Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter?
Elena (Scarstar of Arrowclan) wrote: "Siana, I love making up my own clans, I started a discussion on warriors. WARRIORS ROCKS!!!"Ahhh, the cat books. There are lots of books with clans, a few of which I adore, so I was curious. I think the people in the south in the Maria V. Snyder Study
books were clans and there are clans, though not with special names, in the Demon King series,
by Cinda Williams Chima, so I supposed it was a spinoff of something of the sort. :) You should read those books, they're totally amazing in everyway. :D
Siyana wrote: "I beg to differ. I detest this book with a passion. I am 100% with the creator. I can't really explain my hatrid for theese books, I just do. This book series, originally designed for younger child..."Siyana, I appreciate your honesty. Its refreshing to have someone state their negative feelings about a book without having feeling they have to justify it to a bunch of other folks. Good for you.
I loved the first Harry Potter book. Each other one that came out I felt less enchanted. But I read it again and again as pure escape-ism. I read Robert Ludlum for the same reason. Completely unbelievable, but one does not need to fully engage one's brain to enjoy the read. In fact, it helps if you don't. Which might justify the view that only an idiot would enjoy the books. I don't agree with this view, but it might make sense to some ....
I don't think the people that read it are idiots, I just think J.K. Rowling isn't the brightest. She also can't get out of the Harry Potter world. Everyone hates Twilight, but they don't give Stephanie Meyer credit. She admitted that her books weren't child appropriate, and didn't tell parents to suck it up. They were young adult books to start with. She also managed to create quite a controversy with edward vs. Jacob. If you've seen the extreme version of this "conflict" in Vampires Suck ("Team Jacob, bitch!") Or the not as extreme, but still comical SNL skit, ("How can I ever trust her scientific conclusions if she prefers Jacob to Edward? Jacob smells. He smells like a wet dog.") There have been legit fights over this. The only controversy the Harry Potter books have caused is whether they are appropriate for young children. As I recently pointed out. Yes, sparkling vampires may be idiotic, but there is controversy, there is admitance to wrongs, and there is variety. Debbie, thank you for appreciating my lack of reason for not liking the books. :)
Elena (Scarstar of Arrowclan) wrote: "J.K. Rowling killed almost everyone in the last book!"exactly why it's not child appropriate.

