with my standards. The first "real" book series I ever read was "Twilight" when I was 14 and I was completely addicted! After that, I went to the book store often and pretty much bankrupt my parents haha. After reading so many books, I recognized that Stephanie's writing level was also not that great and there were a few typos throughout the books. I was just so enamored by the story that I didn't notice at the time. So yes, I agree that Harry Potter is not that great.

I went and saw "The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2" yesterday and I have to say, I was disappointed with it. It didn't seem to flow well, their were some awkward/random moments that didn't really need to happen as they did and I really didn't like the lack of dialogue (even though that is usually expected of a movie filled with that much action).

Julz Rulz Personally, i feel that the HP books have better writing in them than Twilight did. Stephanie seemed vague, and its kinda funny cause i basically think the opposite of what you just said. :D I think that the Twilight books were definitely teen related, but the way they were written made it sound really childishy cuz of the non-descriptive stuff, and the fact that there wasn't much uniqueness to the story line. I mean, I've heard of TONS of stories with the exact story line. But with HP-i mean, it's just sooooo creative that some woman could make all that stuff up-i think its incredible, and i personally feel that she has AMAZING writing talent-even if they were books for the kids section.

message 713: by Shanna (new) - rated it 3 stars

Shanna Dodd I bought into the initial hype of Harry Potter. I bought the first book for my sons. Neither of them liked it. I read it. Laboriously read it. It is one of the most poorly written books I've ever read. Twilight is another poorly written book. The movies, the world Rowling created is wonderful. She simply can't write and I find it disturbing that her books reached the level of popularity they have. It makes me question the literacy of the world we live in and the attention we do NOT give to our children. "Yay, they're reading." If it's crap, grammatically and structurally crap, why would we want them to read it? I am proud to say my children have better taste.

message 714: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Haha Shanna. I like what you said :) I think it was so popular because it was an easy read so people with relatively busy schedules could read it fast or over a long period of time without getting lost.

message 715: by Prerak (new) - rated it 4 stars

Prerak True enough that Harry Potter seem to be babbling nonsensical at many times, but I didnt find any reason to hate it for that?
well, KIMBERLY, u seem to be a Twilight fan, and I hate it. Though on a more logistic note, Twilight was a stretched, dragging, and PLOT-LESS novel. I have enough reasons for saying that, dont worry.

Well, for my LOVE for Potter is indeed unbridged and unqualfied, I believe the PLOT deserves a waaayyyyy better applause than MOST of the Fantasy Books. Its characters were MORE HUMANE, and seemed realisitc...indeed if u are reading a Fantasy, u dont expect a Rational approach at everything, but still, there were ENOUGH RATIONALITIES in the book even after it was Fantasy. Moreover, the VILLAIN, Lord Voldemort was, IS, still the BEST VILLAINOUS character I have read in my life. He was ULTIMATE.
For me, all those people who HATE Potter and STILL love Twilight...well, guys, either U R JUST TRYING TO PROVE IT BAD or maybe you are among those SWOONING GIRLS WHO REACH THE TOP OF THEIR BREATHS WHEN THEY READ ABOUT EDWARD, apart from that, DONT TELL ME TWILIGHT IS BETTER THAN POTTER! Hell NOOOOO!

and for others, well, guys, its a Fantasy Book...I guess if U didnt like Potter, U would have Hated Lord of the Rings and Narnia as well....

You're welcome :D There are many reasons why I love HP but that's just one of them.
Anyway, yes I read the first Percy Jackson and enjoyed it very much, but I wasn't a fan of Sea of Monsters so I just stopped reading the series. But I do plan on picking them up again because I heard it gets a lot better.

I have to say though i do like harry potter better then twilight

Wrathsqueen I tried to read the 1st book when I was 9 and I can honestly say I couldn't get into it and so didn't finish but I am thinking of re-reading it and seeing if it was just a matter of not liking it then.

Anna ♥☻☺♫♪ yeah everyone else thinks its a terrible opinion and why do we think harry potter is bad but thats just our opinionand everyone has there own. some ppl are madly in love with hp, some ppl think its ok but they've read better and some just hate it like me

message 720: by Jen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen Some people are annoying when it comes to HP :p like it's their whole lives, but they don't realize how much other good stuff is out there. Like some people said, PJ and IMO The Mortal Instruments is also amazing.

Kaleigh - Captain Bubbles ESTP(intj) Anna♥☻☺♫ wrote: "lol ya thank u"

Your welcome. And Kimberly the reason why I love Harry Potter is that it is fun with all the magic, and the chapters, characters, the plot, the way it's written and the story over all. Harry Potter was the first series I've read, the first book over 500 pages I've read, and the first fantasy book series I've ever read. Harry Potter was just inspiring to me. That's is my reason/opinion.

Kaleigh - Captain Bubbles ESTP(intj) Polite about what? I didn't see anything wrong with your comment/opinion.