Elena (Scarstar of Arrowclan) wrote: "J.K. Rowling killed almost everyone in the last book!"SHE HAS HER REASONS!
Siyana wrote: "Elena (Scarstar of Arrowclan) wrote: "J.K. Rowling killed almost everyone in the last book!"exactly why it's not child appropriate."
YES IT IS! I KNOW A SECOND GRADER WHO READ THEM. She didn't describe it!
Siyana wrote: "Elena (Scarstar of fireclan) wrote: "yeah, if you hate a book, thee's no reason to start a discussion on it! I've read the first book, I can't say I hated it, because I like magic and stuff like t..."I love the Warriors series!!
Arti wrote: "Elena (Scarstar of Arrowclan) wrote: "Siana, I love making up my own clans, I started a discussion on warriors. WARRIORS ROCKS!!!"YES"
I love Warriors!! I think my favorite character is Jayfeather......
Elena (Scarstar of Arrowclan) wrote: "Siana, I love making up my own clans, I started a discussion on warriors. WARRIORS ROCKS!!!"So do I!! I've written lots of fanfictions......
Arti wrote: "Kaleigh wrote: ":) I am sooooo lucky. Do you know this author, Shannon Hale? I have her autograph, a picture of me and her together, and I met her personally!"who's that?"
She wrote the Princess Academy. She's really good! I haven't read ALOT of her books, but the ones I did read were good!
lol at people complaining about how scary is HP.I have read Dracula when i was 6 and was growing up on brutal folk fairy tales of my country...and never needed friggin therapy in my life. You can´t treat little kids like total idiots and just show them Teletubbies to shield them from real world. This world is not just nice and pretty...It´s like Americans are censuring Japanese anime because it´s too brutal for their kids, boohoo. And guess who is having higher crime rate...Harry Potter is fantastic book for everyone...kids,teens,adults,old people.
The series is something I never really thought I would get into. I started reading them one summer when I was home from college, borrowing my younger sister's copy of the first one. The next week I was on to the next book and, from there, couldn't put them down. The series unexpectedly drew me in. I'm sure they're not everybody's style, but I've enjoyed every one of them.
it's not frightening, it's simply stupid. and there's a reason the movies are pg-13 and lot's parents have issues with that. it's not for little kids.
My best friend is going to see it tomorrow with one of the guys I hate the most it is possible to hate a person. I seriously detest that boy WAP (With A Passion). I don't quite care for it... My other friend's sister hates me for not liking it :D they're going to the midnight premier and their whole family loves it and so now they all hate me :D
You don't HAVE to like them, but, it would be nice. And don't HATE them just because they don't like HP.
my friend who saw it wit the guy i hate cried when snape died a lil bit and said george/fred (i forget which one)'s death was awful and not like the book.
it upset her cuz in the book fred and george always joked around and fred apparently died after telling a joke and still had his last smile on his face as he died and in the movie they just showed him dead which apparently wasn't as moving for her. I think the fact that they would take away that kind of depressing, "awwwww!" death is pretty awful.
I have an appreciation for these books, even though I have not read them all. They woke up a lot of square eyed people to the joy of reading again, and I am thankful to Harry Potter for that. Why do you find it so idiotic? Evidently you must have a reason to beyond just stating a line or two!
Saved By Grace wrote: "I can't say I hate it because I've never read it. But that is because I'm not allowed to. I don't think I would even if I was, though..."Come on... you're not allowed to because of your religion, right? Well, there's nothing evil about the heroes in this series, it's about good vs evil. Classic. There is no satanic witchcraf in the series, and if you looked at stuff like Wicca with an open mind, witchcraft isn't bad in the first place. :/
As for hating Harry Potter... give me a good reason not to like it. No point at all? Have you even read the whole series?
Kjanela wrote: "I forgot to mention, looking at the book I see some grey characters how about Filch, he isn't a good guy and he isn't a bad guy, he is just misunderstood and alot of the times he just wants someone..."Don't forget Snape! He's very byronic. :3
Ginny wrote: "I just finished entering my review and will repost it below. I think it says it all for me. It was hard for me to insist on keeping an open mind when everyone at church (and even my husband) want..."Why is it "drivel" to you? You judged it on the first 50 pages! As someone who has seen child abuse, I found Harry's ordeal with the Dursleys as endearing, and rather harrowing. I was also entertianed by it, J.K Rowling has a talent for writing pleasently despicable characters.
Or were you offended by the use of witchcraft? If you're just another religious nutball who's into burning harmless children's books, you're not worth my time.
How can someone HATE Harry Potter,,, It is about overcoming fears and having courage to fight in what's right. So when you say Harry Potter is stupid obviously you are a lonely person who just can't stand up for themselves. In my opinion, Harry Potter is one of the best things that has ever happened to this world. Please think before you post an immature comment.

Yeah, my dad did this report on publishing books money scales and every time a Harry Potter book came out there money went high! Here: (look at it sideways).

When it spiked up high like that it means that an HP book came out.

The books?
If the character, well we can’t all like everyone. But he’s from the same mould that gave us a whole host of flawed heroes that tried to..."
Point for Skywalker and Tolkien!
I don't think everybody who reads it is an idiot. they may read it and think it was horrible, they may read it because to make sure it is as horrible as they think, they may be your closest friend and you don't even know it, they may be stuck in the bottom of a very, very, very, very (etc, etc) deep hole with no entertainment except for the harry potter series.
anyway, when I first entered this page I thought it was The CHARACTER you where talking about. I don't like the character very much. I mean he sounds nice, but there are just certain things about him that tick me off. like he seems to be a little bit of a show off. He seems to think he is better than everybody else (you can't read it, but you get the notion)... I can't remember the rest, but when I do, I'll add them. :)

You don't like? Don't read it, and get over it. I love the books, but I'm not going to judge people for not liking them. But for the love of God, STOP getting all uptight just because children read them. Do you have any idea how refreshing it is to know that children are reading at all? Kids hate reading. I have friends who only read Harry Potter, and it's a blessing to know that these books are always there for children to enjoy, and that they sometimes are what convince children to start reading on a regular basis.
Censorship is WRONG. These books should not be burned or banned. It's WRONG. And you know what? Yeah, the later books don't over any sugar coatings or gentle ways of revealing harsh realities in the world. They're dark and people die, that's life. But Harry Potter teachers children lessons, that life can be dark and scary and people close to you could leave you. And the most important lessons of all: Death is an inevitable part of life, but love will always conquer death and love is the most important thing of all.
So how about, instead of taking these books away from children and letting them resort to watching mindless shows like Jersey Shore and whatever other crap is on tv these days, let them just read a damn book?

After a nine-year-old kid reads the last book, I would think he/she would have to. I'm a slight fan of Stephen king, I wouldn't consider myself easily afraid. But an 9 year old checking under the bed for monsters? TRY saying he/she wouldn't be freaked out. I DARE you.