I dont thing they're poorly written. At has British slang in it, but it isn't poorly written. I think ROwling was an inspriation for more writers to come out. In some respects, i AM worried about some of the ways that literature is headed, but conserning HP, im not worried. At All. And there wan't any grammatical errors in sentence structure at all.

message 724: by Julz (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julz Rulz Twilght is a whole other story, though. Im a Twilight HATER. And ur kids may not have liked HP, but it IS common for some ADULTS to not be interested in the HP books. Thus, they're in the CHILDREN section. (Sorry-im just an hp luver, can't help but get defensive.)

message 725: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Yeah, I think the main reason kids love it so much is because it may be the first book/series that they have read so far in their lives. With teens and adults, most have read at least a handful of books throughout their lives so they may have better material to compare Harry Potter too. Same with Twilight. I know I loved it so much because it was my first book/series but I've read so much since then that no I ask myself "what was I thinking?"...

message 726: by Mik (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mik Vargas In my humble opinion Harry Potter is a good saga of books because I read it when I was a child and when I was young. If you can't hate it I don't care but you must respect the opinion of other people.

message 727: by Nurlely (last edited Jul 24, 2011 07:05PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nurlely I think adults love HP too. I know 3 persons above 50 who are quite crazy about the series. One of their reasons is HP is well written. It made us believe there is another world out there. It makes sense to believe HP than other fantasy novels.

I can not understand why people hate HP but surely readers can choose what to feel about certain books.

But it is weird to prefer Twilight than HP. The fantasy world in Twilight is a mess. Stephenie can not even keep her opinion regarding pregnancy by vampire.

I didn't do that. It's a 'fact' to them, but, a 'false' to you. Same difference. Just let the flow go.

I quote SOMETIMES from the books. It's just I have a HORRIBLE memory, so I can't, even if I wanted to.

Nurlely Kimberly wrote: "Um...
HP's not well written..."

Since you hate it, it is quite obvious that you would give all bad remarks to HP series.

However, millions of people think otherwise, as also lecturers and teachers who suggest HP for their students' reading material.

So it is a mere opinion of yours.

message 745: by Prerak (new) - rated it 4 stars

Prerak @ Kimberly, I am sorry if I got fired up earlier. Sorry. But Yes, I have my own reasons to hate Twilight, and my reasons correspond with millions. But when it comes to Potter, the issue is the other way round. As Nurlely said, even lecturers recommend it.
and well, its opinion true...but to say that HP is not well written, is strange...because I and along with me, many novelists too believe that J.K. Rowling is a Master at Writing. especially Dialogues.
well, about, Percy Jackson...well, I am not kidding, but actually, its considered to be a CHILD-FICTION like Alice in the Wonderland...and to be frank, it was juvenile.
When it comes to House of Night, and Vampire Academy, they are PARANORMAL ROMANCES and NOT fantasy.
I guess you need to read Lord of the Rings or any such Great Fantasy Book and then Read Potter again. If you hate Fantasy, well...then read nothing and stick to Twilight.
Fantasy has to be dealt like Fantasy and by Fantasy Readers Only. Just an opinion, again. :-)

message 746: by Nurlely (last edited Jul 26, 2011 07:47AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nurlely I just removed my previous comment. My friend reminded me of Troll on the net.

Nurlely Kimberly wrote: "@Nurlely, OKay, and what stats do you have that state lovers of the BOOK, not the movie? Based on how many copies have sold, that's not an indication of how many people liked J.K. Rowling's work. It's just the people who said, "give me a try." We don't know. Half of those people could have hated it. We just don't know. "

Err...I suppose I was late with my previous respond.

Okay Kimberly. If the people just 'tried', so it must be only book 1 they bought. Unless they are some kind of readers who prefer to torture themselves by constantly reading the next books, ones they hate. But the great number of the HP series selling is not only book 1 but the whole 7 books.

Kimberly wrote: "And how about those millions of people who can't even read? It doesn't mean they hate it but it doesn't mean they love it..."

Why don't you add the blinds or the infants?
The numbers of us who love HP series could be seen from how many copies HP were sold. I prefer not to add ones who only borrow the books or bought the second hand ones. Nope! I prefer to stick to the valid number, not my imaginary statistic.

Kaleigh - Captain Bubbles ESTP(intj) Wow. You guys are going in deep with this conversation. Better slow down or else......You know. Oh well. I personally love Harry Potter. My whole family does. Including my extended relatives on both sides of my family. So there's about 200 there. But, some of my friends don't HATE HP, but, they haven't ever read or seen it. Still, I would say this to be fair...: There are 3 kinds of people that live in this world; the ones that LOVES HP, DISLIKES HP, or HATES HP. There you go. So I would say there's about 3 billion HP lovers, 2 billion HP dislikers, and 2 billion HP haters.

Kaleigh - Captain Bubbles ESTP(intj) She's not saying that. She's just saying a LOT a LOT of people like HP.
